Events, Activities & Sports Looking for someone to spend nye with
Hi I’m 36F and want to spend nye with someone who’s interested in seeing fireworks with me, maybe in SF. Just FYI I live in hayward and don’t have a car so if that’s an issue I understand. I just feel lonely today and want someone to have a good time with. Just wholesome fun, not sex.

Traffic, Trains & Transit NYE BART schedule only for trains leaving the city?
I went to a show in Berkeley tonight and got to North Berkeley station at 12:35 trying to get back to SF and it showed no more trains SF bound but plenty running the opposite direction. Were they only running late trains leaving the city and not returning to the city? I know it’s more common for people to be BARTing in the opposite direction but still seems they should have specified that city bound trains weren’t extended.

Scenes from the Bay Some of my favorite photos from 2024
galleryWith the end of the year approaching, I took some time to reminisce and go through my photos from 2024. It was a bittersweet year, but I’m so thankful I live in such an incredible place! It was hard to whittle this list down, but here’s my top 20. Happy New Year!

Food, Shopping & Services What is happening to the tap water?
I moved to Bay Area almost 20 years ago from a city where not drinking tap water is the norm. Tap water was great at my parents’ apartment in San Mateo and we stopped buying water bottles which we were doing out of habit.
In the past year, first my parents’, now my apartment’s tap water started to taste really unpleasant. I can’t even finish one glass of water. Is it my tastebuds or has it changed for you all, as well?

Food, Shopping & Services Do you tip the wheelchair assistance guys at SFO Airport?
I got the wheelchair assistance last week for the first time. I was not expecting the guys to wait for a tip but, since they were, I did tip them $3 because that's all I had. And the guy looked so unhappy with the amount. How much is the minimum expected tip, if you do tip? Are these folks getting paid minimum wage even though they are airport staff?

Traffic, Trains & Transit Drive carefully folks
Just witnessed an accident on Mission in Hayward when one of 3 racing cars lost control. They were going 100 easy. I narrowly avoided getting hit.
I am some others who came over thought the driver was deceased at first but thankfully he was just knocked out. He is lucky to be alive and I hope he learned a valuable lesson.

Work & Housing Using old gas furnace in my apartment
I have a very old-looking wall-mounted gas furnace in my apartment, that I turned on yesterday for the first time since it could save me a lot of money compared to using my electric space heater. And it did work very quickly, but the air smelled sort of singed and I started to wonder how safe it really is - i.e. if it vents properly and isn't producing any carbon monoxide. I have fire+CO alarms but they might not alert on a low level of CO that could still be bad for me. When I turned it on, I felt a little dizzy, but that might have just been the anxiety talking!
I'm not confident that any upkeep has been done on it - the thermostat didn't work when I moved in, and one of my fire alarms was also dead. I think contacting the fire department is only an option if I have a real suspicion that something is wrong, and a routine inspection would be done by a technician instead. Is that something that I can request from my apartment? It's a small building and they would probably have to send someone who's not on their usual payroll, so I think they'll be reluctant to do it.

I never realized until recently I found that the grocery store I normally visit always have an armed guard on duty, no matter day or night

Traffic, Trains & Transit Fainted on BART (Yellow-N)
Saw a woman faint right next to me, didn't realize what was happening until too late and she hit her head pretty hard. Her friend was able to help her up/out, but I regret not asking if y'all needed any help outside of my picking up dropped stuff. IIRC they got off at West Oak or MacArthur, hope things get better and that they got home safe afterwards. Sorry again for not trying to help more but I kinda froze up ðŸ˜
