Policies on having non-student friends over in dorm halls?

I'm an incoming freshman for the 25-26 year and I'm struggling to find the general policy within regards to having guests over.

What would be the general procedure—is there guests passes? Would they be able to stay the night?

If anyone has a link to something of interest, please let me know!

Need help from computer science major---->specializing in cybersecurity

I found a hidden partition on my encrypted drive and there is alot of unused space that is also not showing up when I browse disk management. I've reformatted it, reset the whole device and the partition persists. I can't scan it for malware because the drive is encrypted and I don't have any idea how to decrypt it so I can run an anti-virus scan. Beyond that I am totally lost on how to figure out if it is a malicious file or not. Willing to compensate for your time.

Thanks!

P.s. have other questions and guidance needed, particularly verifying my setup of graphene os, verifying hash file integrity (in general from an downloaded windows/ios/and android apps), onlykey 2fa key setup questions, vpn/i2p/tor questions, best practices against a directed cyber attack ( i trade crypto and experienced a dos attack on my devices which all became infected and inoperable, only after hard resetting them multiple times did some become operable aga8n. I still suspect Spyware/malware on one of them)

13th and olive

Hello all, I am a current freshman at UO and I'm looking to get an apartment next year. I would also like to note that I am a out of state student and I am doing this to get residency. Me and a couple other people were planning to rent at 13th and olive. However before I signed the lease yesterday I got cold feet and I decided to look more at the reviews. And they are all pretty negative. I was wondering if anyone that is currently living there tell me how bad it actually is? Please and thank you!

Advice for Second-Year Student Returning to Dorms

I’m currently a first-year students living Earl, and right now I’m definitely leaning towards returning to the dorms since it’s much more convenient in terms of getting to classes and having a meal plan than living off campus. I know they try and push Yasui and Barnhart for non first-year students but I don’t love the walking distance from Barnhart to get to some parts of campus and I also am not the biggest fan of not being able to have a meal plan if I stay in Yasui. Any non first-years who returned to the dorms have positive experiences with either of those places? Would it be difficult for me to get a room in say, New Res or Unthank as a second-year student? Those are probably my top two choices right now. Any suggestions, thoughts, or advice are helpful, thanks.

Off campus housing questions

My kid is a freshman and plans on living off campus next year. She is able to swing a one bedroom place and has been looking at various apartment complexes. I've seen others who are signing leases already for next fall, and am wondering if we should get on that now or if we can hold off til closer to September; I know not everywhere lets you reserve a unit so far out. Not sure if places tend to jack up rates closer to the start of the school year. She's not interested in any of the places marketed towards students or "micro studio", would like a one bedroom apartment/house/ADU. And is Springfield cool/safe? Seems cheaper there. Any recs of complexes or property managers to look into or avoid would also be appreciated!

Chapter vs. Flock 13

Hi! How is it living in either of these buildings? My roommate and I are between the two for a bedroom 2 bathroom apartment. Flock 13 weirdly does not offer tours which is a little off putting.

Any current students know if Kalapuya Ilihi is actually going to reopen this fall?

I am looking through housing options and see that Kalapuya Ilihi is *supposed* to open in the fall 2025. When I went to visit school last month, there was fencing all around the dorm and it looked a mess. Seems like if they can get is ready for the fall, it will be a great option because the rooms have bathrooms in them. Does anyone there now have any intel on when this dorm will actually reopen?

Is there a non-alcoholic/weed frat?

genuine question, are there any current frats that are not about drinking or smoking? I want to get more involved in school and make new friends right now, but not sure what to do so I thought about joining a frat. I don't drink or smoke and am struggling to find "my people" here. Advice?

A question on first year residence access

Hi. My daughter is headed to U of Ottawa in the Fall and we just picked out her residence. I was reading that students may start arriving August 27? Is it expected that they arrive this day or do students move in over a few days. Our life is complicated and I kinda need to start planning for this already. If she can move in a day or two later and not miss out on anything, it would actually be better for us. Thanks.

Question as an out of state prospective student

Hi, im a high school senior from maryland who just got into u of O. They gave me a ton financial aid, so im considering coming here. My one issue is my dream is to live and work in new york city or washington DC and I was wondering if i'd be shooting myself in the foot by going to college so far from those cities.

Lundquist Admission

Hello, I have a question about Lundquist admissions. I'm nervous about a cumulative 3.0 gpa. I have a class that has given me some trouble this term and my goal is to get into the accounting program. I transferred from a previous institution so I am still unsure of the processes here. Is it possible to still get in to the program with less than a 3.0? Is it a cumulative gpa or do they only look at the gpa of the lower core business classes?

Am I cooked?

I applied to UO for EA in late October. My grades are pretty good, 4.14 weighted, 3.76 unweighted, and a 27 on the ACT(Not as good). I have not heard back yet, but I did have to correct my SRAR, which I corrected and made sure I'm still considered for EA. My brother, with very similar grades and a lower ACT score, got accepted a couple of weeks ago. I'm stressing that I will not get accepted due to how long it's taking(I know the decision release deadline is December 13 or 15), but UO is my top school for a realistic chance of getting in(Cal Poly and UT Austin as my super reaches). I'm probably psyching myself out, but I've heard a ton of other applicants are getting accepted already. Is UO waiting to release the rejection letters by the deadline? Am I just an impatient guy? Damn it I'm spiraling. Thanks for any advice!

I am a Summit Scholarship recipient only taking 12 credits this term, and I am in danger of failing one of my classes. How would that affect my scholarship eligibility?

Would I lose my scholarship if I fail? From what I understand, the requirements for the Summit Scholarship is that you have to take and pass 12 credits each term.

I haven't had a chance to reach out to the financial aid and scholarship office, and I was just wondering if anyone had a similar situation as I do? Was the financial aid and scholarship office lenient with you? I haven't been able to find anything online

I got an email saying that I have mistakes on SRAR. Can I still be considered for early action?

I guess I put decimals instead of letters and had a few classes listed as the wrong type. Can I still be considered for EA?

Billing due date for winter term

Anyone know when payment is due for winter term?

What date is used for "priority" for university housing (registration date or application submission date)?

I registered (created an account) for housing as soon as I saw in the application portal that I was offered admission (around 10/19). Is that the date used for figuring out a student's "priority" or whatever it is called? The housing website says "The earlier you sign up for housing, the more choices you will have when selecting your room." So, I am wondering will it be the date I registered or the date I actually submit the application when it opens at some point this month? Thanks!
