jiggly How would YOU solve the housing affordability crisis in Eugene?
If you ask me (and this should be nationwide as well) - It should just simply be made illegal for one person or entity to own more than a few single occupancy houses. I'm not sure why we need companies owning thousands of units and charging huge premiums to squeeze the lifeblood out of people just so they can have a roof over their heads. Part of the change in the last 50 years has been the massive accumulation of housing by private corporations in concert with mortgage lending by national banks.
Forced divestment, imho. I'd like to see the city council take some kind of bold action on this, since it's obvious that "we've tried nothin' and we're all out of ideas!" and the status quo and just talking about it ad nauseum isn't working.

jiggly This morning I was attacked by a male named Tom
This morning I was attacked by this male named Tom in the Whit. He was standing in the middle road with his harem. I tried to navigate around him, moving into the other lane, but he kept coming at me, hitting my car. Eventually, I had to turn around and just choose another street. As I did so another car came from the opposite direction and was also attacked.

jiggly Are we good here in Eugene (earthquake risk)?
Another kind poster shared this in another recent thread, and I thought I'd repost it and get feedback.
Check out the map! We are in the yellow! https://www.oregon.gov/oha/PH/HEALTHYENVIRONMENTS/DRINKINGWATER/PLANREVIEW/Documents/seismic-map.pdf
If this map is correct, for some reason Eugene is relatively safe in terms of a magnitude 9 aka "THE BIG ONE" earthquake we are all due for. Any geologists want to share info on this?
My house is post and pier built, so I was told it would "bounce" and flex in an earthquake. I did read that flat slab houses are prone to having other issues like foundational cracking.

jiggly Our water here...
Is so damn good! I just went down to San Diego for some sunshine and surfing (got to wear a 3/2mm instead of my 5/4mm I use here!), and eat good food. San Diego has some tasty places to eat, and delicious beer also. Ocean Beach had so much weed in the air it was like Eugene x1000. Great farmer's market too!
BUT, their water is kinda gross. Funky taste to it. Came back home, got a glass of water from my tap, and damn...Oregon mountains and watersheds just treat our water right. It's delicious! We are lucky here.
Like the old PBR ad..."it's the water!"

jiggly My own employer sent me a letter asking me to vote No on measure 118, and that's exactly why I'm voting YES.
I'll spare you the details for my own privacy, but my own employer sent me a letter asking me to vote No on measure 118.
This company is privately and family owned, to the tune of what's estimated to be nearly AT LEAST $1 billion in private equity, if not possibly double or triple that amount. We have no idea because they don't publish financials, but simply put, they're absolutely massive.
In fact, any company at all over $25 million is massive. Sweet Life ain't going to be affected by this, people. Anyone who owns a $25 million company (or larger) is the literal 0.1%. They can afford to part ways with 3% of their company's revenue (yes, revenue) that we the workers actually created for them. They will be fine, they will not suffer losing "only" 3% of their hoard of wealth. The full value of that 3% will not be passed on, it never is, and the "regressive tax" scaremongering is obviously fallacious. Raising the minimum wage 10% never raises inflation 10%, it's simply not possible. That's the beauty of capitalistic markets - consumers have choice.
I'm voting yes on 118. Yes, give me back at least SOME of the money that I created for your huge, wealthy company. I will be happy with a mere lick of the brass ring right now.
Business owner, listen to me: I'm struggling by not having that 3%. You'll fucking live without your 3% just fine.

jiggly I'm ready for chilled rainy days.
Bring it on. I'm over summer. I'm tired of the cold air trapping hot smoggy air in the valley. I want fewer people on the roads and in stores. I want the natural cleaning from rain to make the air smell fresh. Let's go, enough of this hot weather already. I'm ready for chilled rainy days.

Whenever I have to deal with Comcast/Xfinity I feel dirty afterward. Should I be getting vaccinated or something beforehand? I'll be glad when we have some viable options for internet.

jiggly It's kinda impressive how many projects the city is doing this year
https://www.eugene-or.gov/2558/Current-Projects
I know we like to complain on reddit about how slow cities move, but it is pretty cool to see how much is getting worked on this year. It's about as much as Portland is working on and they are almost 4x our size.

jiggly TIL The Eugene Library does NOT charge late fees...
Checked out a really good book from library, got busy, read half of it, lost it behind the couch, found it again, read it. Received email saying it was late and not able to check it out again, but wasn't done. Figured I'd pay the fees, so I finished it, and turned it in four days late.
The librarian informed me they don't charge late fees "anymore." I was in shock as my old library charged you from the get-go if it was late, and past $5.00, your account was frozen. I guess the Eugene library only charges you for a new book IF it's past 30 days late.
The library here is a gem regardless of what people say. I would have given them money if they would have accepted it. Support your local library!

jiggly Brake lights not working after doing some stereo rewiring. Any recommended auto mechanics?
Long story short - I installed a new car stereo and backup camera and part of the installation required me to strip and solder in the backup camera to a brake light on my car. That went fine, but now for some reason neither of my brake lights are working when I pump the brakes on my car.
Does anyone know a mechanic who would diagnose and/or fix this rather small and known issue on the cheaper end of things? There's not really any need for me to get anything done other than talk to someone who understands car electronics wiring and who might be able to tell me what I need to change, or do it themselves. This shouldn't be more than a $100 or so fix. I called the Stereo Store and they wanted like $800 for four hours of mechanic time which seemed like highway robbery.
Anyone have any suggestions?

jiggly Homeless broke our complex hot tub
Our hot tub was broken for a few days, and we all chalked it up to maintanence not doing their job and something else broke. That was indeed not the case.
THE CASE: A homeless man had jumped the fence, dumped soap all in it and was bathing himself in it, making it a bubble bath.

jiggly Reasonable Level 2 charger installation at home suggestions?
Just bought a new to me EV. It's great and wonderful and I love driving a spaceship. I own my home, so I want to install a level 2 charger in my garage. I checked the search bar, and it had suggestions from two years ago.
Hoping someone else has had one installed and can steer me towards a reliable, honest electrician. If you mind sharing how much it cost you, I would appreciate that too!
Many thanks!!
