News Man fatally shoots himself at my local range

Local range where I recently started shooting for the first time ever. I’m still learning.

Guessing he had the barrel pointed at himself while his finger was on the trigger? Is there any other way this could have happened?

M16A4 clone. To rattlecan or to not rattlecan?

Pictured in post is my m16 clone alongside a couple other guns of mine that I painted in theme of American vipers (copperhead and timber rattler). Very tempted to try a western diamondback pattern on my A4 but I'm hesitant since I can't decide whether it's heresy or not. What are yalls thoughts?

Question Can’t make a decision on pistol coating…

My first plan was to sand the dull matte black cerakote off and reblue it in a traditional shiny steal dark blue/trans black. But after seeing the distressed look of this now raw looking steel, I’m kind of stumped. I genuinely have always wanted a stainless steel/chrome 1911, and I’ve always wanted a used beat up no finish left 1911 as well. The bluing I’m going to do is actually going to “soak” into the outer most of the steel. It’s not just going to be a coating like cerakote. It’s traditional and will actually affect the metal. Not cover the metal. So sanding it again will be freaking hell. It already took me about 2 hours to do the easy part of the half curve, half flat slide. The frame is going to suck. Idk. Thinking about just leaving it bare on the slide and frame for a few days to see how I dig it. Thoughts? The pictures don’t do this thing justice. It looks so much better in person. It actually looks like rough natural wear from the surface areas with a lot of handling and abuse friction and no wear at all in the hard to reach places. Like around the sights and the tighter grooves and the textured steel on the sides of the slide where the rear sight is.

Question Canik sfx rival opinions

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’m usually a Glock, Sig guy. And nearly almost all my guns are short barrels. I was looking at getting into some competitions just for fun and was looking for a longer barrel and good trigger. I had someone recommend the Canik Rival.

Anybody have experience with Rival? What are your thoughts?

Informative display on development of the m7 rifle grenade launcher for the m1 garand rifle from one of our prior arms collector shows. The old army education posters are pretty cool.

Our members have some neat stuff they present at our annual show up in Eagan Mn.

I recently shared this on r/milsurp but thought it may be of interest here too guessing maybe some garand owners.

New pistol

Just got passed down a pistol from my Gpa’s collection after he passed. It’s a .38 but it doesn’t give off any info on the gun. The only things printed on it is the number 1007 on the break and cylinder(part numbers?). It came in an old Brauer Manufacturing case with “U 12” cut into it. Anyone have any ideas on what this is or how one could go about getting info on it?

Best way to clean the outside of this 1911?

It's almost stainless steel like. It's my dad's now that my uncle died a while back and I was looking to bring it back to its original shine. What product do you think would best clean it up? I use Mother's metal polish for feeding ramps, do you think that same stuff would help or do harm?

old 410 identification

Not sure if this subreddit is in appropriate to post this, if so my apologies. I was passed down this 410 by some distant family. It was my late grandfather’s gun, passed away in a train wreck when my mother was two years old. I’d never get rid of it but I’d love to figure out what in the world this gun is. I’d like to eventually get it restored, never shot it and not sure if I’m going to try. Could be savage arms??

Help! First 10mm handgun suggestions !

Upvotes

I have been carrying my FN Reflex 9mm as my EDC, and I already have a 5.56 rifle and a 12-gauge bullpup. Now, I want to get a second selection for a handgun/carry option in a stronger caliber, specifically 10mm, in a more full-size pistol to handle the recoil! My two main options as of now would be the Glock 20 for its aftermarket capabilities, reliability, and decent price tag, or the FN 510 Tactical for its ergonomics, 22+1 magazine, and sights! Glocks, in general (besides the 43X), do not fit my hands well; they feel too blocky and clunky for my liking. Although there are more aftermarket upgrades and parts available, I feel as though some would be necessary for me to carry it comfortably. In contrast, the FN 510 Tactical would be exactly what I want straight out of the box and fits much better in my hands. However, it has much less aftermarket capability and a price tag that doubles the Glock 20! I need feedback on some other major differences or opinions about these options, or suggestions for other full-size 10mm options!

I just atte ted the new years celebration in El Paso, Texas in a public space where I concealed my Springfield XDS .45. Someone saw the imprint and lost their shit and called the police. I was then detailed and questioned even after I presented my ID and Conceal Carry License. My friend was detained just for being with me. Since when have we detailed citizens for exercising their 2nd amendment rights and cause someone feels uncomfortable?

This is the stamp on the bottom of the cartridge. I was told it is a war trophy from WW1.
