2nd time getting a needle in my eye, no big fucking deal.
currently in the waiting room! after dilating drops.
really hard to feel like the universe isn't just holding me down and telling me to take it.
"well, the good news is, you've kept great control of your blood sugars over 24 years! the bad news is, your body likes to pick on your eyes."
that's a quote from the retinologist on visit 1. surprise shot of avastin in my eye. $350 for the privilege. worth it to not go blind, of course. shot sucks, but the recovery is worse.
I'm back 4 weeks later. eyes fuzzy and swollen from the drops. still pretty scared and furious.
this disease is lonely. I know you get it.
bodies are little miracles that humiliate you over time.
hey, I'll be okay. just tired of "being strong." courage is running on funes, you know? it's an exhausting virtue I didn't ask for.
wish me luck, gang!

Discussion What’s the worst part of having T1D?
For me personally, it’s the constant misunderstanding EVERYBODY has about diabetes. Even my family who looked after me as a kid don’t seem to fully understand how it all works, and that’s after serving on the front lines of diabetes for 22 years!

Supplies Ditching G7, going back to the G6
I have been having seemingly constant issues since I started with the G7 a few months ago. Several sensors that wont pair (I assume because the on-board battery died), and recently most of the sensors will connect with my phone, but not my pump. Not really a 'closed loop' system if my pump cannot auto correct for high/lows.
Called today to have the switch made back to the G6, which I firmly believe is better. Maybe the G7 will be better with time.

Graphs & Data Have you ever seen such a huge “change since” lmao
Had no insulin for a day as i got stranded in the back arse of nowhere due to a storm where i’m from.
Naturally spent that whole day out of range, then the day after was no different with a total of like 30 something percent in range.
Now i’m back to 92% in range with a +45% change. Love it.

Insulin-pen durability
Does anyone have experience with how long Humalog insulin pens last unrefrigerated and unopened?
I am a student and would like to store a backup insulin pen at the university in case I forget my active one at home. Unfortunately, I don't have the possibility to refrigerate it. there.

Important milestone towards a functional cure
Sana released information on their first patient treated with gene-edited donor islet cells, that were transplanted without immunosuppression. It’s just one patient, and only at 4 weeks, but an allo transplant without immunosuppression should be acutely rejected, suggesting their approach could work. A long way to go to FDA approval and wide availability, but it’s another major milestone on the path to a functional cure. More data about the trial should be released in the coming weeks and months.

Meme & Humor On Autopilot
Went to give myself my bolus and proceeded to push 15 units… onto the floor. Wouldn’t have noticed if my wife hadn’t told me it was dripping. Realized then I hadn’t taken the needle cap off. No wonder it was pain free 🤦🏻♂️

Meme & Humor Positives of Having T1D
I remember seeing a post recently asking what the benefits were for having T1D, but from a more serious tone. My tongue-in-cheek thought is that I’ve become reacquainted with my childhood favourite sour candies - stuff I’d previously given up for my health. Now I’ll dig into a bag of Sour Skittles or split some Sour Patch Kids with my son to correct a low. I want to get my hands on a blue raspberry Baby Bottle Pop next.

Any T1D without weight issues on Ozempic?
I've been T1D for 27 years, I'm 32 male slim build. I've been struggling with keeping my blood sugars in range, although now I hover at a 7.7 A1C. From what I understand Ozempic is supposed to help regulate blood sugars, anyone here have experience with it?

Discussion In the market for a new pump soon
I’m currently using the tandem t- slim, it has been the best pump I have used to date, but the time is rapidly approaching when I will be getting it replaced. I would like to keep as many of the t-slims features as possible, but I’m not married to being on a tandem pump. With that in mind, here are some of my requirements and nice to haves but not a deal breaker if it isn’t available.
Require: 1. Smaller capacity reservoir (300u/ml is just too much these days, this amount leads to site changes every 5 to 8 days instead of the recommended 3)
AID/Closed loop with Dexcom or freestyle support. Sorry Medtronic, I have been burned once too often with your cgm
Mobile interface
Web portal with the capability of giving limited access to my management team
Nice to have: 1. Tubeless, yes omnipod, you are back in the consideration mix
Simplified bolus options
Tighter range than 80 - 120 for the algorithm
Pathway to dual hormone, long shot right now but wouldn’t this be cool.
I’m sure that there are other considerations that I have left out, but any suggestions are appreciated.

Mental Health tw: ed & t-1 d
i’m a newly diagnosed t1 (2.5 months) and having a lot of issues with having to focus on food, carb counting, and keeping my blood sugar steady. i have a history of ed, and when i was diagnosed my weight dropped to around 114. i’m typically around 140 or so and muscular.
does anyone else struggle with their body image after getting diagnosed and taking insulin? i’ve gained back 30 pounds since my hospitalization and while i know it’s healthy and my body is taking in nutrients now, my brain is very upset at me for it.
things i’m doing to help: i’m looking for therapist options, but haven’t found anyone for what i need yet. i’ve seen a couple nutritionists, but they are all telling me i’m doing amazing and plan great meals etc. i don’t feel like i’m doing amazing.
i’ll take any advice, book recs, social media account suggestions, etc that you think may help. :( thank you!

Discussion How often do your NFC insulin pens error when you try to scan them?
My doctor thinks my Novopen 6 and Novopen Echo Plus might be faulty?
I got them last year and 90% of the time when I try to scan them they don't work, it just says "scan error". It's so bad I have mostly given up using the feature until it's nearing my appointment and then I madly scan them over and over and over until they finally transfer the data. Unfortunately this time I wasn't able to get them to work so my doctor had no insulin data to look at and when I explained why, my doctor said that it wasn't normal?
I guess this might sound actually insane but I kind of just thought sometimes new technology has a lot of faults and that this was part of the package deal of having these pens with this exciting new feature.
If you have a similar pen that connects to your phone, how often does it actually work?

Supplies Lantus pen not working
My Lantus pen has stopped working. Feels like something is messed up inside. It lets me dial back any dose but when I press down, it’s all resistance and I can’t inject. I’ve changed needles. I’ve tried different amounts. All I can do is twist the dial up and down.
Has anyone experienced this? Any way to fix it? For now, I’m just using a syringe to draw it out as there’s almost 200 units left in there and I don’t want to waste it.
