Ty Cobb’s golf tourney prize Likely Solved

My wife found this at a thrift store here in the Bay Area. She was going to melt it down and make some jewelry and I said no way. I did the research and found the archived newspaper talking about this golf tournament. He participated in and this appears to be what he won. No idea how it ended up at a thrift store but the country club is also local.

It could be the same one. Cobb died in 1961. Apparently he was an avid golfer and as competitive in golf as he was in baseball.

Maybe but more likely if it was Georgia and I would think they would say something like baseballer ty cobb or some other reference.

After retirement, Ty Cobb lived in Atherton, California, a mere 30 miles from Pleasanton, California, where the Castlewood Country Club is located.

Yup. He spent his retirement pursuing his off-season avocations of hunting, golfing, polo, and fishing.

In the winter of 1930, Cobb moved into a Spanish ranch estate on Spencer Lane in the affluent town of Atherton located south of San Francisco, California, on the San Francisco Peninsula.
