Important Research at NMSU
Hello All
Just want to let you all know, that NMSU is currently shooting for R1 status, which indicates heavy research activity and is nationally recognized. The Carnegie standards will soon be changed slightly, which places NMSU into R1 status!
With this in mind, I want to encourage everyone to please consider participating in research on campus, even if you do not get course credit for it. If you go to nmsu.sona-systems.com you can create an account to participate in social science research for the Psychology department and collaborations, but there are many departments who conduct research elsewhere as well.
This thread will be a place for research studies to be posted, so please consider participating as it ensures that NMSU remains an R1 university (which means more funding for research, and better national recognition for the University!). If you have a study (approved by the Streamlyne IRB system at NMSU) then please feel free to post here.

Wait-list
So I just need one more class to complete the 15 credits I need for the tuition discount. I only have one option of class since I have already completed all my electives and I just don't want have a course that I don't need anymore and I can't take to other because I still need to apply to get in my career. So I can only take this course but is only two clases available and both on wait-list in one of them I am the first in line. I guess I am just seeking for advice, is actually probably get notified when you are on wait-list and it's your turn or should I check every hour ?
Question What are some good clubs to join?
Hey everyone, I’m looking for recommendations on good clubs or student organizations to join at NMSU. I’m interested in keeping an open mind and would be a great way to meet new people. Any suggestions or personal experiences you could share would be much appreciated!

Scholarship Application
I am starting my Masters program at NMSU this spring. I do not want any more student loans. Is it worthwhile to fill out the Scholar Dollars Application? I'm doing the program online and part-time. I wasn't sure if scholarships are mostly reserved for on campus students.

Handshake
Hello, in my previous post about school jobs I tried to apply for some positions in handshake at NMSU. I was wondering if they let you know about their decision if they don't accept you. Also usually how long does it take? If not I will just check in person for positions available

Course Textbooks NMSU Global
Hi guys so this will be my first semester at NMSU. Transferring from another school. I received an email saying my books for next semester are available on Brytewave. When I look them up in the bookstore it says " Above item is part of a program where course materials are included in a course charge or tuition". However, I read somewhere else that they give you access to the books and then after 2 weeks charge your account if you don't opt out. I found one of books for $34 dollars bookstore price $110. So I was wondering if anyone goes to NMSU and knows how it works. I know I should email the college, and I have but I guess they are on break. I don't want to wait to long till someone buys the book and I have to pay much more.. thanks in advance.

Discussion How do you cope with chronic illness on campus?
As someone who has POTS and fibromyalgia, I'm curious how other students live with chronic conditions on campus. Living away from home is daunting when one's conditions can make them feel far from independant. What gas helped you cope with your illnesses in this environment?

WiFi down
Anyone still on campus know how long the WiFi will be down? I think it was a scheduled one but I cannot sleep and I was binge watching South Park again 😂

Housing Roommates
I have a room available in a 4BHK apartment, just a 2-minute walk from NMSU. The rent is $325, and the security deposit is the same amount. The room is available starting in March, with a 6-month lease. Female roommate preferred. Please reach out to me if you’re looking for a room.

Academics Anyone know how the accounting program is and maybe even if it’s worth switching majors to?
I’m currently dual majoring in ME/AE but after talking with a few different people, accounting sounds very tempting to switch over to. I’m not sure how they actually program is, but I’ve spoken with the Director of Master of Accountancy Program and it’s definitely got my attention. I’m just not certain if I want to make that jump though. I’m at a point in my degree where I’ve gotten all the basics and some engineering classes covered so from here until graduation it’s just pure engineering classes. I could switch over and be in a similar position to where I am now, I just don’t know if it’s worth it.
I’ve taken those career aptitude tests and usually the results haven’t been very helpful.

Nutrition at NNSU
Hello hello!! I’m looking to enter graduate school at NMSU but can’t decide if I want to go to Texas Tech or NMSU. I’ve heard great things about the dietetic internship at NMSU. Anyone have any tips they can share on their experience in this field?

Applied Machine Learning I ( CS 458)
Has anybody here taken this class with Dr. Nogueira? If so, do you think you could give me a rundown of how difficult this class is or give me an example of what was most difficult for you?
I am planning on taking this course in Spring 25 and I would just like to be a little prepared and be able to brace myself for the semester ahead of time.

People should sign up for History 320, American History Through Film
Hello folks,
I am teaching a new class in the Spring, History 320, American History Through Film. It meets once a week, Weds from 1:30-4. The class involves reading one article or short book chapter per week outside of class, watching a film (either a documentary or a feature film) in class, and then doing some in-class discussion/groupwork. There's also a midterm and a final. No research paper though. This would be a great class for someone looking for a very accessible upper-division elective. DM me with any questions.

UPDATE for: Urgent Help Needed: Last-Minute Math Placement Exam Before Transfer from EPCC to NMSU—Advice and Study Tips Welcome!
NOTE: This post is an update on another Reddit post in the same subreddit, r/nmsu. Click here for the link to the original post.
UPDATE: Everyone, I finally took the test, and let me tell you, the practice test they provided was utterly useless; yay! It's like that meme shown, which is that the practice test covers you outside the topics given in the test, so when you do the test itself, you are completely unprepared and get obliterated.
Fortunately, I did remember most of them and wrote them in a notebook after the exam before they faded away from my memory. When comparing it to the practice exam, which is named (FA23 practice_problems), it was completely different from the exam itself, so yeah, don't use that because it is useless. Let's see what happens to me; hopefully, I don't get rejected to do my degree and unfortunately have to resort to the nuclear options of either having to get into DACC or, in the worst case scenario, withdraw entirely from NMSU and instead do a pathetic certificate elsewhere.
Did it happen to anyone before?
Also, what would be your recommendation if you were to be me, as I got a 7 out of 40 in the Math Placement Exam?
