The NBA delivered its most-watched Christmas Day in five years, with viewership up 84% vs. last year across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, Disney+ and ESPN+.

The NBA on Christmas Day averaged 5.25 million viewers per game in the U.S. The matchup between the Lakers and Warriors – the most-watched NBA regular season and Christmas Day game in five years – averaged 7.76 million viewers and peaked with 8.32 million viewers.

there is no reason every ESPN game should not be on ESPN+

Unfortunately I would imagine cable companies would throw a fit.

Yup. And it’s exactly why ESPN and others tried to distance themselves from cable. Cable needs sports, but sports don’t need cable. ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros tried to create a service called Venu, but it was blocked.

You've got that backwards. Disney loved getting that $10 a month from my Mom who only has cable to get her Fox News and CNN.
