Discussion Legal Semi-Auto Rifles List (Center-Fire)

Been seeing a lot of posts recently asking "is *insert semi-auto rifle* legal?" so I figure we should build out a list to help everyone here know at least what is confirmed safe to buy.

Current Production:

Rifles easily ordered online from a big box store to your local FFL:

Military Surplus/Out of Production

Going to have to look on gun broker or used gun section on forums to find these ones:

  • Remington Model 81 Woodsmaster
  • Remington 742, 750, & 7400
  • Remington Model 4
  • Remington Model 8
  • Ruger Police Carbine
  • FN FNAR
  • M1 Garand (CMP is a good place to snag good condition models!)
  • FN-49
  • Walther G41
  • Walther G43

Legal w/Mods

  • Ohio Ordnance M1918A3-SLR
    • Company won't sell directly to WA but could find a private seller willing to sell without flash hider
  • Kel Tec RFB Hunter
    • needs fixed mag or fin grip
  • Kel Tec RDB Hunter
    • needs thread protector welded to barrel

Grey Area/Unsure of Legality

These are rifles not banned by name/not related to any of the rifles listed in the AWB and could be theoretically legal with a fixed magazine:

  • AR-10
  • CZ Bren series
  • Robinson Arms XCR-L & M series
  • FM-15
  • CETME L
  • Unconverted Saiga rifles (really pushing it here, good luck convincing your FFL its not an AK)

Feel free to add suggestions/removals, can update based on comments.

Question Saiga shotgun legal?

Interested in getting a Saiga 410 shotgun in unmodified form. I understand that a Saiga with a pistol grip isn’t legal. Will I be able to get one as long as it has a the traditional hunting style stock?

Question Cheapest Spokane area transfer?

Any lower priced transfers around Spokane these days? Pretty new to this side. I want to get a microdagger frame for my g43, but it's hard to justify the typical $40+$18 I'm seeing on a $60 frame. Wondering if maybe there's a smaller/home ffl I'm not seeing

Question Help navigating the AWB would be appreciated

Hey guys, One of my pre ban lowers is damaged. Long story short, the threads on the lower for the buffer tube are no longer usable. To the best of my knowledge, it is not illegal to replace or repair components for grandfathered rifle’s. Has anyone gone through the process of replacing a lower receiver? If so, can you point me in the correct direction? Thanks in advance

Info Local pits around the kitsap or pierce county areas

I know of a few spots myself but my go to is currently being worked by loggers during the week. I'd like to get out and get some ammo therapy while my kid is at the inlaws.

The other spots are too far out for a quick trip

Discussion NICS delay

About 5 or 6 years ago I attempted to buy a handgun in Oregon (that's where I lived at the time)... the NICS check came back as delayed. Not sure why, but ok, waited a few days and called the gun store to see if I cleared... still hadn't... called back about 2 or 3 weeks later and it was still delayed... after that I gave up.
This is really irritating... I understand that dealers CAN sell after 3 days... but from what I gather most won't... what gives? I totally feel like my 2nd amendment rights are being violated. What can be done? Who will sell after the 3 days and the delay never gets cleared?

Question Traveling with firearms is confusing. Would an airport-specific guide help?

Hey everyone, I’ve noticed that traveling with firearms can be a stressful experience because the process differs so much between airports. For instance:

  • Some airports require you to go to oversized baggage and wait for TSA to inspect your firearm.
  • Others escort you to a designated area where TSA meets you and handles the inspection.
  • In some cases, you hand off your bag and are told, “If you don’t hear anything in 20 minutes, you’re good to go.”

When traveling through an airport for the first time, this is especially difficult.

I’m creating a free website that offers clear, airport specific, step-by-step guides to firearm declaration processes, helping travelers understand what to expect on the ground. The idea is to help people prepare before they arrive, especially when traveling through an airport for the first time.

If you’ve traveled with a firearm, what’s been your biggest challenge? Do you have any tips for other travelers?

Would a resource like this be helpful to you?

Anybody know of any decent rifle ranges in the Arlington/Stanwood/Skagit area? The only ranges that I know of that are still open are all down south.

I appreciate the info!

Info Private transfer?

My buddy has an AR-15 he bought pre ban, and he was talking about selling it, and I was wondering if we took it to an FFL does pre ban acquired ARs still apply to the ban? Would I be able to purchase his AR? I couldn't really find a part of the law that specifically mentioned private sales of banned guns that are already in existence. So if anyone has any advice or tips on that. I just wanna buy my buddies AR lol

Just a quick little hypothetical question. If I were to screw around with a orca lower in cad and print one with a fixed magazine like the ds15, could in theory get it serialized?

Question Beginner-Friendly Ranges in Seattle

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to Seattle and am looking for some advice. I live near Lake City and would love recommendations for a shooting range that’s affordable, clean, and beginner-friendly.

I’m also interested in trying out the Walther PDP F-Series, but it seems like most range rentals don’t carry it. Does anyone know of a place nearby where I could give it a try?

Lastly, I’m looking for a shooting buddy! If anyone is interested, feel free to DM me.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and advice!

Discussion Apoligies to the forum and moderators

My earlier post regarding someone in the politcal sector, was quite active as my phone kept going off with notifications, The post has been removed/closed which I understand. I rarely create a post so I was shocked to see so many commentls floodiing in. I did try to respond to all. To be compliant, I will not discuss the nature of the post as I enjoy this forum and the ideas/thoughts we share. All the best to you!

Question Are there any Uzi-like guns that I could get now here?

Unfortunately, years ago my IWI Uzi Pro pistol was stolen (and reported as such). I fear it may never be recovered, and if it was it'd have to be shipped back into WA by out-of-state police. Now with the AWB in place, is there anything that could be a suitable replacement, limited to 10 rounds? Perhaps a rimfire? I miss it a lot, it was one of my favorites in the collection.

Discussion Question on Firearm Possession / Registration

I purchased a firearm (glock-17) while I was in Kansas from a co-worker, was fairly new at the time, and was registered to him. As someone who hasn't done much with firearms but am looking more into it (going to the range, etc), I want to make sure I register the firearm under my name properly and know what limitations I have.

I have since moved to Washington state for a while and never got around to registering the pistol. I also lost the original bill-of-sale from the owner.

My questions are: a) does that bill of sale matter when I'm registering the firearm? and b) where should I go/ what do I need to do to make sure I register it legally?

Discussion Just left Renton fish and game

I am sick and tired of this fucking place. They tend to hire people who make smart ass comments. I tend to brush it off since there aren't a lot of ranges I can go to that are close by.

Sorry no details in case they lurk here but just wanted to vent my frustration.

Discussion Sealed involuntary commitment

Long story short, I was involuntary commited (wrongly) and told if I agreed to 90 day LRA of medication taking and making doctors appointments I could be released. They said I lost my gun rights but that they could be restored (later learning restoring in wa doesn't restore federally). I was told after the 90 days my record would be sealed. Does record being sealed mean that NICS reporting doesn't occur and therefore doesn't ban me federally?

Info Sig grip module

Just moved to the state of Washington recently, wondering if sig grip modules are on the naughty list. I know the FCU is the serialized part and needs to go through an FFL. Do the grip modules fit the frames/receivers rule? You can buy from sig themself or plenty other online retailers. Don’t want to waste my time if the order will just be denied.

Thanks in advance.
