Nice ATV+ free weekend. I wonder how many new and old subscribers will come from it? Discussion

Lots of good stuff like Masters of the Air miniseries and Greyhound movie. I wonder if Apple will do it again in the future like HBO, NBA, NHL, etc. do for USA's cable and satellite TV services. I might subscribe later on. I need a break though after >10.5 hrs. since Fri. night to last night while sick with a nasty Norovirus from (happy?) New Year's Day Eve(ning). :/

Gonna be honest I feel like this weekend came and went without many people even knowing this was available.

It worked on my coworker and he didn’t finish Silo season 1 so he is going to subscribe! I was shocked he started telling me about it honestly.

I saw a lot more social media buzz than usual for Apple TV. The question is how many people decided to pay for a subscription after the weekend. Apple hasn’t even released a teaser for 2025, which is what I would expect after this weekend, while people are still thinking about the shows they watched. It’s all very complicated on Apple TV. From the name of the service to the marketing, I don’t know where they’re going or if they’re going anywhere at all.

I might end up resubscribing sooner than expected because of it. I bit off more than I could chew by trying to rewatch Severance and catch up on Shrinking (including S1 rewatch since its been a while) and burned out and didn't finish, so I might resubscribe now to finish them.

That said, I forgot how much the interface annoys me. And I was randomly getting "an error occurred" messages and had to clear cookies and log in again.

I also had a bad experience watching Argylle last night. The movie isn't as bad as people made it out to be, but the service tried to hide the after credits from me. It autoplayed something else just after the credits started and I had to go back. I struggled with it on the Roku app and ended up having to do it from my laptop and hold it up for my partner to see. Even then it fought with me. Very frustrating experience. If I hadn't known it was there beforehand, I would have missed it.

Do you have a target red card? On the app go to My Target, scroll down to “exclusive partner perks” and there’s a three months free offer

We don't have Target in Canada. They tried and immediately fell on their face directly into a pile of pig shit. It was honestly pretty impressive how bad it went.

I won't consider ATV+ until they have an android app.

I salute people I see on the train, watching shows/movie on their phone. I could never.

Same, along with people who have shows on in the background. Both that and seeing shows/movies on phones on the go are just insane concepts to me, doing media such a disservice by consuming it that way imo. But to each their own.

Can you elaborate please.

I doubt much will change. ATV+ should be part of iPhone purchase or just part of Apple One as a value add. I don’t need another monthly payment.

But you don't need an Apple hardware product (can watch in a modern web browser and updated apps). Just Apple ID e-mail account and payment (gift cards would work but it still wants a payment type so they can charge you if you don't cancel it).

What I mean is that you buy an iPhone, you get a year free or something like that. Maybe bundle it with Apple Care? I’m just not that interested in paying monthly for that service

When I got my new 12 mini back in the summer of 2021, it was six months free trial. I tried to start it but it wanted a payment and not use my gift card balance. :(

I got 12 months free last hardware purchase.

I may buy iPhone 17 pro this year, from 14 pro. Wouldn’t mind a 12 month trial

Apple brought back the year? Nice!
