What part is this? It’s under the air intake hose tube and resonator. Of my 4.7 06.

I’m definitely am a fan of the Dakota. I wish the 4.7s were stronger. Head gasket went on mine. Do I swap the engine, or replace the gasket?

Switch mounting locations

Have some a pillar lights with the switch that I wanna mount somewhere on the dash to turn them on easily. Right now I just have the wire loose, but I don’t like it. Does anyone know if anybody makes some sort of custom piece to mount it or anything like that? I’ve seen them for other vehicles but not ours. Been thinking about mounting it on one of those little cubby’s next to the HVAC controls / under the vents

Gonna clean o2 sensors on my 05, anything I should look out for?

I have zero mechanical experience, I bought an 05 Dakota v8 at the auction for cheap, it's lifted, was straight piped, with 33 inch mud tires. I bought a red necks truck. Tires were so wide they scraped while turning.

I've located the o2 sensors, the lower ones are easy to get to and the top one on the left is in a somewhat okay position to get to. I'm afraid I can't get to the right side upper sensor. If I do not clean them all, will that matter? I'm getting pretty bad mileage right now. About 15L/100km city and 12L/100km highway. Also leaking oil from under the engine, not sure if it's just a work gasket or a valve cover. Also leaking from the transfer case, also easy to get to. Just looking for some tips, things to look out for. I'm not mechanically inclined at all but I'm looking to learn and do some basic maintenance

How reliable are manual 2002 Dakotas with the 3.9L V6?

Question's simple enough. I currently have a 2004 Explorer SportTrac that I'm selling because it has issues that I just don't wanna fix and GUZZLES gas. I spotted a 2002 Dakota for only $2,600CAD and only 224,000kms on it. It's a 5 speed manual, which I think would be a ton of fun to have a manual truck. But I just wanna know how reliable they are?

Rebuilding my '99s engine and transmission

Wish I thought to check Reddit sooner, just realized that sub was here.

It has a title states I have a '99 Dodge Dakota v6 sport, I am either the third or fourth owner after my uncle who beefed up the suspension so he could use it to tow a small camper back and forth between Florida. Before that the little old lady and man who had it before him basically used it for projects and that was it. This thing hasn't even rolled 90K.

Sadly that doesn't stop time from doing its worst. Back in November I pretty sure I either A. bent a valve rod, B. Blew a piston ring, or C. Blew the head gasket. While the body has quite a bit of rust being it was in Michigan most of its life, it's largely cosmetic with the only real concern on two of the cab mounts. With the engine and transmission having so little mileage I've decided to unload parts Cannon and rebuild the engine from the ground up for the most part.

I was able to get the engine out and on a stand yesterday, however storm rolled in and I'm not going to be able to work on it for the next couple of days.

My biggest question is to anyone here that has done work on there Dakota, especially rebuilds are there any major pitfalls or things to watch out for?

I am not a mechanic by trade, but I'm no stranger to working on cars. I've helped pull and rebuild engines with friends and family before when I was younger but it has been a little well and this will be my first time for myself.

For anyone that it reads this and is about to do the same thing, if you find yourself in my shoes. PULL THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION AS ONE UNIT!!! Mine was an absolute pain in the butt, the bolts to detach the transmission from the engine are an absolute pain to get to because of the firewall, and are multiple sizes. Have a good hoist or Gantry. Wasn't until I had it out and started whacking on it with a rubber mallet that I realized it was the alignment dowels that were completely rusted in place. Thankfully a couple of putty knives and gentle tapping separated two.

Technical Question Weird shudder / strutter / loss of power

Hey, I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota slt quad cab (3.9L v6) and recently it’s started to act weird. Whenever I start to drive and it hits a little under 2000 rpm or at 2000 rpm anywhere from 30-60 mph it does this weird stutter or shudder almost like it has a loss of power but it’s not actually loosing power. It also occasionally happens when I’m going reverse and it feels like it happens on a small scale while I’m sitting at idle. Supposed to have a small snowstorm where I live this weekend and I won’t be able to take my truck anywhere until next week to get it checked out. Looked online and it says it could be anything like bad spark plugs, fuel injectors, or torque converter clutch but I’m not certain.
