Guns & Ammo CCW when flying to a restricted state

Tomorrow I’m flying to Colorado to go snowboarding. Colorado has a 15 round mag restriction and bans “ghost guns”. My typical carry gun in a P80 build w/ 15 rd magazine so that’s a no go.

I realized I don’t have very many carry guns that fit both those constraints at the moment.

These two guns are the ones I’ve put the most rounds through in the last couple weeks that are legal so that’s what I’m taking.

I bounce back and forth between the WML on and off. Much more comfortable without.

Guns & Ammo CCW Set Ups

My county limits me to three on my license. Decided to keep the set up similar for familiarity with manual of arms. Having said that, the xmacro is my go to and what I find the easiest to shoot.

So 500 rounds through the RMR HD and I’m pretty sure it’s replaced the SRO as my favorite pistol optic. Mainly due to the auto adjust sensor actually working pretty well, vs the SRO’s which is subpar. It also seems like the dot is slightly crisper to my eyes.

Last three optics have been SRO’s but I think from now on it will be RMR HDs on new guns.

Holster solutions

Looking for holster ideas. I want to go from the position shown in the picture to right handed OWB.

Also want it to be secure. So I was looking at Safarilands QLS system or similar. But I’d need attachment points on either side.

Goal here is to leave behind an attachment point that is not a holster. So I can leave it securely attached all the time and just slide in my holster. But have that same holster attach to an open carry set up.

Context: because I know everyone needs to know “why”. Vast majority of my travel in the Jeep is to go hunting which is an hour or more away. I open carry in the woods. So I’d like to be able to pop off my open carry holster at the house, throw it in this position for travel. Then pop it back off and on my RH OWB when I hit the woods.

TLDR: Looking for dual sided secure quick release holsters for my 365 XMacro. Thanks.

Guns & Ammo Recommendations for a gun-shy wife’s first firearm?

Hey everyone, it’s pretty much as the title says. My wife is very wary of firearms but has slowly been warming up to them since we’ve been together. Lately, she’s been showing more confidence around my firearms and I think she may be ready for a handgun of her own - specifically one she can conceal carry if she decides she needs to. The only issue is, she’s never even fired a gun before and my only experience is with a Glock 19. Would anybody like to recommend something that is comfortable to carry but easy to shoot for an extreme novice? I’m hoping to get her into a range to rent and try a couple different models here soon, but we won’t be making a purchase for the next few months.

Guns & Ammo Opinions on the Shield Plus Carry Comp for CCW? Should I get it?

Thumbnail i.redd.it
12 Upvotes

Hello everyone, so as the title suggests, lam looking at getting the Shield Plus Carry Comp as my new CCW and wanted some opinions and information about it. I am traditionally a Glock guy and I love my Glock 19, but it's too big for CCW for me in most cases. I also own a Ruger MAX-9, but I'm dealing with some reliability issues (Yeah I'm going to send it to Ruger), but overall just don't enjoy shooting it very much due to the snappiness and feeling as if it's just too small. I have been doing a ton of research and I really like the idea of having this as my CCW. One thing I would like in a CCW is a thinner firearm, hence why I am looking at this firearm as my Glock is too thick and my Ruger just feels to skinny so I want something in between. This does that for me. Secondly, I really like the 4" barrel as it will assist with recoil and add a bit of velocity to my ammunition, as well as I don't run into any issues carrying a firearm with a longer barrel. Thirdly, I want something that has a good trigger. I am okay with the Glock trigger, but the Ruger trigger is far from great and I don't want to swap it to add another layer of possible areas of failure for an already malfunctioning firearm. Fourth, I want an optics ready firearm and like the idea of this being a direct mount rather than a plate system. Finally, I really want a reliable CCW, which l've heard the Shield Plus is. I could opt for the Glock 48, but it just seems like for an extra $50 (which I can find it for), I can get something that just has a lot more features that would be worth it. Just looking for anyone who is able to rationalize my thoughts and tell me if they agree, disagree, or just have any extra points of discussion that are important. Once again, any personal experiences or just general opinions are welcome and I apologize for the word salad thanks!

Holsters & Belts First week carrying questions (HK VP9)

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Hi guys, this week was my first week concealed carrying. I kept it in the same position as seen in the photos. I have slowly been making adjustments to the holster to see whats more comfortable. The main issue I have noticed with appendix carry is being able to pee at a urinal and the fact that it’s pointed at my balls. Today I tried it with strong side carry and it prints way too much. The xiphos v2 holster is made for appendix carry as stated on the website so I’m gonna start looking for a better strong side holster. Any tips are appreciated. The first 3 photos are appendix. The last 3 are strong side.

Permit Process How long it took to get a CCW in Mecklenberg County, NC in 2024

This is the entire process and timeline of getting my CCW permit in Mecklenberg County.

CCW applications in NC require applicants to successfully complete a state approved firearms training course. I took mine on the third week of October at Carolina Sporting Arms. It's on the pricier side ($150), but I love this local gun store, and the instructor Joey Attanasio was fantastic.

Completing the course involves a shooting examination of 10 rounds at 3, 5, and 7 yards each (very passable).

After the training course, I received a certificate of completion which is needed to complete the online application (https://mcso.permitium.com/ccw/application?permittype=new).

I submitted the application the last week of October (costs $99), and went in to the Sherriff's office in Uptown to get fingerprinted (the fingerprinting fee is accounted for in the application cost). To get fingerprinted, you need ID, your certificate of completion, and a printout of the 8 page application you filled out online.

The lady at the desk said it would take 40-50 business days to complete. I was highly skeptical of this considering the long wait times I was warned about in Meck.

From there, they provide you with an order number where you can track the progress of your application. For 2 months, the status said "assigning to processor" meaning they haven't even started working on my application. This was annoying.

40 business days later, the status changed to "processing".

About 5 business days later, I received an email and text notification that the permit was approved and being sent to my address. Overall, it took 49 days for my application to get approved, and 51 days including the completion of the firearms training course.

For context, this is a remarkable improvement from previous years where the infamous Sherriff McFadden was taken to court by Grass Roots North Carolina, Gun Owners Foundation, Gun Owners of America, and Rights Watch International for sending out CCW applications to the VA for mental health checks EVEN IF APPLICANTS NEVER SERVED IN THE MILITARY.

Hey everyone I made this post to get some ideas of what’s a good choice for pocket carry. I’d also like to see some pictures of some peoples setups as well.

Here are a few options I have thought about just haven’t decided. Recommendations would be appreciated as well. A external safety would be a nice touch too. I am also open to DA options.

Pocket Dump / EDC Glock 48x / Sig p365x / Glock 26?

Hi, I currently own a Glock 19, but I find it difficult to conceal carry due to the grip. It always prints when carrying appendix, and if I carry it at 4 or 5 o'clock, it's uncomfortable too. I'm using a Tenicor Certum3.

I've been considering the Sig P365x, Glock 48x, or Glock 26.

With the Glock 26, I could keep using the same holster and magazines from the Glock 19.

Could anyone recommend one of these options? Which would be the best suited for concealed carry?

Thanks!

Holsters & Belts Holster Reviews - Upper Hand Holsters & BraDeC

BraDeC: Can't speak highly enough of this one. I got the IWB holster from BraDeC. It's the best value of any holster I've ever had. They were also very quick to ship, it was packaged well, just quality all around. It was less than $50 with DCC clips and arrived within a week. I actually prefer this to the Vedder LightTuck which cost twice as much!

Upper Hand Holsters: AVOID! Junk quality and bad customer service. It was relatively cheap at about $60, they shipped it quickly, and it was packaged well - that's it for positive feedback. Then it went downhill..

The holster obviously didn't fit correctly. There was no audible "click" as the gun went into the holster. It wouldn't seat fully, leaving the magazine release outside the groove, the trigger slightly exposed, and the gun able to slip forward and back in the holster. Additionally, when worn on the belt, the gun tended to want to flip over the belt (this is with a CCW pistol and would be way worse with a compact or full size).

I emailed them to ask for a refund as nicely as possible. They responded by saying it's rare that there are fit issues, asked for pics and the pistol specs to make sure it matched the holster. I sent the pics and we emailed back and forth a couple of more times with them basically saying nothing was wrong, they need more testing, trying to blame me, but they ended up sending a return label. I sent the return back and few days pass with no response. I follow up. They say they conducted "thorough and multiple evaluations" and were "unable to replicate the issues.

They said they'd issue a full refund after the back and forth. When they issued the refund, they kept the shipping charges.

I can't tell if it's bad service or bad standards, but either way, I recommend avoiding this company and paying for better quality.

Just wanted to share because I didn't see many reviews before buying from this company. I had such a great experience with the BraDeC, that I thought another value holster may be the ticket. Not this one! Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Legal Out of state travel

Taking a road trip next week. All but one of the 6 states I’m traveling through have reciprocity with my states CCW. My destination state also honors it. As I’m traveling though Illinois, how do I go about? I won’t be doing anything there just driving through for a couple of hours.

Pocket Dump / EDC "Anything EDC should be uncomfortable"

Is what a buddy of mine said. I highly disagree. Some people have no idea what edc means. It means your off duty. You're not in the military anymore. Being the Grey man isn't a meme slogan.
