Poundage drop after string replacement?
I just had the strings and cables replaced on my Bear Species EV, as the old ones were starting to go. Brought it to the local shop and had them replaced with GAS high octane strings and cables.
The bow was at 70 pounds, with 30” draw with the old strings. I haven’t checked the draw length yet but it feels the same, however, I lost over 5 pounds of weight and it’s sitting at 65ish now, and the let off and draw cycle feels much different now.
Any advice? I’d like to be able to make it 70 pounds again, as I worked pretty hard to get up to that, and my arrows are built for shooting at 70 or higher.

They did something wrong. Grab a tape measure, you can measure axle to axle and it'll tell you if the strings are the right length.

Just checked ATA and BH and both are on spec.
Call GAS maybe?

Huh, that's weird. Are you sure it was 70 before?

It was over 70. Had it measured and it came up as 69.5, so I added a few twists to get it over that 70 pound threshold. With the new strings it’s coming up as 65

That doesn't make sense if the ATA is right. String / Cable length and limbs make the draw weight happen. I have no idea what's going on.

Maybe cables need a few twist? Not trying to flame GAS as I know they are quality strings and cables but my lift 33 wasn’t the same bow after I put GAS strings on it, just could never get it to the same specs, shot noise etc

Those new Mathews strings are really good.
If the cable or atring was too long ATA wouldn't be right.

Your axle to axle should be 30” and your brace height should be 6 3/4”. Like was already mentioned, measure those. They should be off, I would also guess the timing is off as well. Since it is a single cam the cam is probably under/over rotated too. It needs to be put back in spec and the cam needs to be set correctly for timing purposes. You could also look at your limb bolts too. The should be firmly seated at 70 pounds.

Even new strings that are pre stretched will settle and stretch a little after you’ve been shooting them for a while.
I run GAS High Octane on my bow and usually after a month or two I’ll have the poundage checked to account for that. Since I use a slider sight, usually when 20 yards on the sight tape is hitting low on a 20 yard target and I have to move the yardage wheel to 22-23 on the sight tape to hit 20 yards is when I know. Add some twists to the string and you’ll be good if your limbs are already cranked down all the way. This is normal, so nothing to worry about.

So will it eventually get back up to that 70 pound mark?

Yeah, if your limbs are cranked down all the way then it’s a matter of twisting the strings so they take up the slack from them stretching.
Think of it this way, your limbs are cranked down all the way and you put on new strings, you’re sitting at 70 pounds. Those strings are a certain length out of the package, but after shooting for a few months they’re still going to settle and stretch even though GAS does pre stretch them. The strings are now longer than when they were when you put them on resulting in the drop in poundage. Also your limbs aren’t as compacted either as a result of the string stretching. You need to get the string back to its original length which will then compact the limbs again and give you your poundage back.
You then add twists to the string to get the string back to its original length. Adding twists makes the string shorter while taking twists out makes them longer.
If you aren’t sure enough about this to do it yourself, just take it to a shop. They’ll have it done in about 10 minutes.

Twisting the string decreases draw weight. Twisting cables increases draw weight, but if his ATA is on, that doesn’t make sense

Yes, you will need a press to fix this. Bring it to the shop. They need to twist some cables and/or the string.
