Discussion Why are AppleTV shows so good?!
HBO was my favorite network, but after Game of Thrones, they haven't been able to bounce back. Apple TV has the best content; shows like Crowded Room, Constellation, and Criminal Record are the best I've ever seen.
I liked the premise of Servant, but it seems like M. Night was making things up as he went, and it fell flat despite its potential.
Amazon's only standout was The Rings of Power, which I found boring. Netflix's only saving grace is Stranger Things.
Apple TV keeps pushing out more content. That's it—that's my post!
Any upcoming shows you’re interested in?
Any recommendations?

Discussion Wow! The streaming quality of AppleTV+ is absolutely incredible and so far ahead of its competitors
Hi.
Hope you’re doing well.
Been a subscriber to ATV+ for a while and, I know i’m not saying something new, but the image and streaming quality continues to blow me away, every time.
Regardless of when I’m watching a nature documentary or Slow Horses or Silo (my favorites), the level of detail you can see is amazing and it’s so crystal clear and true to life in a lot of its content and excellent use of HDR and in other content there is great use of colors and accuracy as tje filmmaker intended.
So, just wanted to share my enjoyment for ATV+ and the only thing I’d consider a downside is the size of the library, but there’s always something interesting to watch for me.

Discussion Have This Strong Sense There are a Bunch of Apple Shows No one is watching
It's sort of astonishing the rate at which Apple keeps pumping out shows, which is quickly.
But I'm getting a sense there are definitely shows that almost no one is watching - these are shows that are barely written about or shows I have never heard anyone mention even once.
the new Billy Crystal Show "Before" - anyone watching this? Did anyone notice that this came out? It seems to have come and gone without anyone noticing. And the season isn't even over yet!
Franklin - the Michael Douglas show about Benjamin Franklin. it also seems like no one was paying attention to this show either.
Land of Women - this show I did watch, but it really didn't seem like anyone else did
I just want to contrast these shows to other Apple shows where there IS a sense people are watching them because word-of-mouth is being generated and there is much discussion about them online: The Morning Show, Silo, Foundation, Invasion, Slow Horses, For All Mankind, Disclaimer, Severance, Ted Lasso, Presumed Innocent - these are all shows you definitely hear buzz about.

Discussion Apple has spent $20 billion on original content in 5 years
Unfortunately they don't have a lot to show for all this spending:
Apple TV+ launched in 2019. Since then, the company has spent over $20 billion to build an impressive library of original content, Bloomberg reported earlier this year. Yet, despite a highly regarded library of shows and movies with big names in acting and directing, Apple TV+ only garnered 0.3 percent of US screen viewing time in June 2024, per Nielsen.
In July, Bloomberg aptly underscored how minimally competitive Apple TV+ is, writing: "Apple TV+ generates less viewing in one month than Netflix does in one day."
Apple doesn’t provide subscriber numbers for Apple TV+, but it's estimated to have 25 million subscribers. That would make it one of the smallest mainstream streaming services. For comparison, Netflix has about 283 million, and Prime Video has over 200 million. Smaller services like Peacock (about 28 million) and Paramount+ (about 72 million) best Apple TV+'s subscriber count, too.
Apple TV + has 259 shows and movies after 5 years, $20 billion.
Netflix has over 18,000 shows.
In the last 5 years, NF has probably spent more than $20 billion. But they've probably got more content in that same time period.
The article points out that Apple has cast big names to bring a lot of prestige but the viewing numbers and subscribers have not materialized.
It speculates that ads are coming.

Discussion Why does Apple TV+ have so much bangers?
Apple TV+ isnt that common in Germany rn so I just tried it and I loved
- Severance (10/10)
- See (9/10)
InfiltrationInvasion (9/10)- They changed the title in Germany which makes no sense cause Invasion in german means Invasion too
- For all mankind (8.5/10)
- Silo (8/10)
- those numbers are already pretty critical, compared to the majority of series you would have to give those series all a 11/10
and seriously, I was impressed by the amount of awesome productions. They exceeded the latest big productions of Netflix and Amazon imo
I like that much of the series are somewhat different. Other series formats on other plattforms have become pretty repetitive.
Edit2: I watched Foundation which was absolutely awesome. A few minor plot holes but overall a very beautiful show with much to look forward to. Now Slow Horses, Platonic, Drops of God and The Big Door Prize are next.

Discussion Has Apple TV+ lost its award winning ways?
Apple TV+ has failed to win as many awards over the last 12 months as it did earlier in its life.
The lack of any award wins at today's Golden Globes (see: https://deadline.com/2025/01/golden-globes-2025-winners-list-1236246217/ ) and the lacklustre performance of their recent film slate is perhaps an indicator of a change of focus or is it simply a lack of or poor awards campaigning?
Thoughts?
Personally I feel that though there is still some great content coming out but, as always, Apple's inability to properly market shows to a broader mainstream audience also impacts on both their subscriptions and awards success.

Discussion Apple TV+ celebrates 5 years. What are your expectations for the service future?
Apple TV+ launched 5 years ago, on November 1, 2019. The service focused on original programming and no third-party catalog, which made it difficult for the service to gain traction. In those 5 years alone, almost 2 years were of production halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and double strikes in Hollywood.
The service still seems small and unknown to a large part of the public, and although it accumulates failures, it has had real successes, at least by its own standards, such as The Morning Show, For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Presumed Innocent, Severance, Hijack, Silo, Bad Monkey, Slow Horses and Monarch.
The number of subscribers is still a mystery, but Deadline recently said that there were 25 million direct subscribers and 50 million subscribers in packages, such as Apple One itself and third-party ones, worldwide.
How do you see Apple TV+ so far and what are your expectations for the future?

Discussion How is Apple TV+ doing after 5 years since launch?
In about a month Apple TV+ turns 5 years old. How do you think/feel/know how the service is doing for you and for Apple and the industry itself?
My personal experience is that now it has enough content to satisfy a wide range of viewers. But still I don't know many people who are subscribed to the service or care about it except for maybe e few big shows. Also the recent change in strategy for movie releases and type of movies indicate to me that Apple itself expected different results ai this 5 year mark. What about you?
