New here? 👆👆PLEASE READ THIS STICKY👆👆 Welcome to the sub! Posts about pot and it's related subjects should be shared with our good friends at r/trees, not so much here; we're all about *actual trees* (that's the joke) 😊🌳 'Thank you! Come Again!'

Good day everyone! I'm trying out some new automod skilz and they seem to be operating okay, at this time anyway. That said, few things are 100% the first go, but I'll keep checking the mod log to see if posts have been yeeted that shouldn't have been, and reinstate them in as timely a fashion as possible. Please use the 'Message the Mods' link in the sidebar to contact us directly, not the comment box in this post. =)

Hopefully these new settings will reduce the content not meant for this sub, but if any slip through, I know I can count on you good people to help direct them to the right place with the positive humor intended between our two subs as you always have done. We're lucky to have you!

Any (genuinely) helpful suggestions are always appreciated, and thanks for your patience and kindness with the newbs! 😃

UPDATE:

Today's 11/10/22, it's been a little over a month since the automod tweaks (10/8/22) and I'm rather pleased with the results. There's still some 'bleed through' posts from new redditor potheads, and I believe I've miraculously found a good balance between the ones that are snagged by automod and actual tree posts that I have to go back and approve. Mod reports, I'm relieved to say are much more manageable than they were.

Thank you all for your patience while I tried this out! While it does appear to me to be the case, I hope you're still as happy here as you ever were 😊🌳💗

For reference these trees are invasive in my state so I dig up saplings (with permission), keep them in pots, and use them as pre-bonsai material

Hazard avoidance question

Post image

My father (owner) has recently become worried about these tulip poplars blowing over into the house where I now live. I'd like to keep them, I grew up in this house. Is there anything I can do to waylay his concerns? Like, would trimming branches facing the house make the trees likely to fall the other direction? I don't want to give him a hard time, but I would like to try to save these trees. Thank you in advance. (Yes, I forgot the image and had to post again. Sigh)

Help! Can persimmon trees grow where marijuana can

Ok, now that I have your attention can I grow persimmon or cherry trees in my area(Eastern Himalayas). I have never planted any tree before but I really want to plant them for my grandparents, so any advice helps.

Tea, guava and avocados can grow here, and well weed, which is really a "weed" out here(grows everywhere), it is too cold for tangeringes or other citrus.

Altitude- 1800m Temp range low- annual minimum- around 2-3⁰C -maximum-27⁰C (never over 30) Plenty rain and sunlight along with good soil drainage.

Thanks in advance.

In some spots it looks like it comes directly from the branches. When it’s gathered up it looks like dandelions after they die and blow away.

Can I prune the leaves and some branches off the bottom of this hibiscus to give it a more (bonsai) tree type look. Zone 9b in Florida, if it matters.

Help! Is this longleaf pine or slash pine (southeastern VA)?

Cone measured out to about 8 in, while the needles (when flattened out) were right at 12 in. Confused as to whether this is actually longleaf or not since slash pine also has long needles.

Help! Pin Leaf Acorn germination hi

Post image
2 Upvotes

So basically back in October I tried my hand at growing a sapling from an acorn. From what I saw you need to put them through a germination phase first, so I collected some fallen acorns from outside my house, wrapped them in damp paper towels, but then in a ziplock, and put them in my fridge to get that cool environment. I think these are pin oak, and when I came back today I saw no growth on any of them. What am I doing wrong, pls help. :)

First off, this is almost definitely NOT a "trail tree" as it's far too young and none have ever been found in my area. The corner continues into the ground and the base is still in the ground as well, so it's likely that this one tree has two separate root systems. Groovy.

Norfolk Pine

I got this tree about two years ago and it’s been doing decent, and great at times. It’s starting to wilt at the ends of the needles, even though it’s been watered and has plenty of drainage also. I’m assuming that the needles need to be sprayed? Because there’s not enough humidity in my house now that the heats on? And I had a crazy idea and I’m curious if it works at all but would spray aloe water on the limbs help at all? Or should I just do water? Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

Edit: I forgot to add photos, but there are some in the comments. Also, please ignore my house, I have two children. Young children. Haha

Fig tree growing out of this palm tree

This fig tree at my grandparents is growing directly out of their palm tree in the driveway.

I've noticed that it sometimes will bear fruit in winter months, and generally is just different than the other figs (the have two more in the backyard).
