Name of the folding pocket pad that paperwork goes into?
When I hired on my rr company surprisingly gave me a really neat longer hard shelled pad that you can open and place 2 sets of paperwork in it to read. And close and put in your side pocket.
Fit right into your pant pocket and when switching pull it out, open and it’s covered from the elements.
It’s not the “condoms” you can get at walmart.
Does anyone know the name? Mine broke and of course they don’t have anymore and I’ve googled search “folding pocket pad” etc etc for work orders etc and get nothing.
Anyone know the name for those?
Thnx.

Navigating the SAP Process for DOT Compliance – Here to Share Insights
Hey everyone, I know how stressful it can be when you’re sidelined due to a DOT violation, especially when it comes to the SAP process. Many drivers aren’t sure where to start or how to get back on the road.
As a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) familiar with the DOT return-to-duty process, I’ve seen firsthand how confusing it can be. If anyone has questions about how the SAP process works or what steps are involved, feel free to ask. I’m here to provide guidance and clear up any confusion.
Whether it’s understanding the evaluation process, treatment recommendations, or how to complete follow-up testing, I’m happy to help explain it.
Stay safe out there!

Question Questions about PTC and signals from a simmer
I lurk here a lot because I like seeing the knowledge being shared by you professionals in the industry.
I'm wondering what exactly PTC does. I used to think it was a punctual signal/speed enforcement system - applies penalty braking if a signal is violated or a speed limit is exceeded - but from what I've been reading from some of you, it apparently is able to do more. What all does it do, beyond simply plugging the brakes every time it thinks you're wrong? I assume it also handles movement authority? Can it show route information such as grades? For those of you who are relatively familiar to ETCS systems like PZB90, how would you compare it?
Concerning signals, I am wondering what advance warning you might get for a Restricting or Stop indication. For example would it be Clear > Approach Restricting > Restricting? Or would you generally know what is coming several blocks ahead (i.e., Clear > Approach Medium > Approach Restricting > Restricting)?
Appreciate what you guys do, it's a thankless job and without you our economy would grind to a halt.

L.A. Railroaders- Y’all OK?
With these devastating fires, I’m wondering how y’all are faring. How have operations been impacted? For railroaders impacted (lost homes, evacuee displacements, etc) what are your companies doing to support? I’ve been watching the BN & UP websites for updates on operation impacts, support funds for those impacted, etc. but haven’t seen anything.
My heart goes out to not only the railroaders, but anyone being impacted.

Substance identification
galleryCan anyone shed light on what this material could be? Appears to be some kind of lubricating grease? Specific information about the composition would be useful. Is it common for this material to end up around the tracks? Thanks in advance.

Discussion What is happening to us railroaders (Vent)
I work for cpkc Mexico Sub (missouri) and when i open Google, youtube or even reddit there is a new derailment on the news or a redditor posts about a new one. It seems like something goes wrong every day. I've seen that these derailments keep increasing (big and small) preventable or not. It makes me nervous when I sit on my conductor seat and I dont know what is around the corner when I'm going 50 to 70 mph or I see a large object bigger than the engine I'm in come over the horizon and all i can do is see the large object get bigger and bigger. My friend is also nervous who works on the Norfolk southern St Louis sub. I know most of this is stupid people who cause these but what what do you guys thing about this matter and what is your close calls?

Collision
What are you supposed to do after hitting a person or vehicle. Apply emergency brakes what's next. The rule book doesn't have any steps after applying air. What do you do when police show up? I was told never give them your driver license. What do you say?
Are there any federal laws protecting you from police and refusing ID?

Disability
Been at this Class 1 almost two years and haven’t worked since April of last year because of a accident (crossing-collision). Had surgery a couple days ago that didn’t go as planned because of complications and the doc basically said there was nothing else he could do. Do you think I would be able to draw disability if I could never work for them again ?
