Latest Arc comparisons

Hi guys. Just had an offer on the latest ARC OBSIDIAN. Being in the uk we likely get this kit well after the States so I was wondering what you guys thought of it? More so, it's a tad heavier than my surge so is it worth upgrading in all honesty?

Finally Got them On

My god this took a long time and a lot of tinkering but here they are on the copper scales with potential for tritium inserts. Though researching tritium took me down a rabbit hole here in usa I had no idea. So idk. But they are on.

The rush that caused a rush…

Back in Feb, 2024, when demand was high and availability was scarce, I learned that a retail store I’d never shopped at or even heard of, called Murdoch’s, located many states away from me, had these four left on their sales floor, priced at $34.99 each, so I hurriedly arranged by phone to buy them and have them shipped to me in Georgia. I sold two and kept two. It was a pretty thrilling experience! 🤩

My Dad gave me his Leatherman a couple of weeks ago because he could not stand to see me using a Gerber. I want to say he’s had it around 15 years, so I was pretty excited to get this.

Need advice

Hello guys, just acquired a surge, and I work in audiovisual, especially lights, so many times i need to cut short bolts and stuff like that So here is my question: Would you have a reference or a link for a metal saw that would fit on the surge ? Thank you 🙏🏼 Ps: I live in France so most of the American stuff is hard to get here

Used to think dudes posting multiple tools was ridiculous. Now here we are.

Skeletool was a daily years ago. Recently has the blade warrantied, it’s now a front door princess.

Rebars been a daily for a few months. The blade access almost made me return it, but it was super easy to get used to. Has helped out many times.

Surge is a gem. Wanted one for a decade, found this one second hand with the bit kit package for half the price of retail. Reserved for around the property, the weight isn’t as bad as they say!

Costco Skeletool Bundle

Is it normal for the two skeletools in the Costco bundle to look like this?

I have another Skeletool KBx and it doesn't look like this at all. This is the first of the variety of Leatherman tools/knives I own that have this copper colouring by the knife blade

Nut driver set?

Anybody know if there’s an aftermarket set of nut drivers up to around 13mm I can get for a Leatherman arc that adapts to the screwdriver bit holder?

Has Leatherman just raised the price for the ARC?

It's listed for $249 now on their site. Some other sites also show that price (e.g. B&H) while others still have the old price of $229. I'd say, hurry up to get it soon if you want to save a bit...

Found It! The Squirt.

I was in the process of rebuilding my EDC. Digging through my box of pouches, pocket knives and bits and re-discovered an old friend in the depths of the action packer. Exactly what I needed for my kit. Jackpot.

I am looking to buy my first leatherman and I am wondering how often there are sales, if it is worth it to wait for one and if there are ways to get discounts by signing up for promotions? (am in canada)

A little hack that not everybody knows

Lots of us know this already, so this is just for those who don’t.

If you’re using a Leatherman, or any kind of pliers type multi tool as a screwdriver, you can usually open the handle to add more torque.

Because they can flex to different positions, you can use it much the same way you would use a strong arm bar where you complete half a rotation and swivel to the other side so you get half the speed, same amount of torque, but you can get past some obstructions.

I’ve tried this with the Leatherman Arc and Sidekick. Having free swinging hinges is easier to work with in most cases. Plus you don’t get the off-centre issue where the bits want to let go of the screw because of lateral forces from tying to use the tool folded, so it’s great for Phillips and flat head screws and other types that tend to cam-out.

Edit:

For those saying it’ll put too much force on the tool and bend or break, consider the amount of force it takes to round out the screw or damage the bit, and you’ll recall having done this without my little hack, and with everyday tools that don’t come with a 25-year you break it we fix it warranty. Something will probably give before your Leatherman does. It’ll be either the bit, or the fastener. Meanwhile, you can still turn out screws faster since you’re now working without that frustrating offset.

Also, don’t reef on your tools. Use your judgement to add a reasonable amount of torque for the more stubborn fasteners. If you use your head, you won’t blame me or your tools, then you won’t be the proverbial poor craftsman.

Getting Banned

I know you can be banned from Leatherman’s website for selling Leatherman products on eBay or other platforms. Does that only account for current in production tools? If a tool is retired, can you sell that without getting banned? Thanks.

Nail clipper in the Arc mod?

Would something like this:

https://www.victorinox.com/en/Products/Swiss-Army-Knives/Personal-Care/Nail-Clipper/p/8.2050.B1

Height: 7 mm Length: 60 mm Width: 13 mm

Fit with the leatherman arc, assuming some of the tools are removed to make room?
