📢 Announcements PSA: Nobody Wants To Rent You Land To Shoot On

Anybody willing or able to rent you a place to shoot on has a website, a phone number, and berms. It's called a range. You are going to have to go out into the caricature of society that is firearms culture and interact with people, and pay money to shoot on private land that has been made into a gun range.

There is no public lands to recreationally shoot on, check your Texas History text book for why.

Get out. Touch grass. Maybe you'll make friends! And maybe, just maybe one of those friends you make will have a friend with land that friends get to shoot at. Literally no one lets a stranger show up on their land, let alone with guns. This is f*cking Texas.

Any recommended gunsmiths to fit a barrel?

I bought a barrel for my sig and to my surprise....It will need fitting to fit in the barrel hood (needs material taken off the back) I was going to do it myself with a file, but I would rather not LOL. Anyone have any gunsmiths in town that you would recommend?

Which Gun Show for This Weekend?

We’ve got Texas Gun Shows running in Round Rock and American Gun Shows running in Leander.

I’ve only got time for one, anyone have experience with either show? Trying to avoid a situation where beef jerky and purses outnumber actual gun show tables so I can maximize my time.

Tips for selling custom 5.45 AR at gun show?

Hi yall, I have an AR-15 chambered in 5.45 that was gifted to me awhile back, along with around 2000 rds of ammo. I have no use for it so I've tried listing it on TGT and Armslist already but no serious buyers have reached out yet. I'm hoping to find a prospective buyer at the upcoming Leander gun show on Jan 4-5, but I've never been to a gun show in my life nor am I particularly knowledgable about them, the only other gun I have is a sig pistol. Looking for tips on how I should bring in the rifle and market it to prospective buyers. Thanks much in advance.

Staccato Ranch

Just made a visit to Staccato Ranch! Picked up my first 2011, browsed the facilities, and got a membership! If anyone has any questions about the Ranch feel free to comment and I’ll answer whatever I can. If you live within 45 minutes of the facility I 100% think it’s the best range around.

Rentals at Range USA and The Range

What is the condition of the rental guns at the Range and Range USA?

I am new to guns, and I took a couple of lessons at Shady Oaks. They seem to know a lot (granted, I am a beginner). But a couple of times the instructor said (once to other staff and once to me) that for lessons he likes to primarily use his own guns because he knows for sure they will work. I can't remember the exact words, but I think he said/hinted that they do not clean the rental guns too often.

I am also looking at the range twins (I hate the fact that their names are so similar). Are they good at maintaining their rental guns?

Stores likely to have AR-10 Charging Handle in stock?

BassPro, Academy and GT's don't list anything in stock. I'll call Watermark tomorrow... any other ideas? Basic is fine... mine got delayed in the mail and it's the last piece of my build.

Edit: found. Thanks, Scattered Rock!

Help me ID this thing?

I got a small black powder boot gun as part of a lot in an auction. I am trying to answer a few questions about it, like is it worth anything, is it in fireable condition, and what balls/caps I would need.

I have looked all over. I can't find any markings on it about manufacturer, caliber, or anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Interest in a Vet led range day?

I'm curious as I know of a lot of special operations vets in the area (myself included) if there'd be any interest amongst civics in a vet led range day in this area.

I don't have anything lined up but I know many of us like sharing our skills and introducing people to good gun handling and such. There's not a lot on this side of service where we get to relive that part of our lives outside our own practice and I know as I started teaching firearms this last year as a gig that it's rewarding.

I'm sure several others I know or have contact would be interested. All Rangers and the such.

This is literally at purely conception but I thought I'd toss it out and see what happens, see if it's worth pursuing.

Competition shooting newbie

Does anyone have a recommendation for where/how to get into competition shooting? I'd like to get into 3 gun tournaments, but I am completely new to this. Most of the people I know are not very gun friendly so I would be going solo.

New Silencer Shop in CP

FM 1431, just west of CP (before Travisso)

I saw this building being worked on for quite a while, drove by in the last couple of days and there's a ginormous Silencer Shop sign on the building. Anybody have any information on what they're putting here (offices, retail, ....)?

Stores that carry muzzleloading accessories?

I'm from out of state, but I'll be visiting family in Austin all next week. I collect muzzleloaders, and I have to buy my stuff online. Given Texas is gun country, I'm wondering if there's a store where I can go look at stuff in person? Stuff like cartridge boxes, musket slings, percussion revolver holsters, gun belts, flints, cleaning kits, bayonets, repair tools, cartridge making kits, all that kinda stuff. Is there some sorta place loaded with these things where I can go browse them?

Need buds that like hunting and shooting

My core group of friends aren’t much of the outdoorsy type despite my best efforts, so I’m trying to find people or places where I can meet people that like hunting and shooting.

Little about me: 31, hunted my whole life. We have some family land in north-east Texas where we go after waterfowl, pigs and deer. Not a huge public land person but would be down to try it. As for shooting I’m getting into the pistol/carbine training more and more.

Hard to find like minded people in austin (of all places in Texas), but worth a shot.

Reliable FFL in ATX?

I’m sorry to have to ask this. But I inherited a bunch of firearms that I’m slowly offloading. Problem is, my current FFL shop really sucks about the whole “shipping” thing. Anybody have luck with a FFL shop that will ship for third party sales, i.e. easy, quick, reasonable price, and communicative?

No dudes doing it out of their houses please.

Zero Whiskey Tactical

Appreciation post. First time there - went for FFL transfer and stayed for the guns. They are LOADED with high end guns. I’m still learning and Zi was super knowledgeable and friendly. Will buy a suppressor from them next - eyeing a HUXWRX can there that’s lowest I’ve seen anywhere

Spotted a u/watermarkarms tee on the new Charlie + Micah video

Also shout out to them for installing some parts for me while I waited as I watched at least 4-6 gunsmithing pick ups or drop offs happening. Busy but still care!

Anywhere a newbie can try things out?

I'm considering getting my first two guns. Likely a handgun and a rifle. I've shot before but never owned guns. Reading online people suggest trying a few different things out before purchasing but I'm not sure the best way to do this. Is there a place where I can try out a few different models before buying?
