Am Chinese, think it's Japanese. But either means red is up (see the emoji 📈)

10

u/Fond_Memory Dec 05 '24

A lot of the video looks Japanese. The Toyota truck on the left, the speed limit sign in the background, the color of the traffic light, the fact that the driver is wearing a white collared shirt. But the driver is on the wrong side of the car.

u/Dreadedsemi Dec 05 '24 edited Dec 05 '24

I can confirm. I'm in Japan and it looks like the same app I use (iSpeed). The video is flipped like someone said. He used the search function. and then recently viewed. yeah, red means up, green means down. he's either experiencing FOMO regretting not buying, or he has one of the greens.

here are screenshots from same app (not profile, it's recently viewed)

u/Fond_Memory Dec 06 '24

What bank/broker do you use for investing in Japan?

1

u/Dreadedsemi Dec 06 '24

Rakuten Shouken

1

u/Fond_Memory Dec 06 '24

I have all my USD savings in Charles Schwab, but I also have money piling up in a Japan Post account that I should probably figure out what to do with.

1

u/Dreadedsemi Dec 06 '24

If resident, you can open a NISA account because it's tax free for up to a certain amount, then you can use monthly etf purchases. Parking money in a Japanese bank is a waste because of almost zero interests.

1

u/Fond_Memory Dec 06 '24

Yeah, I'm a resident. I want to send money to my Schwab account but I haven't because of the exchange rate and the hassle. I'll look into NISA accounts. Thanks.

u/Don_Kalzone Dec 05 '24

The little black car in front of him has also a yellow number-sign, which asian countries like japan use. He also wears a mask, which is very common for japan.

5

u/Rich_Housing971 Dec 05 '24

Driver on left, it's not Japan.

11

u/IllHistory2972 Dec 05 '24

The video is flipped. Look at the characters on the phone.

1

u/Rich_Housing971 Dec 05 '24

good point, and that's why the gains/losses are on the left.

1

u/Don_Kalzone Dec 05 '24

I think the car further ahead of him has a yellow plate

1

u/wowshow1 Dec 05 '24

he bought shorts

How many languages do you speak? 🤔

10

u/Regular_Chemical_626 Dec 05 '24

Maybe half?

20

u/TaskenLander Dec 05 '24

”Look lady, I only speak two languages—English and bad English!”

5

u/NBPDC505 Dec 05 '24

Got to see it in the theater again a couple of weeks ago at a local theater. Still one of my favorites films of all time.

2

u/TaskenLander Dec 05 '24

Awesome. I BET that was a good time! 😃

1

u/Vareona Dec 05 '24

1

u/Rich_Housing971 Dec 05 '24

no, because driver is on the left

1

u/random_encounters42 Dec 05 '24

That does look like a Chinese App?

1

u/Ok-Increase-4509 Dec 05 '24

Well I need to go to China with my portfolio then because I'd be killing it in the red!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '24

About to crash in more than one way

1

u/Versaith Dec 05 '24

He's driving on the wrong side for Japan, and the road signs don't look mainland Chinese either. Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia all drive on the left too, so I'm going to guess Taiwan.

1

u/DoubleFeature0_0 Dec 05 '24

Looks like HongKong or Japan

1

u/Radulno Dec 05 '24

He doesn't seem very happy so I think it's going down

1

u/beastmodeload00 Dec 05 '24

He's not fucking leaving!!

1

u/lkhng Dec 05 '24

Not all Chinese the same

1

u/Thelamadalai190 Dec 05 '24

Bro I thought you were kidding, but I asked AI...

Search Labs | AI Overview
In China, red generally signifies a positive meaning in the stock market, indicating a rising stock price, unlike in most Western markets where red is associated with a decline; this is because in Chinese culture, red is considered a lucky color symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. Key points about red in Chinese stocks:

  • Positive connotation: Red usually represents a stock price increase on Chinese stock exchanges.
  • Cultural significance: In Chinese culture, red is associated with happiness, celebration, and good luck.
  • Contrast with Western markets: In most Western markets, red is typically used to signify a decreasing stock price.

u/SherlockRemington Dec 05 '24

Mmm, that positive social credit.

1

u/IPanicKnife Dec 05 '24

That doesn’t look like the reaction of a man who’s doing well in the market

1

u/banditcleaner2 sells naked NVDA calls while naked Dec 05 '24

1

u/anythingall 21d ago
