Work & Housing YOOO PG&E WTF
gallery800sq foot apartment. 2 people. Are. You. Kidding. Me.
Called PG&E to tell them they made a mistake. They said “hmm no it looks like the meter is working fine. Nothing we can do, that’s the price.”
No appliance change. No lifestyle changes. And even if we had, how the F*CKK could a 1bd apartment create a $630 bill?? Also yes, the previous bill. On me for not checking our auto payments. Just assumed they wouldn’t be more than $120….!? Dumb assumption on my part
I hate PG&E.
I know it’s a hostile statement. But I think we can all agree an exception can be made for PG&E…

Fluff & Memes I downvote every PG&E bill post that doesn't include usage numbers
galleryIf you just post a bill without any usage numbers I'm just going to assume you don't know how this works. Yes PG&E is an awful company but like the example above not all complaints are valid.

Traffic, Trains & Transit Fastrak scam
Anyone else been getting these fastrak texts?
Food, Shopping & Services Anyone find it odd Corte Madera has 2 outdoor malls right across each other with highway 101 smack dab right in the middle? Anyone have a backstory on this?
Food, Shopping & Services Boba Guys tops Bay Area Microplastics List with a year's worth of BPA in one cup
https://www.plasticlist.org/report
The above report details this group's methodology and inconclusive results in testing 300 different foods from around SF. In short, they collected samples of food (from La Croix to Stanford mess hall dinner) and sent them to a certified lab for detection of 18 different plastic-related chemicals. The results are very interesting, but keep in mind that very little is still known about microplastics' exact effects on our bodies and their safe quantities. I'm also unsure if other boba places were tested - this presentation of the data would be a bit unfair if not.
Some other interesting things I found in the article are...
- Plastic containers seem to leach plastic chemicals into hot food - an average increase of 34% after 45 minutes
- Raw milk had half the plastic chemicals of store-bought milk. I mention this because it's funny and topical and don't all go start drinking raw milk now
- Rat testicles%20is%20testicles%20from%20control%20rats%2C%20(e)%20is%20100%20mg/kg%20treatment%2C%20(f)%20is%20500%20mg/kg%20treatment)
Anyway, the boba thing was most curious because that's nearest and dearest and perhaps now fearest to our hearts.
Edit: I don't want this to be totally unfair to Boba Guys so I want to point out that no other boba shops were tested in this dataset. For all we know this result could reflect the boba-making process or ingredients themselves, and other boba shops could have more or less BPA.

Work & Housing 300+ applications since August, not one bite. I'm beginning to lose hope about being able to stay here.
I'm seriously beginning to lose hope of finding a job any time soon. I have a background in logistics/warehouse and administration, and I can't find a single job in my field. My disability is reaching towards the end of the of its remaining benefits, and I don't know what I'm going to do. Is anyone else feeling this in the job market?

Events, Activities & Sports A gift to the Bay Area from me - I got 25 bags of trash from the shores of Napa River. I wish everybody a Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year.
galleryAll,
This is a place I have always been wanting to clean up, but never had the time until recently. This place is located close to my cleanup from a year ago, where I helped clear out a massive illegal dumping site next to Wilson Ave. in Vallejo. I am pleased to say that it is still in excellent shape. There is so much debris near the Napa River, that is can be seen from aerial imagery. The risk of it contaminating the river and the San Francisco Bay is high, and I made an attempt to mitigate that through this cleanup. I may need to devise a new strategy since this place is just atrocious.
Regardless, I want to sincerely wish you all well. I understand there is a lot of emotions regarding the politics, economy, etc. My hope is to bring everybody a little ounce of happiness and hope by showing that we have the ability to make a difference. You do not have to go out and volunteer. You can send emails, attend meetings, etc. to your elected officials and demand that something be done, whether it is illegal dumping, housing, etc.
Part of me is nervous about where my efforts to make the Bay Area a cleaner place for all will take me in 2025. But on the other hand, I am also excited. Maybe these small bits of effort might snowball into something. Who knows. I will never know if I don't try, and I am excited to share this journey with you all.
Anyhow, take care everybody. Enjoy the rest of the day.
Sincerely,
Peng/Andy

Events, Activities & Sports 29 Dec, 11:30 am: Lunch/Drinks at Britannia Arms, downtown San Jose
I am a little late to posting this since I've been traveling, but I hope enough people see this in time: I am planning to host a lunch at Britannia Arms, downtown San Jose tomorrow.
I had created a post few weeks ago regarding my intention to do this ( i deleted the post later). I plan to do this once every 3 weeks or so, changing the location for each event. This was driven by all those posts from people missing their home/friends or feeling alone or nursing a heartbreak. I am not used to doing this, but gotta follow through on my thoughts lol . Suggestions are welcome. This is one of the things I plan to do for the community going forward (separate post later on overall plans).
I fully understand that no one else might show up, and that's fine. I understand the hesitancy. I just hope that everyone is able to find some company or reason to feel happy in this season one way or another. I think we need to use our phones less, head out more, and be more open to engaging with others.
11:30 am , Britannia Arms @ downtown San Jose.

Traffic, Trains & Transit I saw a guy take a piss on the BART platform at SFO
It’s 12:30am, coming off a 6h flight, I’m on the train, doors about to close. Suddenly I hear splashing and turn around and there’s a dude behind a pillar and a bubbly yellow puddle of water on the other side of the pillar. I have never opened the Lyft app this fast in my life.

Work & Housing Home Internet service providers
You know what, for the past 10 years there's only one home Internet provider for my condo building. It's Xfinity.
I'm not complaining the price, it's about the speed. The hub to my building pannel speed is capped at 75Mbps. Sometimes, the connection is choppy.
How come the world Internet or information industry center has such ridiculous Internet service providers? No one want to solve this?
