Two quick questions:

  1. Looking at adding an advanced science console to a pretty typical sci build. Which one is generally considered the most broadly useful if im doing normalish science.

  2. Looking at updating some ground stuff soon and trying to figure out which ground set to go for on a science captain. Rep options first I guess since I'm not looking at lobi stuff till anniversary.

logged in on the arc launcher and i dont have any of my characters, I only usually play on steam and don't know if I need to do something else

It looks like you inadvertently created a new account through Arc, so that's why none of your characters are there.

I don't know if it's possible to log into a Steam-linked account through Arc at all (I only play through the standalone launcher/exe).

You can keep your Steam copy untouched. Just download the Arc launcher and run STO. Once you log in to a character you should receive mail saying you've got new items if everything goes correctly.

Personally I’ve never had a problem with it, but I do know a fleet mate who said it always launched with his graphic settings changed.

I've got a dumb question.

Do y'all bother putting sets on or adjusting gear for your small craft, like shuttle craft? I'm not talking about hanger pets, I'm talking about the shuttles/runabouts/fighters that we personally fly in several missions.

Is it worth it to kit one out or should I just leave it stock so to speak with the gear that auto adjusts according to level.

2

u/redzaku0079 2d ago

considering that there isn't much content specifically for small craft, maybe not. i have however, been thinking about making a character who only has a small craft. anyway, back on topic, i just borrow the equipment from my main ship and watch it make a mess of missions.

u/AscenDevise 2d ago

If you're not actively taking it through content, it's not worth having one to begin with; an active small craft has been known to contribute to loadouts bugging out.

If you want to actually use it, get rid of the trash it comes with just as you would with a regular vessel and kit it out. /u/neuro1g has a Vaadwaur Pythus build with a bit of conversation around making it even nastier in the comments. You can downscale that on, say, a Scorpion or a To'duj, with minimal adjustments, if you would rather not shell out the EC for a lobi small craft.

u/snotten @Infected 1d ago

In addition to the loadout bugs shuttles seem to cause, having a shuttle active is also a common cause of the «Map Transfer Failed» bug that can stop you from joining a TFO. While you can usually work around that bug by opening the character sheet, it almost never happens if you dry dock or discharge all your shuttles.

2

u/shadowofthegrave 1d ago

Is that still happening to people?

I don't remember it triggering for me since the update that allowed smallcraft (back?) into TFOs a year and a half ago.

3

u/snotten @Infected 1d ago

Yeah, sadly still happens sporadically to a bunch of folks.

1

u/AscenDevise 1d ago

Well caught, I've been getting way fewer of those without a small craft active (and without hotswapping between ships in space). My solution, though, has been relogging. The character sheet thing did get me into the map, but with a fully-blank sheet: no gear, abilities, passives, nada.

LE: For clarity's sake, this is on PC.

3

u/snotten @Infected 1d ago

Yeah, that or just beaming up/down is also a quick fix.

1

u/DueScreen7143 2d ago

Ah, cool.

Thank you.

Is it just me or has the latest weekly service maintenance messed up graphics performance for the PC version? Ever since then my game seems all stuttery.

1

u/tampered_mouse 1d ago

I've seen configurations getting reset, i.e. make sure the multithreaded rendering is OFF. At least for me this option caused weird visual stuttering like flying a ship in a circle and seeing repeated hickups (which were not caused by lag). That also happened after a maintenance / update cycle at least once. If it is not that ... could be almost anything, i.e. going through options and enabling/disabling one thing (in the game but also things that changed outside of it) is needed (and tons of patience for it ...). Good luck!

1

u/Lr0dy @enkemen 1d ago

Counterpoint: I haven't had an issue with multi threaded rendering, and I'm running on a reasonably modern computer (7800X3D, RTX3070).

I'm looking for the name of a specific console weapon, that I had installed on my KDF Bird of Prey T6 X2, but somehow lost when I tried out a different ship and went back to my BoP (I'm a new player and might have discarded it by accident. I cant find it on any of my other ships, bank, or nothing).

Item description: You start off with a count of 6, and when you activate, roughly twelve bright white, flair-like, torpedoes shoot toward the target. The counter goes down to zero, and increases by one roughly every 30 seconds. If you activate the weapon on one, 2 "white torpedoes" will fire; counter on 2 = 4 torpedoes; 3 = 6 torpedoes etc...

It's not the Spatial Charge Launcher - Universal Console. Thanks in advance!

Has the 15th anniversary giveaway been announced?

6

u/The_Trekspert USS Chin'toka 2d ago

No.

I’m guessing either end of this week or next week based on the Red Alert timing.

1

u/stegasp 2d ago

Thanks! Much appreciated!

1

u/The_Trekspert USS Chin'toka 2d ago

Sure thing!

u/Iselkractokidz 3d ago

On PS5, and this is probably obvious, but is there a way to display my currently active space buffs? There doesn’t appear to be a simple way of displaying them in the UI. I have the Eleos console and can never remember if I’ve activated the buff or not.

2

u/Free_Clerk223 2d ago

Yeah unfortunately we can't see any buffs or debuffs on console

2

u/Iselkractokidz 2d ago

Seems like a rather significant oversight.

2

u/DreadBert_IAm 1d ago

Heh, throw it in the bucket with no carrier modes (while we have doffs for them) and the deca-gaggle of consoles and skills we can't setup auto fire conditions for. It's weirdly unpolished for it's age.

2

u/AscenDevise 1d ago

It's not an oversight at all. If they didn't know what they were doing while working on the port, they 100% knew what they did when they delivered the finished product. Console STO is a gimped product (seriously, how are you going to port something that has people constantly going through and tracking literal dozens of abilities and more literal dozens of buffs and debuffs and make that work on a gamepad?) that demands the same amount of money, while offering significantly less - and add to that the financial conundrum with M$ and $ony that led to them not being able to add a Zen stipend to the console LTS, because that wasn't bad enough.

2

u/Scoustar 3d ago

It’s really annoying how the Elios console buffs don’t highlight on console like they do on PC, meaning the only way you can really tell is by picking out the rings orbiting your ship, broken into 3 colours if you have all 3 running

Is it worth dropping a fore weapon for a torpedo to get the extra 10% bonus all damage from Eclectic Collector of Armaments?

I don't usually build out for torps, so at most I'll have TS1 for torp support.

1

u/Annemarie30 3d ago

depends on the torpedo. if you were adding the dark matter torpedo and the lorca console, or the wide angle dbb if it's a phaser build, you are adding a 2 pc set in addition to your other unlock. Ditto the biomolecular torpedo and the hydrodynamic console, that's a 7.5% phaser disruptor plasma tetryon boost from the 2 pc

1

u/cheapshotfrenzy CONSOLE PLAYER, HERE!!! 2d ago

So this specific build is a phaser build. WADBB, Narrow phaser array, Terran rep phaser array, and prolonged engagement torp up front. Protostar omni, obliviating omni, and Gamma rep turret in rear. Hexa cannons as the experimental.

1

u/Annemarie30 2d ago

drop one of the omnis and put the pahvan one in if you got it

2

u/Fluffy_Somewhere4305 PS5 platform:sloth::partyparrot: 3d ago

Things to consider -

  • Do you have 5 front weapons or 4?
  • Which torp are you considering slotting in?
  • Will it use High Yield or Spread?
  • Does using HY or spread impact the other Boff seating?
  • Do you have a spare Command lt Cmd seat for Conc Firepower III that you might as well use since it's not a critical boff seat taken up by something else?

1

u/cheapshotfrenzy CONSOLE PLAYER, HERE!!! 3d ago
  • usually 4/3/1 ships. Risian Corvette, Fleet Saber, sometimes the Eleos
  • I like the prolonged engagement torp. Relatively quick reload and 180° arc makes it fun for bobbing and weaving through enemies.
  • probably just TS1 if anything
  • Nope, not really
  • No. Maybe someday I'll get the Legendary T'Liss, but not until then

Starship trait unlocks, are they character or account wide? Specifically for bought/reward ships you have to level

5

u/Ad3506 3d ago

The traits you get as the 6th Mastery reward on Legendary ships are account-unlocks.
All other Starship trait unlocks are per-character unlocks.

4

u/DeadeyeElephant 3d ago

I think the only account unlocks are the special traits on legendaries

2

u/GiftGrouchy 2d ago

Unless I’m mistaken, aren’t X and X2 upgrades also account upgrades as well?

2

u/Earthtopian 4d ago

My crappy piloting is killing my DPS. How do I improve my flying skills?

2

u/Lahm0123 2d ago

Not optimal maybe, but I realized I don’t really like flying with cannons or dual beams. All my ships use beam arrays and maybe a torpedo. Well, except my torpsci dude.

Use FAW3, BO3, or SS3 with TS3. Upgrade the weapons. Build with proper abilities and there are zero issues.

u/neuro1g 3d ago

Practice, practice, practice makes perfect. This involves setting up your ability tray well, and keep your ability rotation going through combat. Whether you do this by clicking or keybinds is up to you. Then it's a matter of positioning your ship in the right places at the right times and understanding your opponent's abilities.

1

u/Earthtopian 3d ago

I've seen in a few cases that people get into position and then come to a full stop. I tried it in a run of ninth rule, and it worked to improve how fast I was blowing up enemies, but my forward arc shields got completely shredded and I had to make a retreat once or twice to save myself

2

u/DreadBert_IAm 1d ago

If you unlocked the vovin over the summer, it's console is real handy for that. Not just cannon boats either. My sci and sci carriers running grav well 3 I spend most of the match at 1/4 or less throttle. By the time everything is dead console is off cooldown and good to teleport to another see okmed enemy group.

0

u/Earthtopian 1d ago

Unfortunately, I've missed a few events because I took a break from the game.

I've seen in a few cases that people get into position and then come to a full stop.

Yes, that's called park'n'shoot and is what most people do at the high-end.

but my forward arc shields got completely shredded

That's typically what Tactical Team is used for. You could also keybind Redistribute Shields, or keep clicking on your shield/hull icon UI thing to do it manually. Reverse Shield Polarity is also good for this if you can slot it. The Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator from the T3 Valdore is also great for keeping shields up while park'n'shooting. Once you're good enough though, things will die before you really need to worry about the damage your taking.

Ninth Rule, and all the other timed patrols with endless waves, are poor benchmarks for testing builds and piloting, IMO. Even on elite, many of my builds can clear a wave in mere seconds, sending in another wave and yet another wave, and yet another wave. But then, even with all my great ability and console cooldown, after 5-6 waves eventually everything is going to be on cooldown and I have to peel away regardless or I'll die. There's really no way around it. Even builds I use to solo ISE will blow up on ninth rule because the endless waves have just made me use up literally everything I have at my disposal to kill or stay alive. So, in that respect you're not alone.

Better patrols to test your piloting and builds are Japori (an old benchmark map), Strike at Sedea, the Jupiter Gauntlets, and Wanted. Just know that if you're in a timed/endless wave patrol, that you more than likely need to eventually back off to let everything get off cooldown.

1

u/Earthtopian 3d ago

I actually did Japori and Wanted and saw significantly better results, and that explains why. I mainly do ninth rule for the large amount of loot drops that I can sell off for EC

PC: someone gave me a tossel cap and I can't seem to use it. Popped the box and it isn't showing up anywhere. Help?

4

u/Cymiril 4d ago

Change the category of your head. Should be a drop-down under the head section to change to hats

2

u/Metrichex 3d ago

That was my problem. Thank you!
