That much is obvious but what is the golf reference for someone that doesn’t know anything about golf?

Also, it had to be a lowest score wins game for the 69-70-71-72-73 cadence to work. It’s an homage to “Why was 6 afraid of 7”

Oh yeah, this makes sense now, thanks.

A golf course consists of 18 holes, with most being a "par" of 4. Par is the amount of shots it should take a proficient golfer to go from the tee to sinking the ball at the green. So an "average" course is par 72. Shooting by 69 (lol nice) would be a good score on most courses. It's a weak connection but is tentatively relevant.

Old people play golf and old people don’t get a lot of jokes

70 won 70-73 (70 one 70 to (two) 73) (71 72 73)

Took me about 2-3 seconds, but I got it. Kinda works with all 10x for all x from 2-9 though.

True but 72 is par for an 18-hole and golf lowest score wins. Also 69 is bait.

If my perverted mind is reading this correctly, that's the second dirtiest math joke I've ever heard. Second only to:

What's the square root of 69? 8 something.
