Not only can they not vote, but if they come in under this program they very likely will vote republican for decades to come. Just look at all the Cubans in Florida that have been programmed to believe that democrats are literally the same as Castro.

They also want to remove birthright citizenship. Add it together and their ideal America would have three classes:
- Billionaires - tiny percentage of the population
- H-1B - Smart, well-educated, non-citizens. Must stay employed to remain in the country and thus will accept lower wages and worse working conditions. Unable to vote. Without birthright citizenship, their children wouldn't be citizens either. A family could be here for generations and still be H-1B.
- Citizens - Poorly-educated at religious schools and the McSchools that Republicans donors would love to setup. Both funded with tax dollars. Children wouldn't be taught critical thinking.

Learners who achieve B2 Upper intermediate level can:
understand the main ideas of complex texts on concrete or abstract topics, including some technical discussions express themselves fluently and spontaneously enough to comfortably communicate with other English speakers produce clear, detailed text on many subjects and explain a complex viewpoint on a topic, including expressing advantages and disadvantages.
From that, it translates to somewhere between 4th and 8th grade reading level, depending on which definitions of reading levels you look at

6th grade reading means they can sound out most words, but will have trouble with technical language, complex sentence structure, and context in general. They will consistently only get the most surface meaning from the words they read and won’t get far with academic texts or scientific studies. In many ways it’s worse than total illiteracy because people assume reading and comprehension are different skills when they are not.

IIRC the US literacy scoring is a bit warped in relation to global scoring. When you look at international assessments, literacy rates are below the OECD average, and declining pretty fast. In addition the gap between the top and bottom is large (pointing to poor public schooling).
28% are considered functionally illiterate, 2024 numbers

When we owned a restaurant we ALWAYS closed the week of July 4th and Christmas (with full pay to all staff because we are not assholes and expected hard work) and would post a sign the week before, and on the front door. When we came back people would tell us stories of sitting on the patio next door to just watch customers ignore the sign, push on the door...glare into the dark room behind the door, read the sign, push the door once more then look around .
We always cleaned the window on that door before the vacation and laughed at the nose prints on it when returning.

While everyone was at parents for holidays, my nephew asked what the 'F' word on a cup meant
The cup had a joke that said, 'oh no, not the F word!!' and then you spin it around and it says Forty
Family is super christians and instead of my sister in law just explaining it by saying, 'oh people stress about growing old, so seeing 'forty' on your fortieth birthday can be a way of poking fun at that,' she instead says 'I don't want you knowing what the F word is'
Like, he is five, he doesn't know what the F word is and has no context for it. Now instead of just taking the power away of even wondering what that thing you don't want him to know is by just giving a context for the joke, you've literally told him that there is an F word lol.
Kids don't know jack shit, you can explain your way around any manner of things you feel aren't appropriate for them to understand yet instead of giving power to the shit you're worried about in the first place.
265
u/letstrythatagainn 3d ago
Not only that, the kid will now be curious what the actual "F" word is, and will be curious until he learns, likely from someone other than his parents now. They could've made it a non-issue, and now it's something lodged in his mind.

Reminds me of 6th grade social studies. Our world history textbook had a chapter on early human ancestors and human origins - Australopithecus, Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, origins in Africa, Neanderthals, all that jazz. I grew up in the Bible Belt so evolution wasn’t on the curriculum. Our teacher could’ve just skipped it and nobody would’ve cared. Less reading, yay! But instead she stopped to say “Chapter three conflicts with my personal beliefs, and is not required in the curriculum, so we will not be covering it in this class.” You bet that’s the only chapter I actually read.

u/AI-ArtfulInsults 3d ago edited 3d ago
Unfortunately it was her sincere belief. Creationism was very popular, and we were coming out of the late aughts, when creationism vs evolution was a popular controversy. That same year another student saw me reading a book and asked me what it was about. I said "evolution". She replied "you know that's fake right?". That was in the morning. At lunch I was surrounded by her and six other kids hounding me to argue with them about evolution. I'll never forget this one girl, who was so proud that her dad went to abortion clinics to "talk women out of it", said "If evolution is real, then when am I gonna evolve into a mermaid?"
Later in eighth grade science class we were learning about "animal adaptation" and my science teacher almost said "evolution", stopped himself, and said "adaptation" instead. He seemed to know he'd lose credibility or invite argument if he said the E word.

Telling a kid the f-word means forty would also likely lead to some hilarious and adorable stories later on.
584
u/GreenLightening5 3d ago
also it's not like it's showing anything inappropriate, kids are allowed to know what words mean, and it would be much better if they learn them from a responsible adult (which i imagine should be the parents in most cases) rather than discovering them on their own.

u/ModdessGoddess 3d ago
I have taught my toddler the correct word for his private parts etc and Ive seen some people say that that is weird. Which i dont see how? When he is old enough and if he asks me what something like this is etc I'll be honest.... some people use them for pleasure and that's okay and normal. Not a big deal
435
u/LaLaLaLink 3d ago edited 3d ago
It's also important for children to know the correct words in case someone is sexually abusing them. One reason some children are unable to tell trusted adults what is going on is because they literally don't have the words to do so.
For example, a child could say "that person hurt my bottom," which would most likely be translated to spanking. People are unlikely to immediately think anal penetration. The majority of the time, the abuser is somebody the child knows. So, when confronted, they are often given the benefit of the doubt and can say, "I won't spank them again" and nobody will ever know until the child learns the correct terms for their body parts.
133
u/ModdessGoddess 3d ago
Yeah that is another reason why I taught my 3 year old the word penis, balls and butt lol so he can tell me hopefully if something like that were to happen, but lord knows I refuse to allow it because heaven forbid if it ever does, the mother fucker that touches my kid wont live. I will gladly take a prison sentence for it. Plus when he is a little older Im going to teach him "if any one tells you not to tell me something you will know it is something you HAVE to tell me" too many pedophiles out there to leave it to chance.
93
u/exjackly 3d ago
Teach them secret vs surprise.
It is ok for somebody to plan a good surprise for you. Those can be kept secret until the appropriate time.
It is not ok for the kid to be told to keep something secret from you forever.

u/hyrule_47 3d ago

I also think parents should teach kids the real words for their genitals so there can be no mistake. Cause wtf is a biscuit.
68
u/Jules-of-Jubilee 3d ago
One of my professors works with autistic children, and one of the girls she works with was talking about how her stepdad "touched her cookie." At first my professor thought little of it, thinking it was a case of a dad eating their kid's snack, like when your dad might steal a dry from you.
That was until she heard the mother of the girl remind the girl that she had to "wipe her cookie" when going to the bathroom. It was then that it clicked that "cookie" was the nice word her family used for vagina. The stepdad is in prison now.
My professor now hates giving nice words for genitals. Vagina and penis are proper enough.

They finally figured it out when I started crying every time I peed. It would have saved me a lot of pain had they just taught me the correct words.
36
u/hyrule_47 3d ago
When I was in nursing school we were taught that we are the front line in figuring out if a child is being abused. We were told one story of a child telling multiple trusted adults that her uncle was abusing her and no one understood because the family taught her the her privates were called a “cookie” and her uncle told her it was okay because what else would you do with a cookie? Supposedly the school nurse figured it out when it occurred with pain, I think a bladder infection but I’m not sure it was too long ago. Kid was telling for months and no one was hearing her because your uncle eating your cookie sounds like a prank.

I didn't do anything differently, she just did it on her own time. Don't let parents whose kids are potty trained at 18 months tell you it's easy. Sometimes it is, but sometimes it isn't. The oldest was relatively easy, the second didn't even really need training, and the third just flat out refused.

Honestly, that's probably by design.
I'm sure any young, moderately attractive female employee at CVS has had some creepy old dude ask for "help" with "selecting the right item for my needs" only to lead her to the sex toy section.
With the pharmacy being directly in line, there are cameras and quite a few people watching that particular space, so it probably makes it safer for the employees who have to deal with that.
It also (hopefully) will prevent said old perverts from masturbating in that aisle.

We only look at it and know what it’s for because we know about sex, if a kid does know what it is, and how it’s used, they need to be taken by CPS YESTERDAY because someone is hurting that child.

These are the people who can’t be bothered to glance at the books their kid picks at the library before checking them out. They really need the world to revolve around their kids so they don’t have to.

Pharmacies are perfectly reasonable places to sell sex toys. They're sold in mainstream health shops here, as well as supermarkets and Poundland. Nobody cares at all.

I googled pound land expecting a really cool sex toy store

I assumed it was like taking someone to pound town, but even moreso!

I love this comment, not least because I've lived in the UK for so long that I forgot what that store's name suggests. 🥳

Is "Poundland" by chance the British version of "Dollar Tree"?

So long as pharmacies can sell condoms, they should be able to sell sex toys (though I cringe at the quality of a "little sucker" at $32.99...)

Not to mention most 5 years olds can’t see the top shelf and why is this pervert bringing a 5 year old down this aisle? Let me guess the pharmacy shouldn’t sell condoms either? I guarantee this 5 year old has access to the internet which is 10millions times worse than this.

I suppose they could put up a beaded curtain like at the old vhs rental mom/pop stores. Or people could just chill out and accept or perhaps even celebrate sex ✌️❤️

Pretty universally they’re on the top shelf, where no kid could really see them. And if a parent isn’t quick enough to call it medicine and move on then they shouldn’t have kids, sorry. Distracting kids is fucking easy.

I have to say that although this does seem weird to me, it doesn’t seem at all harmful.
Pharmacies have been selling condoms for a long time now, and no sane people were concerned for children’s wellbeing over that. The packaging has no explicit imagery, not text that is above the level considered acceptable for condom advertisements… so I don’t see the big deal.

These Republicans are the same ones that are the reason why in several states sex toys still have to be sold as "adult novelty sculptures" or "back massagers," because if they're called sexual products of any kind they would be illegal to sell.
The Party of Small Government and Deregulation at work.

yeah but it makes it harder to indoctrinate your girls to be needlessly ashamed of sexual pleasure if stores are unashamedly selling products for female sexual pleasure

Taking into account the reading level of the average American, can adult conservatives even read these aisle signs?

Considering the reply in the initial post misspelled "aisle", I think you may be onto something.

Hey, just in case anyone needs this info: the Hello Cale Buzzy Butt is WAY too big for an inexperienced person. Despite the packaging having fake testimonials about the person pictured now getting what anal sex is all about, you should definitely start smaller. On the Hello Cale website, they have smaller buttplug sets; they just only stock the vibrating one in pharmacies for some reason

It’s always “WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!? The innocent youths! The kids! The kids!”
Until it matters, then it’s “fuck them kids, they owe me money”

And 30 years ago when I was growing up, gas stations sold porn magazines. Society will never outgrow the 'think of the children' sexual pearl clutching.

This is an obnoxious comment and not at all some sort of "murder by words".
There is no "sexual wellness isle(sic)"
There is an aisle on which there is a sexual wellness section. And its usually right next to the feminine hygiene products as well as other basic bathroom needs.
The criteria for "murder" here is apparently very, very low.

Getting "Ratio'ed" is when person A posts something, and person B responds to it, but person B gets far more likes/upvotes/thumbs/whatever than person A did. In this case person A got 1.2k and person B got
123.8k, 100x as many.Edit: Woops. 20k likes, so still a high number.→ More replies

Imagine taking the time out of your day to take photos and post for the world to see your gripes and complaints about items being for sale that you don’t agree with, but not taking the time to tell your 5 year old that can read that “when you are an adult there are adult things that feel pleasurable , and these items help those people feel pleasure”. Be an educator like you’re supposed to be , rather than an embarrassed liar who prefers your child not know the world.

They're probably selling sex toys cause sometimes the best medicine is to just rub one out.
