I don’t get one old ppl joke
I work part time at Migros and only in the last 2 days 3 elderly ppl were joking about needing the receipt for the tax declaration. I don’t get the joke😭 all of them said it jokingly but whenever I made an hypothesis the next one falsified it, so can anyone here explain what’s the deal plz? Thanks guys

It's the same kind of funny as 'oh doesn't scan? Must be free!'. Those jokes become old really fast when you work in retail, but I still enjoyed them because at least those people try to be funny and lift everyones mood. Retail sucks enough with all the grumpy assholes being mean and shitty without a reason.
I worked in a chocolate store at zurich main station and had:
-people taking their phone out and stopping time while I wrapped their gifts
-people telling me I should have studied harder so I didn't need to work on christmas
-people insulting me for taking a second to think which chocolate was vegan
-people constantly comenting on my and my coworkers weight, because chocolate haha
-people complaining about prices, daily, and then spending >200.- on chocolate
-people throwing money at me
-people refusing to take their change because I am a woman and shouldn't touch their money
-people refuse to tell me what they wanted because I should remember their favourite chocolates
-...
I quit after 5 months. Retail sucks. Tax/receipe jokes at least made me fake smile for a second.
Side story: Some of our display pralinés were made of wax and I loved people stealing one and then trying not to gag when munching on them. Also old ladies with money are the ones who steal the most.

Omg so many relatable situations, ppl rly are the same all over. Sorry to hear your experience, that sounds horrible. Side story made me chuckle quite a bit:)

Well it came with unlimited free chocolate and was before the owners were outed as child abusing psychopaths. So ups and downs... I have a much better job for my mental health now and forever a deep respect for all retail workers.

don't worry, since the first day i was born in switzerland, i didn't understand it either. But also because i didn't understand to do taxes as well

It's just an irreverent gag; a reply that makes sense in other situations, but not this one. People get all kinds of receipts for their tax declarations, but obviously not shopping receipts.

I even do it for shopping receipts when it's related to work like croissants, coffee, redbull, ...

I work in a pharmacy and I hear that same joke at least 10 times a day. Closely followed by "I don't need the receipt, unless you want to run after me?" ("Sie wemmer jo nid nochrenne, oder?") and "noone will give me the money back LOL".
My best guess: it must be hardcoded into their brains.
