The smart PC at your table has the collective knowledge of every player at your table.

Bold of you to assume my players have a single dude who didn't dump int across an 8-character party

Oh 5E optimization.

Not really, strength is the better dump because if your not using a reach pole arm or great sword your better off have better int then str since failing int saves is much much worse then failing str

Int is the best dump stat because it literally does nothing for anyone who isn't a wizard or Artificer

Int saves, you don’t want to fail int saves

those barely exist. its just intellect devourers, mindflayers and the only PHB spell that targets Int is Feeblemind, which honestly doesn't hinder you much as say, a fighter or a barbarian.

Feeble mind also fucks you wisdom and charisma and you can’t role play your character.

Also str saves are usually just damage and maybe a minor effect not instant death like int saves are. Also you could pick up the athletics skill to cover almost all strength checks. Their both dump worthy stats do.

Feeblemind only reduces your Intelligence and Charisma, not wisdom.

An ogre shoving you over a cliff is often instant death too.

Not actually you take only 60 damage on average from a 200ft+ fall, if you have blade wars you can bring it down to 30 average, blade ward also halves damage from traps.

You can also use dex (acrobatics) to prevent yourself from getting shoved and you could also not be within 40ft of the ogre

By the same coin you can also not be within 60 ft of a Mindflayer

You shouldn’t try to be in range of monster period always stay in dash range so you can kill them before they attack.

Hey I just realized you think 60 damage is not an instant kill and it made me wonder if you just assume you are level 10+ because a 14 Con level 8 cleric has on average 59 Hitpoints

Yeah not an instant kill since it doesn’t equal 2x max hp.

none of the Int saves, including the Mind Blast from the Flayer kill you instantly, they just incap
