Sub Rules AKA I can't see the sidebar

[TAG] questions with your state
When asking a question, add a state tag to the title, as the answers can vary a lot. ie:

[VIC] How do I get a licence?

or

[NSW] What does military appearance mean?

If you "don't like reading"
You should try YouTube, or something else not inherently involving reading.

Other that site wide rules, there's a lot of leeway given here.

Selling anything firearm related
Relevant site wide rules include the prohibition against selling/advertising/trading/whatever anything firearm related.
Don't make me delete your post to protect this sub.

As /u/ramathaham said:

Any post selling firearms or ammunition will be removed, people who post multiple times may be temp banned or more if they are flogs about it.

Note this also applies to things like scopes because I am too lazy to look up the rules on what we can do so it is easier to make it a blanket rule.

Whilst not a rule per se, if you are here only to promote your business you will have a bad time.

Community Update: Refer to sub rules before posting.

Hi cobbers,

We've got a lot of new members and it's great to see, however there's been a spate posts and comments that are either in breach of Reddit's Terms of Service, or the very few guidelines we have here.

Please refer to the community info before posting.

NO SALES POSTS

Reddit's content policy on transactions involving firearms, ammunition and weapons means this is strictly verboten. Posts like "how much do you think a Howa 1500 in .308, safe queen, handling marks only, is worth" will be removed the same as it's a grey area we don't want to play with.

ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

Whether you're a certified badass, a confused teenager, or a keyboard warrior extraordinaire, posts and comments promoting illegal activity is not what we want this sub associated with.

THE RULE

Try not to be a dick.

Customs denied pistol holster

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hey all,

I recently placed an order for a pistol holster from the US. Just a simple, plastic holster. I did a little research beforehand and found nobody has had issues importing them. Unfortunately I received this email today and I'm dumbfounded as to why customs would deny it. What would you do going forward?

Legislation- Queensland Legality of Snap Caps

Thinking about buying some Snap Caps for a few firearms that my family members own. Was wondering whether or not I needed a license to purchase them or if I could just walk in and buy them off the shelf.

Further, what exactly is the legality behind Snap Caps? Are the treated the same as live munitions or are the classified under something else?

Regards, A firearms newbie.

Legislation- New South Wales safe installation services

What’s a company/business/service, I can contact in regard to installing a firearm safe?

I could install it myself, however, the second storey room mirror wardrobe, I would like to install it in would require drilling studs into the wall and floor. And I’d probably mess something up. Also the safe is 80 kilos so moving it is also annoying, can hire those fridge trolleys from Bunnings to move it around though.

Switch Barrels any good?

Hey blokes;

I bought an AI AT second hand and it has a quick unscrew barrel so you can change the barrel. I have a 26 inch long 308 barrel on it now, but I got recommended to get a 6.5 creedmore barrel for better long range shooting.

I like the idea of bouncing between the 2 barrels. I found 308 cheaper for ADI ammo so good for practice but 6.5 is more expensive but better for long range.

Do I need to rezero when I swap between the 2 or is it going to be the same impact point between the barrels?

It looks easy to swap barrel on the AT from videos I seen but can it be done by a normal dude or should it be done by a gunsmith?

Thanks

Hi all, does anyone know whether it’s ok to sell chassis via Marketplace or similar, or should this be done through a store or SSAA? I’ve had a google search but can’t find anything. QLD based.

Firearms Query RMR Optic On Shotgun?

Wanted to share thoughts after mounting a handgun RMR to a 1913 shotgun rail and ask if anyone else had any experience or points to add?

My old sight was large and heavy adding to an already bulky 7.7lb + attachments so binned it a while ago. An RMR with a 1913 adapter was a lighter, smaller option that does the same thing as heavier and bulkier sights like EOTech so I made the purchase to see what it was like. My only worry was that the sight would interfere with the ability to use the flip up BUIS by not lining up correctly.

It arrived, I mounted her up and I've had conflicting thoughts since. It's definitely smaller and lighter, looks clean. Then the moment of truth, we flipped up the BUIS and they don't line up as suspected, however the rear sight circle isn't blocked by the frame of the RMR which was my biggest worry. Rather, the BUIS are usable with the reflex mounted but sit above the dot sight optic completely.

Initially I saw it as a draw back and wanted to swap it for a larger sight then I realised there could be an advantage to the sights sitting above glass. By not having to look through when using BUIS you reduce any potential glare meaning if your battery dies at night you won't be struggling to see at times, if anyone has had to use BUIS through glass at night you might know what I mean. I do know any good optic will be designed to reduce this but not having to worry about it at all is nice and you're able to use BUIS in the dark with nothing "in the way" if the battery goes out. When the bat is good you have to run it with just the single aiming point reference and BUIS folded down so it's very much a trade off, your accuracy is reduced slightly when compared to a setup with three references in exchange for less weight and a setup that covers additional lighting conditions.

Would I recommend this for a .308, .223 or even a .22? Never. Even for this it's debatable. For anything even remotely built for long distance accuracy I would stick to a larger optic/magnifier and BUIS that see through the glass at all times so that the highest number of aiming reference points are utilised for maximum accuracy. But for a pistol it's a no brainer or a shrub gun that doesn't value distance as much that could possibly get away with a single aiming point reference, it's an easy way to reduce weight as long as the rear sight optic isn't obstructed by the RMR frame.

Have you tried a single aim point yourself? Would you not recommend this, and if so why not? What are the potential pros and cons?

Another bloody PTA question 338LM PTA QLD

Any primary producers in QLD had trouble getting a PTA for 338LM approved in recent months? Recently submitted supporting docs and awaiting a response. Any insights in regards to the "It's legal but we don't want you to have it" that's becoming ever so common?

Newbie - snap cap storage

Can someone shed some light on the storage requirements for snap caps or inert ammo used for dry firing or training? The stuff I'm talking about is what you can buy on eBay or online or even the home made stuff where you remove the primer, fill with hot glue and put a brass screw head in where the primer was? I've sent a message to vicpol but it's the holiday period and they probably have no one on.

Any help.wpuld.be appreciated as I believe there aren't any storage requirements since a licemse is t required to buy it. Cheers

Legislation- South Australia [SA] Are there any restrictions on calibre-changing rifles (ie: CZ457)?

Hi all,

I've heard good things about the 457, and I'm getting tempted, but I am unsure about how one of the rifles main selling points (the swappable calibres) aligns with Australias laws and paperwork. Anything special i'd need to do in SA if I got one and wanted to change the barrel?

Also, is there any trick to doing the swaps or are they kinda just 'screw in'?

Identification on Old Omark

Hey guys, I posted the other day on the Omark and have since bought it, now just waiting for PTA (QLD). So I have been told that this Omark .44 has had the bench rest competition fit out. Could anyone identify the Stock and Barrel? It’s been rebarrelled in 6.5x55. I got told that the barrel could be a Swan Barrel. The other thing is if anyone knows what the particular rail it has on the underside of the forestock? The guy at the store also tested the trigger and it’s a 10ounce trigger pull. Very different from what I’m used to. Thanks in advance guys!

Budget friendly steel targets

Hi all,

Wondering where everyone is getting their steel targets for centerfires from? Something that’s not going to break the bank but also can stand up to a .308?

Thanks

Newbie (VIC)

Hi guys. New as can be, in regional VIC and applying for hand gun as well as rifle etc. I have the hunting side organised, but wondering if pistols are covered under the hunting reason or I need to be using it for sport? There's a lot of info online but it's convoluted at best. Been a bit of a mind fuck tbh. As I said, completely new to the whole thing, literally any advice big or small will be helpful at this stage. Thanks.

Hi All,

Happy New Year!!

Waiting for my licence, so doing some researching online. NRL22/PRS Rimfire have caught my attention and interest. Would any of these rifles have a distinct advantage over the other or can I get any one of them to start shooting base/production class with and build up to open class later down the line?

  1. Tikka T1X MTR

  2. CZ 457 MTR

  3. CZ 457 Varmint

Cheers!

Light rust in barrel

Thumbnail gallery
18 Upvotes

I have winchester 94 30-30. About 6 months old. Last used 2 months ago. Cleaned and oiled (maybe not enough) after used. Noticed today some slight rust in the barrel. Should I be worried? My other two rifles are stainless steel so haven't had to deal with this and not sure if it's normal?

Legislation- New South Wales Waiting period for a high-calibre pistol PTA?

If I already have rimfire and centrefire pistols, do I need to wait a mandatory 28 day waiting period for my first high calibre pistol? I haven't got my high-cal permit yet (application in progress), just trying to plan ahead.

I am unsure if a high calibre pistol counts as a "same type of firearm as one already registered to you".

Intro build for longish range precision

Anyone got any pointers as tow here to start for a build for an into gun for longer range precision shooting? Im wanting to get a barrelled action, chassis and scope. Only going to be starting out I that type of shooting so hoping to keep the cost down for starters and then expand over time. I'm hoping to keep the cost under $2k for starters. I'm having trouble finding barrelled actions on the big online qld firearms shop websites such as the barn and cleavers. I've got a savage 110 in 308 I could potentially throw in a chassis but tossing up a different cal that may be better for longer range. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Q about non licence shooters

Hi guys i am licensed and i own a 12ga ou I go clay shooting in werribee usually. i want to go eagle park SSAA with my friends who aren’t licensed. As someone told me that they will be able to shoot there because there are gun marshals there. Is this true? Can they shoot clays from my gun? is there anything extra they’ll need. Any input would be helpful as SSAA eagle park is closed till friday!
