Damn. I really like Tri-X though… Tri-X and Rodinal such a nice pairing. Too bad. Well I need to reup on films so maybe I’ll try a different brand.

Just bought 4 rolls of Kosmo and the Agent Shadow line was successfully kickstarted so I’ll be getting a couple rolls of those as well.

And I just bought some xtol -.-

It’s too bad there’s no real replacement for portra.

My black and white is instantly switched to ilford films.

I’ll switch to ilford developers and such.

Newsflash Kodak, photo journalism is STILL journalism and upheld by journalistic rules.

Hate to say this, but I hope it gains traction and Kodak goes out of business and lomo takes over their film business and makes all of the film/chemicals somehow.

Fuck Kodak.

Shit I’ll even start shooting fuji superia and pro 400h ii if they bring it back even though I hate Fuji colors.

Just so you know Adox makes a developer, Adox XT-3, that is supposedly almost identical to Xtol.

Kodak will not go out of business, they are the biggest name in the game.

Kodak filed for bankruptcy in 2012

Which worked. Lots of companies file for bankruptcy.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re not the thriving titan of industry they once were, but they’re not going under any time soon.

Yeah, I get that. I just thought it was funny that the person I replied to still has their brain in the 1980s (unless they were being sarcastic of course.)

Haha fair enough

https://kosmofoto.com/2020/01/eastman-kodaks-still-film-production-more-than-doubled-in-the-last-four-years/

Kodak is worth 1.2 billion. They are absolutely the biggest film company, and they have a larger variety of film than any other company. Of course no film company is as popular as they were in the 80s, duh.

And yet here there are, still clearly in business.

u/I_Recommend Jul 19 '21

No they probably won't, but their teeny tiny photographic film division certainly will.

My point still stands.

Doesn't look like it.

Lol. So the fuck what. Someone else will take over: lomo has been growing steadily ever since film began its resurgence.

Fuck Kodak. And any company that bends to CCP.

Nah. Another company will just take over their emulsion.

Lomo would salivate at that idea. Fuji might just make a push back into color film, the only reason why they haven’t is because of an agreement with Kodak. Kodak does color, Fuji does slides. Ilford might take a bold step. Agfa might also have a tickled pickle for the occasion.

These are small market segments, but any company worth its salt would be an idiot to take pretty much freee money.

“Take over their emulsion”

You mean their fiercely protected IP?

-5

u/the_spookiest_ Jul 19 '21

You mean it can be bought?! Yes it can.

Lomo uses Kodak film as a base.

2

u/gizm770o Jul 19 '21

Yeah. You can go purchase a product. That doesn’t mean you can go purchase the recipe/formulation of that product to make it yourself.

u/the_spookiest_ Jul 19 '21

Yet.

Companies sell IP all the time: or are you a newborn who doesn’t understand that?

Kodak sold their IP to another company, that’s how you got “Kodak alaris ” The name “Kodak” stayed simply because of branding. “Alaris film” sounds like some new company that old farts are not familiar with.

u/gizm770o Jul 19 '21

Hey look, it's yet another person who has no idea how that whole thing went down, or how the IP rights were handled. Shocker.

Oh btw, see rule 2 and enjoy your ban.

u/the_spookiest_ Jul 19 '21

You too! You act like you didn’t personally attack me. Lol.

Man you like them boots. It's actually pretty easy to not buy Made in China products. There is even a large sub on reddit for that.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’s definitely not “pretty easy”. I was calling that person out for being such a dickhead about this, when I doubt they bring that same energy to avoiding literally everything produced in China. And the fact that they refused to answer pretty much confirmed that. They’ve never owned anything from Nike or New Balance or Converse or Adidas? How about Ray Ban or Forever 21? Never used a Gillette razor? Never played Monopoly? Or used a Dell or HP product? 35% of air conditioners are made in China and I guarantee they didn’t check what kind of AC they have. You have to make it a mission and go out of your way to avoid products associate with China. I’d be willing to bet you have plenty of items in your home right now that are a product of China.
