Legal Question About Rifle Purchase Age Limit (21+?)
I saw a YouTube video recently that mentioned it’s now 21 or older to purchase a rifle, and it got me thinking. Doesn’t that kind of restriction violate federal law? I thought this sort of thing was blocked by a federal judge not too long ago.
I’m a bit confused and wanted to ask here since you all probably know more about the legal side of this. Has anything changed recently, or is this just misinformation?
Also, does anyone know the current standing of the law, or if any groups or individuals are doing something about it? It seems like there’s a lot of mixed information out there, and I’m trying to get a clear picture of what’s actually going on.
Thanks in advance!

General Question Gun store shipping question.
So I'm curious why when I go online to possibly make a purchase and it says "Ships from wharehouse" why aren't these warehouses in Colorado? I recently found out that something i may have got on a local gun store website was out of stock but shipped from a warehouse in Shreveport LA. Is it like this for all the gun shops in colorado?

Legal Do I notify CBI of restitution or is that supposed to be handled automatically?
I had my firearm rights restored this past June in Virginia prior to moving to CO. Just received a denial for purchase today and wondering if my assumption that it would show up as restored in NICS was incorrect.

General Question Beretta 80X Cheetah Rental?
Anyone know of any stores/ranges in the Denver metro that have a Beretta 80X Cheetah available to rent? My wife loves shooting my 92 and will be getting her CCW soon. She picked up one of the Cheetahs today at the Salida gun shop and liked the feel, but unfortunately they don’t currently have one she could actually shoot.
I’ll try calling around if this doesn’t pan out, but figured I’d ask the community first. Thanks in advance for any tips!
Edit: I have no idea what I was expecting, asking the most artistic group of hobbyists in existence for a simple piece of information

I'm located in Southern Jeffco near Littleton/Evergreen.
Any leagues you recommend for beginners in the area?
Mostly shoot full size Canik SFX pro or Glock 45 and soon a G34.5 But also interested in compact.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what to look for?
Thanks folks. Merry Christmas 🎁 ⛄

General Question Moving to Colorado or Reconsider?
Hi everyone, I am currently in school and have plans to either move to the southeast/Texas or Colorado after school. I am a very conservative person and love the 2nd amendment. I am just curious if you guys would recommend to live in Colorado with the risk of eventually having an AWB. I am from Illinois so I know how this stuff goes. We have extremely strict gun laws and slowly each year our gun laws have gotten worse (magazine capacity limits, state firearm registry, etc.). Illinois recently banned assault weapons, which is ABSOLUTELY terrifying to me. Do you think Colorado will move forward as a pro 2nd amendment state or should I consider different states in the southeast to move to?

General Question Gun-friendly counties north of Denver
Hi everyone, I am planning on moving to Colorado this upcoming summer. I am originally from Texas and a CCW holder (LTC in Texas). I have flexibility in terms of travel distance as my job will be in Lafayette and not in Denver. What surrounding counties would be the best to live in that:
- Are more gun friendly.
- Easier/faster to apply for a CCW permit.
I am more interested in staying north/north east of Denver as I don't want to deal as much with the city traffic in the case of commuting from the south. Thanks!

General Question Help finding free land
Im a late 20’s guy who moved here without knowing anyone and found freinds at work in the city. As you guessed even the people that grew up here are anti gun and have no clue about open space laws. I’ve tried calling the state and reaching out to government entities to get clarification where i can set up targets and go shoot. I also ride dirt bikes and have a 4wd truck. Surprise, they have given me no definitive answer and seem to not even know that such places exist. What do i need to do to find open space where i can shoot. Plus if i can be on a dirt bike too. In Nevada/ california we call it BLM land if that helps at all.

Legal Firearm rights after deferred judgement / 2A lawyer recommendations
I'm waiting to hear back from a criminal defense attorney friend who's on vacation atm (he said he wasn't sure and would have to do some research, which isn't exactly encouraging), but the TL;DR is that I'm curious if anyone has experience being approved/denied on a 4473 after completing a felony deferred judgement (DJ), or has recommendations for a good CO lawyer that specializes in gun rights.
I completed a DJ earlier this year for felony 2nd degree assault (I had a pretty strong self-defense case and even if I didn't, the severity of the charge was absurd. I took the deal because I had too much to lose and clearly the DA knew that.) Anyway... at the completion of the DJ the plea was withdrawn, charges were dismissed, and my arrest/court records were sealed. They are explicitly called "non-conviction" records in the sealing order.
I was led to believe by my original lawyer that all of my rights, including specifically gun/hunting rights, would be restored upon completion, but it seems like the rules are actually a little more ambiguous than that. According to the CO public defenders office:
"a deferred judgment and sentence, pursuant to section 18-1.3-102, is a prior conviction” resulting in the loss of firearms rights. “Although the law is unsettled, this appears to be true even if the deferred judgment and sentence is successfully completed"
I looked into their citations for that claim, and IMO the argument isn't very strong. They cite a criminal proceedings statute that a court-accepted guilty plea acts as a conviction for the offense, but it's not at all clear that a plea could or would be considered "accepted" after it's been withdrawn. They also cite a court ruling that completing a DJ for a sex crime doesn't entitle you to seal your records, and another ruling that a conviction you are in the process of appealing still counts as a "prior conviction" for the purposes of firearm possession.
Leaving aside how ridiculous it is that there'd be any ambiguity about this, I can't find any case where a completed DJ counted as a "prior conviction" with respect to firearm possession (granted, I'm not a lawyer). There are also some legal advice Q&A threads out there about similar situations where CO lawyers suggest if the plea was withdrawn and charges were dropped, then I should legally be able to purchase firearms. But many of those answers are pretty old, and the details/charges are different.
AFAICT I have a blanket right to pretend I have no criminal records, so I should at least be able to submit a 4473 without disclosing anything, but I have no idea whether I will be denied or not since law enforcement, government agencies, etc. can still see the records. This makes me nervous.
Curious to hear about any first/second/third-hand experiences, and to get some recommendations for a good 2A lawyer to talk to and potentially use for any motions necessary to clarify or restore my rights.

General Question Gunsmith recommendations with machinegun / MAC experience?
I need to have some work done on my transferable MAC (specifically, I need an upgraded feed ramp welded in). With it being a relatively valuable firearm, I'd obviously prefer to go to someone who knows their way around MACs. Can anyone recommend someone they'd trust for this sort of thing? TIA.
I am in the Denver area.

General Question Looking for places to shoot on public land near Colorado Springs
I've heard of the turkey tracks north of WP, but don't know of anything else. I've gone to magnum a few times, but I really want to try other places. Especially more outdoor shooting areas. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd be greatly appreciative.
For the record, I try to be responsible by always firing into a good back stop, I don't fire at trees & I always pick up my brass and always try to leave the place cleaner than how I left it (words to live by).

General Question Free ranges
I just moved here and I’m looking for free ranges to shoot. Ideally something that can go up to 300 yards at least. I’ve come to understand people gate keep their spots because of people not respecting the land. Any help would be appreciated. I moved here alone and the BLM maps get a little confusing for me. Thanks!

Non Local News Colorado Could See Major Legal Push Against AWB
If the upcoming assault weapons ban (AWB) moves forward in Colorado, expect the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) to potentially step in. Known for its aggressive legal victories, FPC could bring some much-needed muscle to the fight, helping push back against these restrictive measures. A solid legal challenge here might just be what the state needs to turn the tide on anti-gun legislation.
To make an impact, Colorado gun owners must rally support. Boosting visibility on social platforms and chipping in a bit of support could go a long way in making sure FPC gets involved. They’ve got the experience and resources to turn the tables in court and help protect Second Amendment rights for Coloradans. The time to act is now.

General Question Shooting Ranges
Hey everybody, I had a question. I was wondering if I can shoot on public ranges at 18 years old. I usually go with my dad or grandpa but no one can go up for a bit and I leave for work over in California soon so I wanted to shoot before I leave. I have some guns I haven't shot yet, I heard about the new law where I can't buy firearms under 21 years old. So I was wondering if I can still shoot at a range by myself with the guns I bought before the law change and the guns that have been gifted to me. I plan on going to Harris park because it's been a long time since I've been. Thanks everybody and merry Christmas.

General Question Help getting started (zero experience with firearms)
Hello everyone! I was raised in a very anti-firearm household in Boulder for all of my childhood, so I have zero experience with anything pertaining to guns. Like at all.
With the way things are going nowadays (no I am not making this political at all), I feel like I’d feel much more secure in general with a small firearm either for my car or for my bedroom.
Does anyone have any recommendations for steps to take on learning about guns/what do I need to make sure I am both safe physically AND (importantly) legally?
Thank you!
General Question Local Shops…
So I’ve been kinda getting back into target shooting after probably a decade or more since my last firearm or ammo purchase. I’ve been to 4 or more local shops for various odds and ends and all but one have left me leaving with a wtf feeling.
When did it become normal for gun shops to charge a credit card fee? I’ve put down payments on cars on card, bought whole motorcycles with a card, and otherwise gone through the bulk of my life using credit cards. Outside of firearm dealers, I can’t think of another time where completely separate business charge a card fee for everything.
Bristlecone specifically has me irritated. Went by months ago asking about suppressors. Left with their guide that indicated a $25 fee to use the silencer shop kiosk. Despite SS specifically advertising no hidden or additional fees. I’ve since bought two suppressors via SS and a different dealer with no surprise fees. Then today I was in the area and wanted to buy some 124gr 9mm ammo to break my mp5 clone in. They had brazer brass behind the counter but when I tried to buy it they said something about a delivery issue and it wasn’t actually for sale. I was able to buy a couple different boxes of 9mm but wtf? Also for a giant store footprint they have virtually no stock of anything.
Also, why do only a handful of shops advertise their inventory online? I’d love to buy local but I’m not going to make 20 phone calls to find something the online folks readily advertise.
Also also, does nobody carry decent ammo in stock? Went to a local range a couple weeks ago and they had exactly two boxes of 9mm available for the rental guns. Went back yesterday with my own gun/ammo and on the way out went to check the ammo shelf and it’s just one measly section with just a couple boxes in each common caliber. Specifically I’m trying to figure out what ammo my mp5 clone is happiest with when suppressed and it’s proving almost impossible to find any range of options locally.
Sorry for the long rant, just a middle aged dude yelling at the clouds…

General Question Denied by CBI InstaCheck —Seeking Advice on Appeals Process
Earlier this week, I was denied a firearm purchase through the CBI InstaCheck system. I have no criminal history and no unpaid tolls or tickets. In 2024 alone, I’ve successfully purchased three firearms in Colorado, each without any issues during the background check process.
I have a fairly common name, so I wonder if this might be a case of mistaken identity. However, I included my SSN on the 4473 form, which I thought would help avoid such confusion. Does the CBI InstaCheck use the data on the 4473 or is their background check simply based on my driver's license info?
Has anyone else experienced an erroneous InstaCheck denial? How long did your appeal process take? During the appeal, were you provided with the reason for the denial? I’ve read that the CBI can’t disclose the reason for a denial over the phone, but is there another way to find out why I was denied, or do I have to wait for the appeal to process?
It feels unreasonable to be expected to appeal without even knowing the specific reason for the denial. Any insights or advice would be appreciated!

Legal Jeffco sheriff (D) is anti-2A
Big shoutout to Jeffco Sheriff for issuing CHPs on the 90th day, the maximum allowed. Walking around Denver metro without a way to defend yourself for 3 months sucks, because laws are only enforced on law abiding people, go figure. If anyone wants to start a class action lawsuit on her for deliberately dragging her feet on permits, I'm in.
