brock mcleod
does anyone else here have terrible experiences with brock mcleod? me and a few of my friends have been met with nothing but rudeness when asking him for help. he’s never given us a straight answer and half the time it feels like he’s not even reading the emails.
i emailed him about accommodations for a class and he basically said “too bad so sad you can’t take it” after expressing health concerns (i’m working with DAS too but it’s taking awhile so I emailed him as well since it’s for a class soon and i told him that).

CS161/162
What programming language(s) are used in these classes? My son has taken some college programming classes during HS and we are trying to figure out if they might earn him credit in these and/or allow him to test out.
Side note: anyone do a bachelors in mechanical engineering with a minor in CS? Is that just too many credits to try to cram in or is that doable?

I have been throwing up everyday and can’t make it to school, possible explanations could have me out of classes for a week or two
Is there some protocol here that I should be following like contacting the school? I could try and work it out with each individual professor? Thanks

Accounting
Does anyone have experience with Accounting major. Is it fairly straight forward and a productive major? Does it come with jobs and resources to find jobs? Or is there a lot of BS classes you have to take and a struggle to find work afterwards. Thanks

CS electives - ecampus
I'm curious what people would say were genuinely useful electives choices for their CS program. Right now I've taken MTH 254, MTH 341, PH 211, PH 212 to satisfy the elective requirements.
In upcoming terms I'm looking at those new machine learning courses they rolled out, MTH 351, AI 531, and CS 475.
As an ecampus student, the default applied CS elective choices are a little constrained; I'm not really interested in security or graphics.
What classes would you recommend? Why were they impactful?

Danske
Hej, Jeg lagde også et opslag op tidligere. Men jeg studerer på Oregon State university og vil gerne vide om der er andre danske, eller er der nogen, der taler dansk? Hvis der er nogen, så kunne det være fedt at møde jer. Kh Alexander

Too many classes/too rigorous?
Had to increase to 20 credits to avoid graduating later. I’m a non resident paying full tuition so it’s “easier” for me this way, but I don’t wanna burn out and tank my mental health in the process. I’m a junior and finished most of my bacc core hence the reason for the multiple major classes, also have 2 part time campus jobs, both 10 hours a week each with the option to cut back hours for either one. 3 of these are hybrid/in person, and the other two are all ecampus. I know this general answer is probably yes; but just wanted an opinion from others who took the classes, maybe even together? Is this too much to handle?

Lease takeover at the retreat!
galleryHi! I am looking for someone to take over my lease at the retreat starting ASAP.
The rent for January is all paid for and I am willing to pay the month of February as well!
The lease is also renewed for next yea, so you will have a place to live until August 2026!
It is a 4 bed 4 bath apartment, and you will get your own private bedroom and bathroom! And it’s furnished! It has a dishwasher, and in unit laundry. It also is super close to a beaver bus stop! You also have access to the clubhouse which has a gym, pool and sauna!
The rent is $815 a month, and then with utilities and an assigned parking spot it comes to $900.
The roomies are all really nice and sweet! You will be living with 3 other girls, so I’m looking for females only. No pets either!
There are no issues with the apartment or roomies, I just have a family emergency and I need to move back home.

Too many classes at once?
Hey, I’m an Ecampus junior majoring in zoology. My plan for this quarter was to take Z 374, BI 319, and either FW 302 or FW 311. However, it looks like I planned my next year out incorrectly, and, by graduation time, I would be short 2 or 3 credits depending on which one I drop.
My question is: do I just say screw it and take all four classes? I was already having a hard time choosing between the two electives because both sounded interesting. It’s 15 credits, which is more than I normally take because I also work part time, but I’m wondering if anyone else out there has taken these classes online and would think these are too hard to take altogether or would think that I could do it!
Thanks all, Sko Beavs! 🦫🧡

I need advice for my major
So I’ve been accepted for fall ‘25 as a marine bio major and I’m from South Dakota, but I plan on returning after getting my degree and pursuing a job there. I planned on working for the city and trying to restore the big Sioux river which is our major water area over here, but I’d also like to work with our local zoo/aquarium if possible to try to encourage others to get more into the ocean.I know the major and the plan contradicts so I’ve been considering switching my major, but I’m not sure which would help me the most. What I’ve drawn up from about 2 hours of looking is environmental science but still have that marine emphasis so I can still study the ocean, and maybe minor in geology or ecology. Do you guys have any suggestions on what I could do to study the ocean but still return to a landlocked state for work?

ST 351 Acrobatiq
Hi,
I’m taking ST 351 Ecampus and the materials include purchasing the Acrobatiq textbook. Is this necessary? Is there a free pdf version anywhere? I don’t really have the money to buy a textbook right now.

Anywhere to privately shower on campus?
I’m trans (FTM) and I’d like to be able to work out at Dixon, shower, and then go to my classes without having to return home (I live off-campus). I’m not exactly comfortable showering in the men’s OR the women’s locker rooms though as I’m pretty sure the showers are all open. I’ve heard there’s a gender neutral shower at Dixon but just the one. Is there anywhere on campus I can shower somewhat privately?

ChatGPT (AI) Policy
HORT310 Plant Propagation with Cara Still is the first class I have taken at OSU to have a ChatGPT (AI) policy. I think it is fair and I like the full disclosure aspect. Your thoughts?
ChatGPT usage in class In this class, you are allowed to use AI programs (ChatGPT for example) to help brainstorm, collect information, and generate ideas. Whatever information you collect from it must be framed in your own words and supported by content covered in class. You do not need to use AI tools if you don’t want to.
To ensure that you are both citing ChatGPT or other AI properly and reframing information in your own words, below are some guidelines for usage to adhere to. Use of ChatGPT or other AI tools without following these guidelines will result in a 0 score on discussion efforts.
- If using ChatGPT, Save the chat you used to generate ideas for your post. Copy the link using the share chat icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Paste the chat link below your discussion post for others to see.
Example of chat link: https://chat.openai.com/share/ff9f2a4d-1a6c-4d5b-9e88-5972fcd1c8b1 If you are using another AI tool, cite the tool at the end of your post instead. This is a helpful link for citing AI tools to get you started.
- You may not copy/paste ChatGPT answers straight as your discussion effort. Instead, reframe the information in your own words and take care to verify truth of information. Remember that this tool still has tendency to ‘hallucinate’, or make up information and citations, so everything must be verified. To this end you are not allowed to post numbered lists. Instead, everything must be written in full sentences in paragraph format.

Bobcat roaming town
Heads up that a bobcat was just (3:52 am Sunday) spotted near the community center. I heard the sound of it attacking some animal, and then watched it cross the street.

How Time Consuming is HHS231 Online?
How time consuming is HHS231 online version? It's only 2 credits but I have seen people see that it is time consuming for a 2 credit course. Asking because I am trying to take HHS231, Calc 2, CS271, and working 20hrs a week.

Online CS Business Option?
I've been taking general CS classes for a while, but I'm starting to need to make a final decision on my option. I'm considering the business option, and was wondering if anyone has experience with that track?
I'm also considering taking some business classes at a community college later for cheaper and opting for a more CS focused option.
Thoughts? Opinions? Testimonies? Thanks!
