Semi-Weekly Discussion Thread - December 9, 2024

INTRODUCTION

/r/tuesday is a political discussion sub for the right side of the political spectrum - from the center to the traditional/standard right (but not alt-right!) However, we're going for a big tent approach and welcome anyone with nuanced and non-standard views. We encourage dissents and discourse as long as it is accompanied with facts and evidence and is done in good faith and in a polite and respectful manner.

PURPOSE OF THE DISCUSSION THREAD

Like in r/neoliberal and r/neoconnwo, you can talk about anything you want in the Discussion Thread. So, socialize with other people, talk about politics and conservatism, tell us about your day, shitpost or literally anything under the sun. In the DT, rules such as "stay on topic" and "no Shitposting/Memes/Politician-focused comments" don't apply.

It is my hope that we can foster a sense of community through the Discussion Thread.

IMAGE FLAIRS

r/Tuesday will reward image flairs to people who write an effort post or an OC text post on certain subjects. It could be about philosophy, politics, economics, etc... Available image flairs can be seen here. If you have any special requests for specific flairs, please message the mods!

The list of previous effort posts can be found here

. . . the fuck? Let me get this straight. A post where people are unironically using "STEMlord" to excuse a man's murder is "a really good stickied post?"

Reported as non-center-right. The entire fucking internet has gone insane. Apparently the sitewide rule of not glorifying violence is a lie, provided the "right people" die. Let's see if this sub chooses differently.

Dude Reddit is nuts supporting the shooter. Like, while I felt bad for the guys family I wasn’t gonna waste any tears over a health insurance CEO and I can’t really blame anyone for feeling the same

But like hero worshipping the shooter is insane, like he just shot the dude in the back that’s still wrong

I don't think it's a good post, either, but mentioning it here isn't rule-breaking, given the relaxation of Rule 1 in the DT

FWIW, I was banned for a few days for advocating Illiberalism even though I felt like I was just bluntly stating why we're in this mess in the first place.

Your 'blunt statements' skirted far too close to "Well if CEOs didn't want to get shot..."

We didn't excuse J6 politically motivated violence, we didn't excuse Charlottesville, we didn't excuse pandemic rioting, we didn't excuse the Trump assassination attempt, we're not excusing a man being gunned down in broad daylight just because he was the 'right' person to die in the opinions of the warped and twisted minds of the Reddit and Internet hivemind.

Political violence of any kind is unacceptable within a liberal democratic framework. We will uphold that as strongly as possible.

I'll admit I probably crossed the line, I don't want to imply I condone the violence, because I'd rather stop this shit right here and not it let it escalate any further, just look at school shootings. However, it is a predictable behavioral pattern because, as a nation, we are not mentally well collectively.

But it's that what, we've been debating about healthcare for the better part of a decade now? We all know it's broken but there seems to be no political will to fix it. We could even make the for-profit healthcare system less shitty by making denial rates public, because how can I, a shopper, make an informed decision on what plan to purchase when I don't know how often they denial and for what specific reasons.

Amazing that being anti-murder is now a rarity among Reddit mods.

I don't think this situation is even categorizable in current political doctrine, and it's a mistake to attempt to. This is a little spark of a bona fide class war, as detached from mainstream political BS as anything has been in years. When was the last time the left was cheering the actions of a right wing terrorist like this? I can't think of any. This is a unifying and rallying moment around a familiar set of ideological battle lines that has been lost to time as both parties attempt to court it in a superficial and distorted way while continuing to owe allegiance to the corporate backing they need to win these two-party elections. This event has brought this question back into the limelight in a very direct way.

It's going to be fascinating to see what the political parties latch onto as their key issues, we're already seeing the signs of a major flip as the GOP courts labor and the Democrats are forced to reckon with the fact that their worship of degenerating social ideologies lost to a mediocre Republican platform and will probably continue to for the foreseeable future.

What's funny is it's more like class civil war (with a twist that Brian was self-made and from the middle of nowhere wheras Luigi is the definition of priviliged rich kid), but thats really how it always is with the upper middle class.

Their origins are frankly irrelevant, the fact that someone was a plucky small town boy who grows up to be the CEO of a reviled multibillion dollar corporation that has a track record of screwing people over for profit doesn't make him more endearing to anyone. And if anything the fact that even a privileged and well-connected rich kid is brought down by health insurance in the face of a hereditary chronic pain condition is symbolic, when extrapolated to the average working-class person in the same situation.

Would stand if every other nation also didn't also unseat the incumbent parties due to inflation. (Which is the take closest to the truth imo)

If it's this one https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/s/OmZjPakapc

Then I'm not really understanding? It's pretty solid, especially the mod sticky

If there is one thing we can hopefully agree on, denial rates should be public information when purchasing healthcare.

The right talks about how prices should be transparent so we can make informed decisions, so should denial rates.
