why amtrak didnt just buy alstom new pendolino that seems to work well instead of designing a brand new train with alstom ?
The new Avelia liberty entry in commercial service dont stop of being delayed due to conceptions problems (new platform) so my question is why they dont buy the pendolino which is a good train with a max speed of 250kmh (ok for the nec) and has proven to be a nice working train in use in italy, swiss, spain, poland and china. but they instead designed a brand new train with a lot of structural problems and will be put in revenue service 3years late.

Help me identify this train sound
Hi train-enthousiasts, I need your help!
I have an audio clip and I need to know where the sound is recorded. The sound is some music and then a train departing. Can you please help me identify what country or even city this train is from? I was originally thinking an S-bahn from Berlin, but I'm not sure about it.
Thank you!!!!

How Can Rail Systems Be More Sustainable, and What Does the Future Hold?
Trains offer an eco-friendly option for transportation, but what does the future of rail sustainability look like? Can renewable energy, smart cities, and green construction integrate with traditional rail systems to make them even more sustainable? Let's brainstorm solutions!

New Train Control App
Hello everyone! I have been a long time lover of model trains and recently got a small shelf layout up and running around my home office. I use a DCC-EX command station and JMRI to run the trains, but part of the fun of building a railroad is building a throttle. With that in mind, I enlisted the help of my best friend who's a software engineer and together, we've created a new app called ThrottleCard for iPhone/iPad/MacOS. We're really excited about it and just got it uploaded to the App Store and would love to get some feedback! It makes use of the WiThrottle Protocol, so any layout that can be controlled via JMRI (or other command stations that support the protocol) should be compatible. It's designed with ease of use and aesthetics in mind, and we have a lot of additional features we hope to add soon coming down the pipe.
Please consider checking it out and letting us know what you think!

Why are there crossings here but no tracks
If you follow the S dade trail in Miami Florida, almost every intersection the trail and corresponding road the train come to, has a what seems to be 2 brand new crossing signals, but there is no tracks, I have 2 theories as to why, 1, they are making new track there for a passenger train, or 2, they are there because that trail, is a rail-trail, meaning that that trail was once tracks, but is now a concrete path, and those rails led straight to the Florida keys. So why do you think they are there?

Question What train numbers does SunRail use for its deadheads?
I was watching trains at DeBary station and noticed a number of deadheads from DeLand to Sanford Yard. Does anyone know what train numbers SunRail uses for those moves? They passed DeBary at 8:46 AM, 9:18 AM, and 10:19 AM if that helps. They were the consists that just ran P306, P308, and P312 respectively.

Question The Nick Express
galleryThe collab that I never knew existed, nor thought would exist. Basically, back in 1990, as part of Nickelodeon Studios opening Day Celebration, Nick partnered with Amtrak to create the Nick Express. They chose a handful of kids from a sweepstakes they ran to ride the train from New York to Orlando to visit the studio. An Amfleet ii (and possibly other cars/the entire train) we're decked out in Nickelodeon decor of the era, as well as with some Universal Studios decor and IPs, along with activities for the kids, including several TVs with Nintendo Entertainment Systems strapped to the top of them. On board the excursion were Nick stars like Mark Summers and others.
The route alone gives away the fact that it was one of Amtrak's eastern long distance routes. Unfortunately, there's next to no information on this excursion online asides from the Opening Day celebration footage, and a person talking about said footage. The train itself could be the Silver Meteor, Silver Star, Palmetto, or even the Auto-Train, as this was before Superliners were added to the it. From what I've heard, the only car that was decked out like this was an Amfleet ii, but in some of the shots from the Opening Day Celebration, the windows don't seem to match those of Amfleet ii's, so I'm thinking that some other cars (i.e. heritage fleet cars), were also decorated, if not the entire consist, but I doubt it.
This is a really intriguing mystery to me, and one that I'm hoping can get solved (mainly because I want to model this in HO scale). If you have any information about or footage of this train, feel free to share.
