Can I purchase an firearm for self defense as an F1 Visa holder if I've lived in Florida for 7+ months and with a driver's license? If not, what can I do?

Asking this on behalf of my dad since he doesn't know how to use reddit.

Tommy Lazaro shot

There are a lot of articles about a quarterback named Tommy Lazaro killed in “hunting accident “ on Eglin Air Force Base.

It looks like all the articles are based off one news feed as they all use the same words.

The story is that he was helping a friend with car trouble on the side of a road on the base. It says a hunter on the shooting range hit him with a stray bullet. Authorities call it a hunting accident.

Anybody care to explain how hitting someone while shooting at a range is not a crime of negligent homicide? Even if it were a hunter in the field, hitting someone on a road is also an act of criminal negligence as hunters should not be shooting at or over roads.

What says the hive mind? Anyone have any more information?

Private Class Recommendations (USPSA/Pistol)

Hey guys. Im looking to get started with USPSA and have a couple matches coming up. Im located in Plantation and my go to outdoor range is Homestead Training Center. Any recommendations on high level guys to take a private pistol class from? Bonus if they are well versed in USPSA. Im looking for more competition orientated and not self defense.

I am traveling to Montana via plane and would like to bring 2 pistols. I’ve read a lot about it but want to make sure I do the process correct… what are the exact steps to fly with 2 handguns.

Exactly what the title said. And can I put both pistols in the same case?

Tampa NFA transfers

Anybody ever used Coles gun shop for a suppressor transfer? I’m open to other suggestions. Seems like most recommended on my last post are either shut down or won’t even answer the phone. This will be my first can so I’m willing to pay a little extra to use someone that goes to SS kiosk so it’s straight forward and easy on me cause to be honest, I have zero idea what I’m doing. I’d like to keep the transfer fee around the norm ($100) or lower.

Looking to pawn a gun, what's this nonsense?

I'm looking to pawn a gun for a little extra cash until I get my bonus. I was checking out a website from a local pawn shop and this was on their website as a requirement.

We'll only consider or accept your firearm if it's registered. If it is unregistered or under a different name, it must be reported as stolen. Please ensure all licenses and registrations are updated before reaching out to us to avoid legal consequences.

What do they mean registered?

The “three-step rule” is a myth. Stop spreading it!

Too many times have I seen someone ask about vehicle carry and be told that Florida has a “two-step rule” or a “three-step rule.” That is just plain wrong. The standard for vehicle carry for someone 18 or older under 790.25(4) is “securely encased or otherwise not readily accessible for immediate use.” It says nothing about “steps.”

790.001(15): “Securely encased” means in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in a holster; in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case; or in a closed box or container which requires a lid or cover to be opened for access.

While I am not a lawyer, I do know how to read the law. Nowhere does the law mention anything about steps, so stop spreading the myth!

Tampa Gunsmith Rec - Flooded Winchester Model 12

My dad’s Winchester model 12 got flooded in Helene. It’s dissembled (and the metal has been coated in wd40 since it got flooded), but it needs someone who can make sure everything is good, and put it back together. Does anyone have any gunsmith recommendations in the Pinellas / Tampa area? The blueing is still in good shape, so looking for someone who has experience with vintage guns that won’t cause more damage. Thanks!

New Gun Owner

Sorry if anything I say here sounds dumb, I have 0 knowledge on this subject. My brother has a buddy who makes custom glocks. He gave my brother a few, who then gave me one as a Christmas present. Do I need to do anything to ensure I’m possessing this legally? Do I need to register this or anything? Just want to make sure I’m being responsible here. Thanks ahead of time!

Do you guys think Okeechobee Shooting Sports will be packed tomorrow? (December 26)

I'm thinking about going and taking some family members to the range. But I prefer it when there aren't too many people. Usually Thursdays are really good in that regard. But not sure if the day after Christmas (with many people taking days off) is a good idea or not.

What do you think?

Background Check Question

Back in April of 2021 I purchased several firearms from the Rural King website. Once they had all arrived at the store I went in to do my background check. It came back saying “further investigation required” or something to that effect. I sat in “Decision Pending” for over two months before finally getting an approval, at which point it had been too long and they had to resubmit the background check. It came back immediately with an approval. Now to my question…

If I go in and buy another rifle today, will the same thing happen again or will it get approved within the typical timeframe as the average person?

Thanks in advance!

New to the Delray area. Looking for a good outdoor range.

As the title says, I’m new to the delray. I’ve been to a few indoor spots; Delray shooting center and then shoot straight in west palm. Delray had great staff and did some classes there but the range is really old and dirty and all the employees wear masks. Not very comforting. Shoot straight was much much better in that regard but I still prefer outdoors if at all possible. Are there any options? I have seen online there is one more north called palm beach sport shooting center or something like that but it’s a bit far from me at over an hour drive. Is there anything else? Are there better (cleaner) indoor ranges? I am very health conscious and have small children so lead issues are a priority for me to consider. Thank you!

I’m 18. I go camping a lot with my doggo. Worried about crazy people and such. How do I go about getting a firearm. My parents would 100% gift me one for the camping thing this was actually there idea…

Preferably would want to do a slim handgun so it’s easier to carry and light because I try and pack as ultralight as possible. I know we can legally conceal or open carry if we are hunting, camping, fishing, and gun range. Also to and from I can carry it. Soooo how does this work if I’m wrong about anything can someone clarify the laws and how I can go about this legally. Also another thing as an 18 year old can I take gun classes? I’ve been shooting guns my whole life just haven’t possessed my own.

Gateway in Jax, FL- can you train on the draw with CCW?

Just moved back here and immediately hit with the reality I knew as a teenager that all the ranges within a 1hr radius kind of suck. I'm probably going to join gateway, I have been to Saltwater 6 or 7 times in the past year and no matter when I go I have to sit there and watch for 30 minutes, argue who got here first, or work in with people. It's sad that they have all that space along the strip going in (and elsewhere), they could easily double the number of pistol bays but haven't for years.

If I get an annual membership at Gateway, are they cool with letting me draw and do controlled rapid fire with handguns on the private steel bays that are around the right side when you drive in?

I have already watched their beginner videos and been a handful of times, but I just shot rifles at a bench. I don't intend on doing any heavy rifle training. I know they're pretty anal about the two seconds and are oftentimes looking to bother you, but I'm curious if that craziness extends to private those 15-25yd handgun bays around the right side. I will be more than glad to put up with that because the half dozen or so times I've been throughout the years it has been absolutely dead.

Fuck I just wish Ancient City would make a come back

AR Pistol Requirements

I recently built a 300 blk and configured it as an AR pistol but Im new to this and I just had a question I need answered. I added a pistol brace and upon inspection I noticed its adjustable. Will this be alright according to the ATF’s regulations? It doesn’t exceed their length limit and I specifically bought the Magpul BSL pistol brace. Could you asdvise please? I would hate to get in some legal trouble because their requirements aren’t clear and concise.

Repaired Firenarm return

So I recently sent a firearm of mine back to the manufacturer to have them look at, service or swap out. The customer service rep says once it's fixed it has to be shipped back to an FFL. Now I'm new to the firearm world But...if I already transferred it in my name and paid one transfer fee... do I have to.pay the fee again...I realize the have to make a living but the company should pay for it. Someone in another chat said they can ship.it to my home...which doesn't make.much sense either
