I have changed the rules and anyone can now make a post without prior permission being needed.

Please be patient while I go about getting this place in order.

Norovirus

Upvotes

Hello, all. I have Norovirus. I have the projectile vomiting, the diarrhea, and exhaustion. Does anyone else have the intense pain in your body? Like, my organs feel swollen and close to rupturing. Every time I cough, laugh, sneeze, or sometimes breathe too heavily, my whole torso erupts into agony. My legs are aching, too. Anyone else have that? If so, what did you do for it? Any help whatsoever is appreciated.

I need awnsers

I’ve been vaping for about 3 years and smoking carts and weed for a year and I’m starting to get a consistent crunchy cough. It also sometimes hurts to lay down because my chest feels crushing pain. Is this any signs of illnesses or diseases?

What’s the Best Diet or Eating Habit You’ve Adopted for Better Health?

I’ve been trying to focus more on my health with my New Year resolution, but there are so many diets and eating habits out there—it’s overwhelming! Some people recommend intermittent fasting, while others say balanced meals and workouts are the way to go.

Personally, I’m looking for something sustainable, not a quick fix. What’s worked for you? Can someone recommend a specific diet or simple eating habits that can genuinely make me feel better, both physically and mentally? I’d love to hear about your experiences or tips. I need some honest opinions to make better choices!

What would happen is someone never drank water in 40+ years?

So there’s someone I know, 40s/M, who never drinks water because he does not like it. He only drinks energy drinks and caffeinated pop like Coke/Pepsi. It made me curious about what the neurological effects would be if someone just lived their lives never drinking water. What would be the long term effects on the body and mind?

(I hydrate, so don’t come for me! lol)

Auto Immune diseases and Social Security disability.

I was diagnosed with an auto immune disease around 2004-2005. I applied for disability then but I was denied. I’m now turning 55 this year and will try applying again, as my symptoms are worsening and it’s harder to keep a job with an environment that I can work well in. I’m extremely sensitive to sunlight and have problems in my legs (swelling, pain) so it’s hard for me to do a lot of walking or being stationary. If I apply for social security again, is it possible to receive back pay of 20 years. I’ve worked, solidly, about 6-7 years out of that 20 trying to support my family but it was very difficult working with pain. Does anyone have any advice so I can get the help I need?

Can someone give advice?

Okay so, hi, I (19F) got an appointment at the hospital (finally) after months of waiting. But I would like to know what I need to talk about. I'm going to a internal medicine (idk how to call it) docter who is going to try and see where my problems stem from. We have no clue as of currently

Overview of my symptoms: exhaustion going on for days or weeks after sporting leaving me to stop exercising. So exhausted I couldnt follow school, still struggling with that. Basically I'm surviving of caffeine which makes me feel horrible but makes me able to stand up. Only walking works to lessen the symptoms, laying down also helps but I get really dizzy if I stand up or smth.

History: severe mental health issues, depression, personality disorder and autism. Hasn't had mayor health issues. Is on medication called ability.

Can someone tell me what to tell the doctor? What is important info and what needs to be removed/added?

Ongoing vertigo from possible infection??

I'm 23F in decent health stance. I've never experienced vertigo related symptoms. Since around thanksgiving, I noticed whenever I would roll side to side at night in bed I would experience a spinning sensation for about 5-10 seconds, but this was getting worse everyday. To the point where I felt as if I had no energy, trouble concentrating, or like I was drunk throughout the day. I had a breaking point and went to the urgent care about a week later, the physician looked at my ears (redness, fluid, agitated looking) and immediately diagnosed me with an ear infection EVEN THOUGH I had zero symptoms of ear pain, pressure, etc. I was honestly shocked but relieved that it was an easy fix, so I took the antibiotic and meclizine as prescribed. (Meclizine didn't do anything)

I actually felt really good for about 3 days until it slowly came back again. But it was worse, imbalanced throughout the day and sometimes didn't even feel comfortable driving. Even worse when I'm sleep deprived (I have insomnia). I finished the antibiotic and contacted my PCP to which he declared the ear infection was gone, was very unsure why I was still experiencing all these symptoms still. I took matters in my own hands and saw a ENT to which she said sounded like BPPV. She wanted me to get audiology testing first (hearing test, VNG) and then to see a PT which I did both this morning.

What I can conclude is the hearing test and VNG went well according to the audiologist, BUT she said my reaction times are pretty delayed. I asked about BPPV and the 'crystals' being out of place and she was very sure it wasn't that at all. Then, the PT performed some physical tests specifically positions that trigger the vertigo. He concluded that he also agrees that this isn't BPPV but simply damage from an infection. According to him, he sees this a lot in patients with chronic dizziness, experiencing vertigo after a simple ear infection. I now am advised to see him 3x a week and still awaiting for the ENT to review my test results.

My question is has anyone ever experienced this relating to an infection? Could I have damage because I was mainly asymptomatic to an ear infection until the vertigo started, which caused me to get treated long after the infection started? What were your solutions and what helped you? I'm sorry if this is a lot, it is just draining me mentally and I want answers and a fix ASAP.

Homemade electrolyte rehydration question

I'm trying to get ready for norovirus, because better to prepare & not need things than the other way around.

Looking at recipes for rehydration drinks, most are pretty similar: 1 quart water, 0.5 teaspoon table salt, 3 to 6 teaspoons sugar.

Some add flavor, some substitute / add potassium chloride.
All much less expensive than buying pedialyte.

I'm wondering if baking soda can be used for the sodium? Would it have any advantages over table salt?

Are my symptoms caused by the trace and mild heart valve regurgitation?

I’m 28 years old, male. I often experience palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, muscle aches, fatigue and sometimes blurred vision. My echocardiogram that I recently got and showed trace mitral valve regurgitation and mild pulmonic valve regurgitation, the LVEF is 60% and the LVFS is 31%.

My previous echo results which was a year ago and was done in another hospital, and the results showed only trace pulmonic regurgitation, with 66% LVEF and 35% LVFS. I’m concerned about the difference between these 2 reports and only a year apart.

Doctors said that there’s no need to worry about it because it’s totally normal to have trace or mild regurgitation, but I’ve been so anxious and depressed because of this. I take 20mg of propranolol to reduce the symptoms, it only works occasionally.

I know that I have a cracked tooth that has not been fixed for a long time, the tooth had a root canal treatment so I would not feel any pain even if there was an infection. Anyone if this is the reason that caused the mild heart valve regurgitation or not really?

Since the crack has not reached the gum line, I never took care of it. The dentist has suggested to put a crown on it, but some other people have suggested to pull the tooth out because bacteria can still get into a crown.

Could the symptoms be related to the lungs instead of the heart?

Please give me some advices, thank you!

Post-Thyroidectomy with Complications

Following a trip to an urgent care on Jan 4 2024 (for suspected covid/flu) I was redirected to the ER where I was diagnosed with thyrotoxicosis with storm. I was admitted for a week to bring my system back from the brink.

For the remainder of the year, my doctor and I exhausted all pharmaceutical avenues to control my hyperthyroidism with graves.

I have finally had had enough and elected for the total thyroidectomy on December 20th. Because of the complexities of my particular case, it was agreed that I would say overnight following what is usually an outpatient procedure here.

The overnight stay turned to 7 days, five of which were in the ICU on a calcium drip. I was hypocalcemic and hypomagnesemic (sp?). I had also developed a rash on my chest and neck that was mistaken for ringworm and treated with antifungal meds. It continued to worsen until rivulets of sticky goo ran down the swollen rolls of my neck and pooled into blisters at my nape.

It turns out it was impetigo herpeformis (which no one on my care team had any knowledge of) so steroids cleared it up in short order. Still, it took days and it was horrible.

It really was awful and I gave all these details only to illustrate how hard this has been on my body. If I understand correctly, this particular impetigo is an autoimmune response mostly affecting mothers after a traumatic birth.

I do not want to go back to the hospital but I have been, for 3 days, pooping bright red blood that fills the toilet and requires a second or third wipe with some clots (not unlike menstrual blood). I'm positive that the calciferol and the literal 3x740 mg TUMS 4 xs daily has caused me to be so constipated that I've given myself a hemorrhoid. Does that explain the blood and, if so, will it right itself with home care?

I know I should be an adult, but I don't think I can handle being ass up in a doctor's office under inspection if I can avoid it.

Implanon removal and hormones

After so advice... I have struggled with my mental health for a very long time but over the past couple of years it has been under control and havent had any major issues with it. I also had the Implanon birth control from the age of 16 -24. 5 month ago i got the implanon removed and my period came back straight away. Ive noticed that a week or so before my period I have these really bad mood swings where I get super depressed as bad as I was before I got my mental health under control. I was never really effectived by my period before or while I had the implanon.

I do take antidepressants, mood stabilises and vyvanse but Ive taken them for years and these mood swings have only been this severe since getting the implanon removed.

I was just wondering if anyone else had these side effects after getting the implanon removed??

Thank you in advance

My lab results make no sense to me - Help 🥺

I just had my blood work done for the first time & I'm honestly baffled. My cholesterol is 330 and my A1c is 5.6. I am a pescatarian, I hardly drink cow's milk, & I do not drink soda or any other form of sugar. I eat extremely lightly. I have an apple a day & a fresh squeezed lemon 2-3 times a day. I am only adding this detail because both are supposed to help with cholesterol, from what I have heard. A normal day for me, meal-wise is 1-2 of these things: Yoghurt, salad, chickenless sandwich, pizza or a veggie burrito (once every 2 weeks), veg sandwich with meat alternative slices. About 3 days each week I will only have a couple of fruits & my daily egg & I fast about 2 days a week. I eat one egg pretty much every day. I have coffee with almond or macadamia nut milk every morning. I take quite a few supplements every day, each deeply researched & carefully selected. I do not get a ton of exercise as my work is in an office but I take a 20 minute walk 3 times a week. I'm 37 & female, I'm 5'6" & 140lbs. Please help me understand what the f is going on 😥

(Value 330 High Desirable: <200 mg/dL Borderline: 200 to 239 mg/dL High: >240 mg/dL)

(Hemoglobin A1c: 5.6 Normal range: 4.8 - 5.6 %)

Ongoing stomach pain for 14 years

Hello! I hope this reaches someone who could give me any insight. I'm a 27f, 5'4, about 100lbs, I fluctuate between 90-120 over the past 7 years or so. Anything I eat causes me stomach pain, I drink water it even hurts my stomach. In the mornings around 6 am every day I'm in around a level 5/10 stomach pain that subsides around 11 or so. Doesn't matter if I eat or not, it still hurts. Ive been to countless appointments, ive gotten ultrasounds, upper and lower GI, blood work after blood work, more ultrasounds, diet changes, nothing helps, doctors say its anxiety. I follow up and get on anxiety meds around 2020, they do wonders for my anxiety, my stomach though still hurts constantly.

Ive since stopped taking all psych meds, even my birth control (depo shot for about 6yrs right after high school, mini pill for 2yrs after )

I do have a sensitivity to gluten and lactose, even cutting out those do not help my situation. Seems I'm sensitive to everything even plain water. No doctors have given me any help that ive seen, I cannot live like this though. If anyone has any insight please lmk!

TLDR; everything makes my stomach hurt, doctors can't help me, something's gotta give I can't live like this

Could using dextromethorphan cause a false positive for morphine in an ion scanner?

I’m an electrician, and worked on a project in a prison. Each day, to enter, we’d have have to check in all our tools, show ID, and have a non-invasive search using a metal detector wand and the same sort of chemical swab machine used in airport security.

One day, the swab test came back with a strong positive for morphine. It made no sense to me, since I’ve never been on any sort of opioid. We tried again, this time the skin beneath the top of my sock (fresh socks, showered in the morning), and again, morphine.

Is there any good explanation for this? I know the DXM molecule has some structural similarities to morphine, but figured such a machine would have no problem distinguishing the two.
