I've played FF14 and I like it but that fanbase really needs to understand MMOs aren't for everyone. Also, considering the mass amount of content from expansions and patches, it's basically its own franchise separate from the typical main series in the same way 7 is. That's not a bad thing but people can be FF14 fans without playing the other games while others can be FF fans without playing 14.
The entirety of Shadowbringers is essentially a love letter to 3 with how the game uses the Crystal Tower as one of its foundations for its storylines.
There’s something I love about this. Not only does XIV take a lot of that music from III too, it expands on it. Each track lasts twice as long before looping, so when Masayoshi Soken remastered those tracks, he invented entire second halves of them.
Now listen to the FFXIV version. Not only is it fully orchestrated now, even though it takes a little longer, it should loop at the 80-second mark. Instead, it keeps going, with brand new music that was not there in the original. Invented just for this game, even after previous remasters like on the DS version. Now it loops more at the 130-second mark. (But also this link adds in the battle version of the theme at this point too, so ultimately it doesn’t really “loop” at all in this video.) And my favorite part is, you would not know this just by listening to it. To people like me and your brother, even if we knew this music originally came from FFIII, we wouldn’t know what parts are original are original to III or XIV just by listening to this version alone.
