I just don't know how stupid you should be if you're thinking this release is ok and people will eat it. Ofc it's a money disaster and TornBanner already fired most of the NMRIH team, which were working on a game since 2022 including art designers and the composer Garret Linguist known as "Thought'" which composed almost every non-ambient track for the first game.

What the hell went wrong though. The early look at gameplay footage looked vastly different than the slop that they cobbled together for the release.

Torn Banner wanted to revolutionize something that didn't need it, much like a lot of gamedev nowadays. Always trying to make something new and inferior instead of looking back at what worked and what is very fondly remembered, not just from NMRIH1 but many other games made at the time as well. Also because the game was entirely reworked more or less under a year right after TB gained full access. Scrapping original work done on the game. Why? I dunno, maybe quick profit because of how gullible a modern gamer is and an apparent epidemic of Stockholm Syndrome towards scummy publisher and/or devs.

Just a case of devs lacking creative control and freedom to make the game they wanted. Many of these studios that are trying to "make it big" are falling into a very terrible trap that makes them think that next gen graphics will make the game really good. So now, more time is spent trying to optimize the game with a shiny new game engine, instead of working on features and mechanics that make the game fun for the original niche player-base.

Publishers and their greed are ruining games for everyone, even the people making them, the devs were forced to switch to the new UE5 engine and forced to push out an unfinished game as soon as possible.

Now, this is where kickback from the community led to poor game design and user experience. The sequel was more fast paced featuring rootin tootin shootin and bunnyhops and no infection chance. Now that they are changing features, it becomes an impossible deformed mess, where you still expect players to play fast paced but, players are forced to slow down and be more careful, all while being expected to hold off waves upon waves of runners.

Originally was being made on UE4, and Torn Banner made them switch to UE5. I've heard that caused some problems.

TB made them switched to UE5. Apparently, everything was really close to being finished, yet they were forced to switch to UE5.
