Not having a hospital.

u/GullibleBathroom5616 Oct 19 '24

Call RideSource. They'll get you there an hour early and leave you stranded at Riverbend.

29

u/Mayumoogy Oct 19 '24

I overheard a lady requesting a pick up from a medical appointment and they told her she would need to wait over an hour. Poor lady

18

u/GullibleBathroom5616 Oct 19 '24

My company takes both ends of the trips and I show up at the end of the pickup window so they're not so early, and give them my card to call me directly as soon as they're done. Suck it, Oregon Taxi.

5

u/HyperboleHelper Oct 19 '24

That's just how Ridesource is 99% of the time. The only time they aren't is when you try to game the system and lie about the time you need to be picked up and tell them an hour early!

1

u/Garlanth69 Oct 20 '24

I actually work for Ridesource and this is about right. We always give a pick up window and for the lady waiting an hour. That happens when you set up a will call. It can take 60 minutes from the point you call us and let us know you’re ready to get you.

2

u/HyperboleHelper Oct 20 '24

It's the same when you set up a pick up time in advance. There's an hour pick-up window.

I'm very thankful for the service and you guys that work there! I could not get to the bus by myself and my husband and I don't own a car so I need the transportation to get around town! But I am in so much pain from sitting around on waiting room chairs by the time I get home I can get back into my apartment!

11

u/L_Ardman Oct 19 '24

That’s a symptom of an incompetent City Council.

1

u/kurinbo Oct 19 '24

Did there used to be a municipal hospital?

7

u/L_Ardman Oct 19 '24

PeaceHealth used to be in town. Until the city torpedoed its renovation plans and forced it to move.

The city itself never ran a hospital. Which is a good thing cause I can’t imagine the shit show they would create.

2

u/kurinbo Oct 19 '24

How did they torpedo its renovation plans?

22

u/L_Ardman Oct 19 '24

They proposed a plan where they would build a new hospital next to the old one. This required eminent domain of about six houses. The homeowners (actually landlords) complained saying their homes were a “historic”. The city caved and refused.

Now these homes have been bulldozed to be apartment buildings, and we have no hospital .

3

u/ABCDmama Oct 20 '24

that fuckin’ sucks.

3

u/RottenSpinach1 Oct 20 '24

Uh, what happened to the people bitching about the proposed site up off Crescent Avenue?

2

u/L_Ardman Oct 20 '24 edited Oct 20 '24

I think traffic congestion made that infeasible. If the hospital had to move Sacred Heart really wanted reliable highway access. That would’ve been a shit show with ambulances stuck in traffic.

Besides, that would result in both hospitals on the north side of the river. Same predicament we’re in now.

Rich people with zero street smarts who try and get into the weed business but end up getting their money or weed stolen.

17

u/Z0ooool Oct 19 '24

lol it’s sad I can think of a guy I know who had that exact thing happen to him. Guess it’s common.

8

u/fazedncrazed Oct 19 '24

I understand a dispensary failing as a startup etc, but getting robbed? These guys arent starting legal weed businesses, are they? Which begs the question, did they really expect to make money selling weed illegally when theres a legal store every 50ft?

-1

u/burghul_crisis Oct 19 '24

You're clearly not in the industry

I’ve just met a lot of dumb people in this town. The smartest people I’ve met, are older hippies who have somehow lived in obscurity never paying taxes. The dumbest people I’ve met are people who think the weed business is easy to get into.

If anyone needs a good pedicure ask for Sig at Tippi Nail Bar 541-357-5568 I know how to deal with crazy feet and give a good massage. And if you need good acrylics ask for Rita or Jennifer at Tippi Nail Bar.

u/puppyxguts Oct 20 '24

Lol I'm actually looking for a good pedicure so thanks

u/equinox_magick Oct 19 '24

Hobos breaking into your house or smashing the window or your car to rob you. Hobos setting up camps on the sidewalk in front of your house and leaving piles of trash. Hobos accosting you while trying to walk through a public park

31

u/popjunky Oct 19 '24

That’s not the hobo code, bro. You’re talking about tweakers.

14

u/washington_jefferson Oct 19 '24

Hobos are historically, stereotypically speaking, older male drifters who carry their possessions in a sack tied to stick, and ride train cars from city to city looking for handouts. Think of the folk song “Big Rock Candy Mountain”. That’s not at all what you’ve got going on in Eugene. I know Eugenians are a bit more sensitive than Portlanders, but in Portland many of the homeless campers are known as “criddlers”. Hobo is very far off- it’s almost a term of endearment.

Sometimes homeless campers/criddlers self identify as vagabonds. But this isn’t that accurate either. MrArmenian is a drugged out homeless camper that leeches off of Eugene and a few other cities- he’s no “vagabond”.

12

u/kurinbo Oct 19 '24

Traditional definitions of hobos, tramps, and bums:

Hobos travel and are willing to work

Tramps travel but don't want to work

Bums don't travel and don't want to work

7

u/washington_jefferson Oct 19 '24

I forgot about the tramps. These traditional definitions have all changed since the advent of heroin, and even more so recently with meth and fentanyl. People who say they are tramping around might work, but they'll cut and run from their job after their first paycheck. All after telling the owner/manager that hired them that "they are there for the long run, I just need a chance!"

Anyway, I'd prefer these so-called hobos or tramps over what we have in Eugene. Because our homeless seem to stick to the city like glue. I'd prefer it if they were to move along. That's really my big hope when it comes to the homeless in Eugene and Oregon. It's why I believe in repealing the Bottle Bill and making camping bans as strict as possible. Anything to get people to move along. I don't think housing the drugged out homeless camping community is possible. I wish our politicians could separate the "housing situation" from the "homeless camping situation" when they run for office or are in office. The focus should be on building affordable housing and cleaning up the streets.

Great...♫♪Gypsies Tramps and Thieves♫♪

8

u/equinox_magick Oct 19 '24

Homeless people, who also happen to be thieves and potentially tweakers? Doesn’t roll off the tongue quite like ‘hobo’

-6

u/sillygreenfaery Oct 19 '24

hobo is a fun word and homeless people don't fcking care what you call them as long as it isn't "crazypants" they hate that

76

u/PerformerGreat Oct 19 '24

Shortness of family.doctors. I have been a oregon medical group orphan for a while now. I wish they never got bought.

29

u/NWTrailJunkie Oct 19 '24

Just found out I'm the same. This week. How did I find out I no longer had a PCP? My insurance company told me. No notification from OMG. WTF?!

12

u/SimMermaid Oct 19 '24

Same. Got dropped with a backdated notice of a month and a half at the beginning of the year while in the midst of a mental health crisis and needing to see my doctor. I needed my meds fixed, so when I tried to schedule, I was told I'm not a patient there any longer and to go elsewhere. That's when the notice was sent out finally. Then, months later, I got a certified letter delivered to my house that I had to sign for, reminding me that I needed to schedule a routine exam. 🙄 Like who in the heck decided that a $10 postage for certified mail for a supposed non patient was a good idea? United can go suck it.

Follow them....spray builders foam fills exhaust systems very well, it is on sale at Jerry's right now...super effective...

-8

u/IAMG222 Oct 20 '24 edited Oct 20 '24

Hottake and I'll probably be down-voted, if a car with a modified exhaust is waking you up, they aren't the problem. Work on your sleep routine.

Make sure you're going to bed early enough to actually get into rem sleep and so you're in a deeper state of sleep. Use background noise to help you sleep, I prefer ocean sounds or storm sounds as it's relaxing to me. Certain vitamins also help you relax and can improve sleep too. Magnesium glycinate is my main one but I also use ashwagandha gummies when I remember to buy them, but theres others too. Try quality sleep masks as well, MZOO & Manta are some higher recommended ones. Mines an MZOO side sleeper one and blocks out pretty much 100% of lights, and is comfortable, allows me to blink and isn't pressured against my face. Also have foam ear plugs in your dresser for use when needed. I can still hear my alarm with them as its close to my head, but it blocks out nearly everything else.

Point being, working on getting a good sleep routine can help cut out anything from the outside that affects out. Car noises, leaf blowers, etc.

The scene in the movie w Otis and band was filmed at the Dexter Lake Club.

The smell from the lumber mill in the Whit.

17

Grain mill

6

The grain mill I don’t mind. It’s the lumber mill off of 6th by chambers

Yeah. That’s the offender. Have to close my front door sometimes.

14

u/jkvf1026 Oct 19 '24

Roads, who the fuck built this city??

This is more of an Oregano problem than a Eugene exclusive but lack of healthcare.

-OMG is one of the biggest providers around and money talk so Medicaid walks.

-I believe Portland has the only Level one trauma center in the state and then I believe the closest hospital after Riverbend is up in Corvallis now that they closed the Eugene Hospital.

-Slocum is God, love God or God will smite you... unless you bring to the University, Daddy Phil will keep God happy.

1

u/BabyYoduhh Oct 19 '24

This city probably wasn’t expected to get so big. Then California moved here.

11

4

u/Proud_Cauliflower400 Oct 20 '24

Eugene isn't what it used to be, for better and for worse. Problems y'all got, but problems y'all have always had. Different and the same, but our problems both Eugene and Springfield seem trivial to a lot of places problems. I've seen it all in my 44-year existence. The 80's the 90's the 2000s. Eugene is better than it was in so many ways, and worse than it was in so many ways, the problem is people get stuck in those handfuls of years where it was perfect for them. They get bitter about once was and aren't any longer.

Eugene is Eugene. It's got lots of problems, depending on who's eyes are looking and where and when, I'm sure there's better places, and I'm sure there's worse places and I'm sure that they could switch places in a couple years of management and mismanagement.

We have good jobs and shit jobs and job jobs here. Some of them can end up being careers, some of them pay the bills and make someone else a lot more money.

When it rains here, it pours, even when it drizzles. When the sun is shining and it's warm, there's more activities at our choosing, and we all pay the price to exist.

I'd say fuuuccc Eugene, but like, that doesn't do any of us any good.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '24

You get like 4 varieties of restaurants: Italian, Japanese, Mexican, American.

7

u/Sortanotperfect Oct 20 '24

Other than pizza, I would say there really aren't many Italian restaurants. Way more Thai than Italian. And to your point, our Mexican restaurants are old white people bland Mexican food.

2

u/HunterWesley Oct 20 '24

There's like a dozen Thai places.

3

How's your hospital and homeless problem across the river on your high horse?

39

u/ButtsFuccington Oct 19 '24

Haven’t had to call Cahoots because of screaming meth heads or OD’s on the sidewalk out in front of my home since moving out of Eugene. Zero packages stolen. Bliss.

24

u/Guygenius138 Oct 19 '24

I've left my windows open overnight. I live directly across the street from a park. Never had my car broken into or anything stolen. Everything I need is within walking distance.

Totally sucks, I guess?

1

u/EpidonoTheFool Oct 19 '24

I wouldn’t change the way, I wouldn’t stop the decay

1

u/Guygenius138 Oct 19 '24

Every since I changed to this profile pic, it seems I get an Overkill lyric thrown at me.

1

u/EpidonoTheFool Oct 19 '24

Quite honestly you’re asking for it lol. Overkill not one I see often so I felt compelled to do so. If it was a Metallica or something more mainstream I wouldn’t of said anything

2

u/Guygenius138 Oct 19 '24

Ive been listening to the Big Four since 1986, but just started listening to Exodus, Testament and Overkill this year. How the hell did I miss these bands for this long?

3

u/EpidonoTheFool Oct 19 '24

I somehow first learned of overkill the same time I got into the big 4 of thrash. Saw the In union we stand music video on headbangers ball. They definitely don’t get noticed as much as they should I think they are touring with King Diamond right now that would be one hell of a show to see. Exodus one of my favourites although I wish they would have did another album with Paul baloff bonded by blood is one of the best thrash albums out there I think. I recently discovered Bathory within the last couple years they are black metal then Viking metal band but gotta recommend you give their hammer heart album a listen if you haven’t before.

3

u/Guygenius138 Oct 19 '24

Nice. I'm going to see Exodus in December in Portland. Can't wait!

-3

u/sillygreenfaery Oct 19 '24

In Springfield the utilities are owned by the people amd not sold to the people so my SUB bill was regularly $40-50/month EWEB sucks. My bill is like $100/month here. There were no honelyess people hanging around and I wasn't afraid to go out. Rent was more affordable and it is just so lovely there

3

u/myimpendinganeurysm Oct 19 '24

Who do you think owns EWEB?

-3

u/sillygreenfaery Oct 20 '24

A nasty board of stuffy commissioners are in charge of EWEB. What is your problem?

4

u/myimpendinganeurysm Oct 20 '24

Both SUB and EWEB are community-owned utilities operated by elected 5-member boards.

Are you okay?

0

u/sillygreenfaery Oct 20 '24

Well springfield is doing good by the people and somebody at EWEB is screwing us over. No I'm not okay, the city is taking more money than it deserves after closing the only hospital to easily access medical help while I'm having epileptic seizures.

Im so lucky i found an amazing landlord who doesn't want to lose me as a tenant, she hasnt raised my rent annually like others have but it means I'm stuck in Eugene. I won't stay here forever, Jesus Christ the homeless problem here is terrifying.

3

u/myimpendinganeurysm Oct 20 '24

EWEB is a publicly-owned non-profit with an elected and unpaid board of commissioners. Who is screwing us over, how, and for what purpose? In reality, there are a number of reasons EWEB charges more than SUB. My understanding is that the discrepancy is largely due to EWEB locking in to long-term contracts when energy prices were high, incorrectly thinking it would save money in the long run. It doesn't seem to have been anything malicious, though, just a bad bet.

Also... The city didn't shut down University District, PeaceHealth made that decision. The national housing crisis requires federal solutions.

I hope you get the help you need.

0

u/sillygreenfaery Oct 20 '24

Thank you 😊
