events Black Friday Sales and Deals

Hi all!

This is the thread to consolidate and share specials, sales, deals, &c for Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

A reminder of Rule 10: Reddit takes a very strong stance regarding transactions, and this is not a place to do that. This is a place only for links to deals that you have seen elsewhere on the internet.

mod post Rule 2

Oh, hello there.

We, the mod team, would like to call your attention to a rule update. More specifically, Rule 2 which used to read:

We're Pro-gun
We're open to discussion but this sub explicitly exists because we all believe gun ownership is a Constitutionally-protected right.

For a variety of reasons, the wording of this rule has posed numerous difficulties in ensuring posters understand, and abide by, our sub's ethos. As such, we found it pertinent to reword the aforementioned rule to be as follows:

We're Pro-gun
Firearm ownership is a right and a net positive to society.

Regulation discussions must be founded on strengthening, or preserving, this right with any proposed restrictions explicitly defined in nature and tradeoffs. While rights can have limitations, they are distinct from privileges and the two are not to be conflated.

We believe this rewording helps clarify what kind of content is welcome here and what kind should be posted elsewhere. As always, we don't expect uniformity in thought amongst our members. That in mind, this is an intentionally defined space which, like all defined spaces, has bounds that give it distinction. Generally, we believe this is why you're here so let's do our best to respect that.

That's it. Thanks for reading.

discussion First Ever Range Day

Had a great time. Ran about 100 rounds through my TTI Combat, about 30 through my lever action, and about 250 through my AR. Went with some friends from work to this really large gun club one of them is a member of. Honestly kind of tempted to sign up for the waiting list. It's $700 per year but the ranges are open 365 days a year, sun up to sun down, no ridiculous rules really other than use common sense and no green tips on the steel targets they provide. We did some 25 yard target shooting for pistols and playing with our AR's, my buddy helped me work on my stance and grip and I had some surprisingly good groupings considering I haven't shot a pistol since I was 14 (I'm 36 now). We then moved over to the 50/100 yard to see how our AR`s were zero'd and make any adjustments before we went big and hit the 200-500 yard range. Managed to plink the steel "gong" they had set up at 525 yards with my SIG M400 Tread and SIG Tango MSR 1-6x. Overall it was a great time and I was glad to get out of the house. I unfortunately suffer from some pretty serious anxiety issues, especially social anxiety, and once I got there and threw a few rounds down range I got comfortable. Everyone who was there around us was chill and courteous.

guns My first firearm purchase

My husband was telling me about this subreddit and I got pretty excited that it existed. I live in a very conservative Christian town, kinda isolating if I'm honest. So, I just wanted to share my first Firearm purchase. If anyone has any sort of tips they want to share for someone new to shootin, by all means. My folks have owned guns my whole life and have a range built in their backyard, so that's where I'll be practicing until I feel comfortable enough to go to a public range. Eventually, I'll get a CPL(I guess some places call them CWP, but in Michigan it's a CPL). This is my Beretta APX A1 Carry, PainKiller.

I want to build the most ridiculous asinine yet functional space gat. I’m thinking a pcc but am open to a AR15. What are your suggestions for this monstrosity? I’m building from nothing so I need every single piece. Thanks!

guns It's Replaced My G19.5

I've had a full size Echelon since they came out. I really appreciate the features Springfield put into that gun: milled slide, metal sights, grip modules, and the trigger. It's a really pleasant pistol to shoot and has quickly become a range favorite.

I had not found a good was to conceal the full size, so imagine my excitement when I saw that Springfield rolled out the compact version. It's awesome. Right now, The market is fairly limited on aftermarket parts and holsters. So, this one is set up like the demo/press bottles that Springfield sent out. It has a Vortex Defender ST and TLR-7x on it. It rides in a Safariland Incog X (I have since ditched the sidecar on it).

Yes, bike tube grip. Don't hate.

It has completely bumped my G19.5 out of my carry rotation. It's a much better fit for my hands and conceals like a champ. If you haven't gotten a chance to fire one, I'd recommend renting one and giving it a go!

training Vetting

This question is for people who has trained others.

For context, I live in the Biblebelt where treating gays and transpeople like humans makes you a 'radical leftist'... (I'm not. I consider myself more a libertarian.) Regardless, it's safe to say those types are not welcomed at most gun spaces here so I've had a few come to me to learn about guns. I was pretty excited that my eccentric hobby might be used for a good purpose and I probably should have thought this through more. I even started to take Firearm instructor classes so i could start doing legit classes. But then I found out one of them has attempted suicide like 3 times. I started asking questions and found that several had. I don't say this to reinforce negative stereotypes... these people are harassed constantly here, of course they're depressed or worse.

So here is my conundrum... if I teach someone how to use a firearm and they kill themselves with it I'm going to feel like shit. But, if I refuse to teach someone and they get kill in a hate crime I'm also going to feel like shit. How do you vet people? Where do you draw the line?

Edit: A lot of you are missing the point of this post. The question is how to vet and where to draw the line. Most people will not openly admit to being suicidal and it's not like I access to their medical history. I didn't know until a family member came to me and provided very person information. That particular person is no longer being taught by me but how do I find out in the future? Where do you draw the line? Actual attempts? Depression? Dysphoria?

I’ve been shooting for years but recently found out I need glasses. My prescription is too weak for contacts. I read online that they make prescription shooting glasses. Can anyone recommend any good ones?

They have a program called Help A Homie where you’re able to request medical kits that have been donated or funded by others ordering from the site!

I teach hesitant women in my community how to properly handle firearms and didn’t have any bleeding control in my kit. I reached out via email and they sent this over, at no cost, within a couple of weeks!

Read about the program here: https://www.abetterway2a.com/medical

Thanks again guys!

discussion PSA: Guns are dirty. Don’t put them where you wouldn’t put a bare ass.

Y’all should live your lives however you want. But just a reminder that guns are dirty. Solvents, oils, lead…all found on guns and all bad for your health. There have been a lot of photos recently with guns placed where I would never want them: kitchen counters, couches, food prep areas, etc. Doing it once to get that perfect photo probably won’t kill you. But keep in mind that exposure and ingestion of the chemicals (especially lead) is no bueno in the long term for humans or pets. So, I personally recommend keeping in mind where you are placing guns and washing your hands after handling them at all. Make efforts to contain and prevent the spread of contaminates especially after shooting and cleaning.

Otherwise, y’all are awesome and I love the sweet pictures of guns keep it up.

Any ideas on how to get this stuff off without ruining the nitride finish?

Not really sure how to avoid this in the future because I can’t transport my rifle without a bag in my state and I don’t feel like waiting 30 mins in the range to let it cool off

discussion I asked my parents if I could go to a gun range. It went as well as I expected.

I recently turned 18 only a few days ago. I have always been interested in firearm marksmanship. I am currently on my highschools rifle team and would say that I'm very good at it.

Just now, I asked my parents if they would be cool with me going to a gun range to shoot for a bit (| live 15 minutes away from a range that rents out guns). You would think that I just told them that I killed someone. They gave me this whole lecture about firearm and how dangerous and evil they are. They even went as far as accusing me of wanting to kill people without actually saying it.

I feel like l've completed ruined my image to my parents. I feel like they think differently of me now. I feel like they think that I'm a safety risk. FML.

question Prescription Safety Glasses

I'm looking into getting some prescription safety glasses for shooting as all I have right now are a pair made of glass. What seems like the best I've come across has been Tactical Rx, but I've also seen many recommend Zenni and a few others so I wanted to see if I could get a bit of a consensus. Thank you for your help!

guns Looking to put together my first AR-15...

And at least for my first build, not wanting to break the bank. Maybe something a bit more pricey for the next build. I'm looking at (https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-ar15-complete-classic-stealth-lower.html) and https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-mid-length-5-56-nato-1-7-nitride-timber-creek-15-m-lok-encforcer-upper-without-bcg-or-ch.html

Are these components compatible? Is there anything else (besides the magazine) needed?

Two mags on the same target with girlfriends P365 from roughly 8 yards. I found that the sig felt a little small and was hard to comfortably grip. I'm considering a p30sk for my first gun.

I have my CCW permit and I thought this would be a great way to discreetly carry in the car. I may run into issues with people thinking there are donuts in there but nobody who knows me well will be surprised to find a gun.

gear What’s a decent prism scope and magnifier combo for my AR? ≈$500

I’ve been doing some research and there’s a lot going on out there, I want a prism style scope because I have an astigmatism.

I have a Vortex Defender ST (which is awesome) on one of my pistols but the light from the dot refracts across the sight face at mid to high level brightnesses which can be distracting while trying to acquire my target.

1X Prism scope and 3X/4X magnifier combos for less than $500?

discussion Gun Ownership Question

Hello. I have a question that y'all maybe able to help me with. I am a 25 year old living in Illinois. Recently, my grandfather passed. In his possession was a few firearms that were not registered. They were nothing serious, just held on to from a different era. They were giving to my father in the will, but he has a felony and cannot be a legal gun owner, so he is passing them to me. How do I go about legally taking ownership of the firearms and can they be kept in the same house as my father if they are properly locked away, as my landlord has a zero gun tolerance policy?
