Article Man charged with vandalism after allegedly spray-painting library with swastika

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department’s (MNPD’s) Specialized Investigations Division charged a man who allegedly spray-painted a swastika on the Nashville Public Library’s Green Hills branch.

According to the MNPD, 49-year-old Charles Maguire spray-painted a swastika on the branch’s glass front door on Dec. 14. Maguire also reportedly left “harassing telephone voicemails” to the Green Hills Community Church on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Dec. 30.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around an old man being this stupid. I guess New Year, New Life (in jail) for this turd brain.

To be that old and still be an utterly useless waste of space is mind boggling.

smartway.tn.gov

For anyone unaware, the TDOT site has a map that incorporates WAZE data as well as cameras, so that you can check the roads along your commute if the weather is questionable. Be sure to select options from the "Feature Menu" at the top right of the screen.

Help | Advice A unique problem for me and opportunity for you.

My Mom, who is very handicapped and in bad health, is moving from Nashville to Louisville so I can look after her. She's not very sentimental but she also has a lot of things that some people would want. She has to be out of her house by mid-February and we both hate the idea of just trashing everything (She's moving to s much smaller space and will need to get rid of a lot. She's an old hippy and has pretty decent taste. I was thinking that if people could DM me, they could maybe go by and have a look around to see if anything interests them. Any other suggestions on how to handle this would be appreciated as well.

Politics Have you gotten a public parking ticket in Nashville or any other TN city?

This is Councilmember Sean Parker, Chair of Metro Council's Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

I am researching parking citations and fees and will hopefully be in a position to bring legislation forward to improve this process.

I'd like to see your tickets. Tickets from Nashville, and especially tickets from other cities/counties in TN.

If you have a photo of a ticket please email it to me at [sean.parker@nashville.gov](mailto:sean.parker@nashville.gov)

Your info will not be shared with anyone. You can black out the personally identifiable information and it will still be useful to me.

Help | Advice What are some realities about being a musician in nashville ?

Post image
221 Upvotes

Hi all im from asia singapore and i have a dad that has been a musician all his life. He didnt make good financial decisions so he does not have any savings and has to work in his 70s partially disabled. A gig here you get around 150 to 200 dollars but the music scene is very small we dont have a strong arts scene and so i know people that are being paid 50 to 100 dollars for a gig sadly. It is very hard for artist to make it beyond my small country unless they go abroad

I have never been to the usa although i have family members who have moved there and i use to hear of nashville and texas being quite famous for country music . I like to listen to dolly parton, carrie underwood , ella langley , taylor swift although she is in pop now, pistol annies and for rock and pop three days grace , seether, Evanescence, fleetwoodmac, alice in chains, skillet and a lot of others which is too long to list.

  1. What are some realities you can tell me about the music scene in nashville ?
  2. How much do musicians get paid whether its for gigs, touring and being able to make a living out of music.
  3. What is talent pool like - do you get musicians from all over the world trying to make it or mostly americans? How talented are they ?
  4. Is everyone hoping to get noticed by a record label or a publisher ?
  5. Are those guitarist or sound engineers hired to work for major label or big tour musicians more talented or knowledgeable vs those who work for independant artist ?
  6. Is the music dream still alive ?

Sorry for so many questions im just really curious about the music scene and i hope to visit some cities in the usa and nashvile someday .

Hi fellow Nashville knitters and crocheters. Interested in a welcoming group to hang out and pursue your yarn craft? We meet at the Panera on 21st Ave near Vanderbilt on Tuesdays from 5 - 7:30 - we try to get the big table in the back. We are very laid back and welcoming... we usually end up talking about our pets, future projects, and what books we are reading. Light help is available from more experienced members. Beginners welcome but this is not a class. DM me if you have any questions... or just feel free to join us.

Hazmat, Fire, Rescue, and a couple cops all rolled up sirens blaring. There was a car that was smoking in the adjacent parking lot, but these are still sitting and I saw a couple people run out of the hospital. Does anyone know what’s going on?

Help | Advice Does anyone know of a therapist that is available to speak today?

I know there's the option for 988, and I will be calling that in the next hour or so if this post here doesn't pan out. The only reason I'm asking here instead of calling 988 right now is because I need to finally commit to having a therapist and having regular visits with them, instead of bottling up my problems till I can't cope anymore. Compared to 988 where it's someone different each time and having to unpack everything each time. Plus, I'd like to save 988 for people who are in worse situations than I am. I am not well, but I am not in danger from myself or others.

If you know of any therapists, or are a therapist, who can speak to me today, please pass the info along so I can reach out to them. Even if it's just a brief consultation today and a real therapy visit later on. I need someone to speak to that isn't a friend or family member. I need to do better. I want to try.

Help | Advice Are DoorDash Operations suspended at the moment due to inclement weather?

I live in Kentucky but used to dash in the Nashville area while my wife was working in Gallatin. We got an ice storm a couple days ago and doordash suspended operations here due to it even though the roads are clear now. I desperately need to work and may drive down to the Nashville area tonight to do so. I don’t want to waste my time and money though if it’s shut down. If any other dashers see this, can you please let me know if doordash is available down there at the moment?

Help | Advice Septoplasty Surgery?

Hi All,

I was looking forward to a septoplasty surgery that I have scheduled this Friday with Heritage Medical Associates. I have a severely deviated septum and I can’t wait to breathe.

They called me this morning with confirmation that it’s fully covered by my insurance, except for their $3,054.00 “Facility Fee”… which will need to be paid up front at the time of surgery.

I’m not an expert but I’m suspicious of this high “fee”.. the woman on the phone couldn’t explain what was for or why it wasn’t covered. Has anyone else experienced this? Or could anyone that’s had this surgery recommend somewhere without this fee? Or at least someone explain why this fee is necessary. Thank you!
