Long shot, but anybody have a recipe like the tortilla soup at Diego's in Devargas Mall? It's been closed almost twenty years but I still crave it!

ski binding adjustment

I have some new/used skis and need the bindings adjusted to fit my boot. They're old enough that the ski shops aren't allowed to work on them for liability reasons, but are top of the line and gently used by a friend's daughter for only a few years. Any recommendations of people who might be able to do this out of shop for cash?

Please don't tell me to just buy new bindings.

Thanks in advance!

Trivia Night!

Hey Santa Fe! If you enjoy some mental exercise in a neat setting with a tasty beverage, I'm posting to invite you to come play trivia with me at As Above, So Below in the Railyard. I've hosted trivia for years, and played for even more years, and was deeply saddened when all pub trivia went away during COVID lockdowns. Unfortunately, when it came back, the once-varied pub trivia landscape has been almost entirely taken over by one company, Geeks Who Drink. They figured out how to minimize contact by having people answer on their phones, and while it did wonders for bringing people back to trivia, if you're like me you've got a problem with your answering device being the portal to all human knowledge.

So if you miss that old-fashioned, pen-and-paper trivia hosted by a grump with a heart of gold (me), stop by on Tuesday or Thursday at 6:30 PM. We've been playing general knowledge trivia on Thursdays since may, and usually have between 15-30 players, and also just completed a ten-week tourney. We're also starting themed trivia on Tuesday nights, with our inaugural theme night, next Tuesday being a 2024 year in review. I hope to see you there, and if you visit because of this reddit post, please say Hi!

Quiet workspace for 3 days in Feb?

I have reviewed the 'Places to work from' post from 7 mos ago, but I have fairly specific needs and thought I'd check in again about places with solid connectivity for 3 full work days that will likely include 3 hours/day of Zoom talking and screen sharing.

I'll be staying with a friend in Nambe and needing to work full days from Feb 11-13. His Speedtest readings are poor. I need to have a plan in case I get there and can't work from there (I'll be trying my hotspot too, but connectivity is uncertain until I'm on site). Any reliable place within 30 mins of Nambe is ok with me, but of course closer is better.

I'll have my laptop and auxiliary travel monitor and earbuds. I've been in a couple of coworking spaces, so have some idea what to expect, and for the calls I must have quiet and privacy or I'll be risking my job. The Co-Fe place is 'fully subscribed' so I guess that means unavailable (if I'm wrong, then it looks like it would be $115 with no guarantee of private space when I need it). At this point I'm wondering if a Priceline casino hotel deal is my best bet! Are there options for me?

[if it makes any difference I do database support for nonprofits]

Taking the Rail Runner to have lunch & walk around the plaza, is there anywhere I can pump? Would like to avoid standing in a bathroom for 30 min if possible 🥲

Sick of Siri mispronouncing “Cerrillos” in Apple Maps so we tried to do something about it…

Admittedly, a petty grievance. We at 505omatic attempt to correct Siri’s mispronunciation “Cerrillos” in Apple Maps. Sure, we could switch to Google Maps, but that’s letting THE MAN win.

Hello everyone! I coming in from southern NM to make a visit to Santa Fe. I was looking at parking and reviews in the area are confusing when it comes to lots. I was thinking of parking at the Sandoval Parking Garage and walking. Has anyone done that? Not too far, and would also give me a chance to explore the city aswell. But wanted to hear if yall had any better suggestions!

I also wanted to know if yall had any restaurant recommendations! Let me kbow what yall like!

Disappointing cell tower?

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is the cell tower at La Tierra trails, off of 599. Standing this close with my Verizon iPhone, I have only two bars out of four signal strength. I’m guessing Verizon doesn’t have an antenna on the tower. Does anyone know if a different carrier has better reception near this tower?

Separate question… anyone familiar with NM Surf’s broadband service? The reviews online seem mostly positive.

New Years events/parties

This the First New Year's Eve I haven't had to work in a while, the wife and I are looking to get into something. We are both in our late 30's. No boxcar. We live here in town so don't need to go over every place. Just curious if anywhere is having anything special.

How is the Cricket/AT&T cellular connection near Nambe?

I'm hoping in early Feb to visit a friend who lives 5 mins north of Nambe, but I need to work a few days while there and his wifi speeds are not enough for my needs.* I do pay for my iPhone14 to serve as a hotspot when I need it and, because of his poor wifi speeds, this may be my only option. But I need to feel more secure about AT&T connections there. Hoping several people might reply with their personal experience in that specific area.

I use Cricket, which uses the AT&T network. Their coverage map shows his address in the dark blue 5G+ area, so I'm hopeful. He says he can see a tower from his house and has 'four bars of Verizon LTE.' I have no idea if AT&T shares that tower or how that works.

This is not really my realm of expertise, so I welcome any more ideas (like would CenturyLink allow me to pay for a week of boosted wifi? are there any places in Nambe where I could work? does working in the same room as the router make any difference?).

*he reports speedtest readings of 17.5 and 1.55 and I need to Zoom while screensharing with multiple people at least 3x a day.

Some dog-social dogs for anyone resolving to grow their pack in the New Year (through Santa Fe Animal Shelter)

Living in a loud, overcrowded shelter can make even the friendliest pooch wary of other dogs - it's an understandable response to stressful conditions, but it can make it hard for would-be adopters to gauge how a dog will behave with their pack. Four of these dogs have proven to enjoy the company of dogs in foster care, and 2 are just wildly social and easygoing in shelter playgroups and with kennel mates. Just like people, not all dogs get along all the time, so if you're interested in any of these dogs, please schedule a meet and greet! Picture are in order.

Aston (black and white face), who came in with a broken leg last January, has been holding the sad record for longest stay. Luckily, a foster stepped up to give Aston a kennel break - he's clearly hitting it off with the resident dog!

Chase (stunning husky) is just over one year-old and is having a blast with two doggy foster sisters. His interests include hiking, climbing into his foster mom's lap, and looking majestic.

Sprout, once more, has been in foster care for two months but has to return to the shelter this week. We've recently discovered that Sprout is a hilarious blend of Olde English Bulldog, Australian Cattle Dog, and Australian Shepherd, which makes all the sense and no sense. Sprout has met many dogs during her foster staycation and played beautifully with most of them - please contact New Hope, 505-983-4309, x1270, to set up a meeting.

Senior Chow Chow mix foster Chuck has plenty of pep in his step, especially he gets to meet other dogs on his daily walks. He's a delightful old man who deserves to be love and be loved in his golden years. Contact New Hope to meet Chuck.

Bleu is a 4-year-old gorgeous black ? breed we recently took on a downtown adventure, where he charmed every person he met, including a small kiddo. Bleu is affectionate, trainable, and known for adoring the company of other dogs.

New Mexico Brown Dog Junie joined us for a Hounds Around Town this weekend and totally stole our hearts. She's a little timid but warms up fast and turns into an affectionate goofball. Junie walks beautifully on leash and is one of the more easygoing dogs in the shelter.

I will post bios in comments, and please feel free to ask questions - I'll do my best to answer!

Credit Card theft

I had my wallet stolen out of my vehicle. The person went and charged 1k at Walmart, target, Lowe’s, and a smoke shop. They said she was a lady w short blond hair. Has anyone ever dealt with CC theft and is it worth pursuing a police report? The companies caught on and shut them down pretty quick, but she did get a lot in a Short time. I hate people who steal!

Edit: I did let the cc companies know immediately and they shut them down and will cover the loss. It happened so fast. I do get notifications to my phone. She did this all w in an hour or 2 and I was busy so I didn’t see my phone. I was just wondering if it’s worth pursuing with PD.

Is anyone interested in Kirby?

I know some family members with old ass Kirbys from like a hundred years ago that ate still going strong. Are there any people here in town interested in having their own? Are there people that need minor repairs on theirs to get them going again?

Visited Santa Fe for the first time in ten years. We used to come every Christmas with my grandma. Santa Fe was here favorite place on earth and her entire aesthetic for as long as I lived was adobe pieces, southwestern handmade rugs, kachina dolls, R.C Gorman art, red chilis, and native jewelry. Ten years ago was our last Christmas with her and of course we spent it in Santa Fe. This year I hiked to a peak overlooking the city and got to spread some of her ashes there, it was one of her last wishes and being able to finally do that for her was so healing. Being able to immersive myself in the art, food and culture brought me closer to her again. Thank you Santa Fe for your kindness and love. And amazing food( that doesn’t exist in Colorado haha!)

All interested in beauty services

Good morning, Santa Fe! I’m a local esthetician providing beauty services like waxing, lashes, specializing in brows & lash lifts. I’m looking for people in our community interested in receiving eyebrow & lash lift services, discounted, in exchange for a small photo op.

I am trying to go outside of the box as far as my social media, I’m really wanting to get creative and I have a Pinterest board filled with ideas. The pictures wouldn’t take more than 15 mins (most likely) but they would include props/makeup, etc. and all be taken at the salon (or a separate location I’m always down for) but since it’s just in exchange for a discount don’t want you guys to have to do the most.

To change up my current feed, here’s specifically what I’m looking for to create a specific vision (but of course all are encouraged to reach out to get on the books!) -male/nonbinary guests wanting a lash lift -male/nonbinary guests with big thick brows wanting a clean up/brow shaping -female facial wax (we’re talking lip, chin, sides—the fuzzier the better) -heterochromia (two different colored eyes) -anybody with thick/long lashes or shorter lashes in need of a transformation

Also, come next month I am wanting to start offering vivid brows—meaning we lighten and color with a fashion color so if anyone is open to that in the future, let me know. 2025 is all about embracing ourselves and I can’t wait to express my creativity with like minded folks. I will attach my Instagram so you can see my feed (I’ve done about 3 little mini pictorials so far) and also see my portfolio. Again I’m not a beginner, just looking for fellow artists who love to create.

Drinking and driving around?

I'm a NM native, but only been in Santa Fe for about a year. I lived off Jaguar for a bit and now near Rancho Viejo.

I saw this a lot when i first lived off Jaguar -- tons of alcohol bottles along the side of the road. I lived in a relatively nice neighborhood there, and every night it seemed like there was a new broken beer bottle thrown against the walls and shattered everywhere, or a box of empties discarded in the median.

Now i'm in RV and they just opened Falcon Way Rd. what....4 months ago? And the number of beer cans, bottles, and jesus....even empty 750ml bottles of tequila....it's fucking pathetic.

I know how NM is and i'm used to seeing the occasional beer can or miniature, but this is next-level. Is this like a "cool" thing to do for a certain subset the population? I'm at a loss for words.

Acceptability aside, it just seems like you'd have to be a complete fucking loser to drive around drinking in your car. These people really have no place to go crash? Or a bar with friends they could go hang out at? Or even just like...go get drunk at a park or in an arroyo or something, i've done that plenty of times and it was great. I'm honestly curious how you end up partying in your car on a saturday night and throwing all your garbage on the side of the road while you endanger everyone else's lives on the road.
