“I Wear My Sunglasses at Night” is a song about needing to wear shades while driving in Nashville after dark because no one turns their fucking brights off Discussion
Link because it’s genuinely a banger

And new leds are insane, but feel ya dawg
37
u/Chris__P_Bacon Dec 07 '24
It was worse when all those assholes were installing aftermarket HID Kits into their stock halogen housings about 15 years ago. Shit would blind you for 3 or 4 seconds. The LEDs are bad, that they aren't THAT bad.

u/Advanced-Character86 Dec 07 '24
God help you if you’re driving a sedan because 75% of the other drivers are in some kind of pickup or SUV and their lights are right at eye level.

I drive an '01 Focus. I love that little shitbox, but it has made me exceedingly hateful of everyone else because I'm constantly blinded.
22
u/Chris__P_Bacon Dec 07 '24
Oh it's terrible! I drive a little Civic, and their lights are right in my freaking eyes.
3
u/MikeOKurias Dec 07 '24
They make aftermarket electrochromic rearview mirrors for Civics. So awesome.
16
u/Dawnspark Dec 07 '24
And god help you if you're light sensitive by any definition of the word.
I legitimately can't drive at night thanks to the sheer amount of dickheads with insane brights.
If I do, I have to straight up stop driving eventually cause the lights trigger some of the worst migraines I have ever had.
I am not someone prone to road rage, but jfc the brights get me damn near close.

u/Majestic-Homework720 Dec 07 '24
I’m so glad to hear someone else say this. I thought I was alone. I thought only old ladies didn’t drive at night, but I was wrong. I’m not old but I’m about to be one of those people who don’t drive at night. I get such a headache and by the time I get home I’m in such a bad mood and still seeing dark spots. I road rage just to get home faster so that I can stop being blinded.

Now they're installing Temu LEDs in stock halogen housings. Fuckin degens.

They actually emit a tone of blue that one’s pupils don’t react to, so the retina gets a full blast of light

I flashed a guy how was running his brights last winter. He busted a U-Turn, followed me to my house, got out and proceeded to tell me that the reason he was running his high beams was because his low beams were burned out and I needed to be considerate. Like.... fix your car??
7
u/n0rdic 12 South Dec 07 '24
lol I can't possibly imagine spending my time following someone home to yell at them for a small call out when I'm objectively doing something wrong.
I get having an issue with your car like that and not being able to get it fixed immediately, but man if you're doing the crime just accept that you're gonna get some criticism.

u/demigod2923 Dec 08 '24
Like, it’s not even that difficult to replace a lamp. If I can do it, anyone can 🤦🏻♀️

u/extraguacontheside Dec 07 '24
Either their brights are blasting or they don't bother turning them on.
17
u/gingerdacat Dec 07 '24
Yes…I see way too many with no lights on.

u/System0verlord I Voted! Dec 07 '24
This was just me pulling out onto the road. Luckily I caught myself. In my defense, my car doesn’t have automatic headlights, and I had been driving down a lit street so I didn’t notice until there wasn’t a light.

u/_pepperoni-playboy_ Dec 07 '24
It all fits in to the general idea of “other people will compensate by driving responsibly so I don’t have to”

Now I try to make all my long distance trips to my destination before the sunsets. Those lights are so fatiguing. I feel my energy just deplete and I need a coffee stat. In the city it is fine. I just flip all my mirrors in and hope they pass me soon. I’m sure they can see me do it with their obnoxious headlights

I drive about 500 miles a night in a semi and it doesn’t matter what kind of car has their brights on. I can see them and nothing else. If they’re behind me I can see them in my mirrors and nothing else. But if i flashed my highbeams on to tell them to turn theirs off I could get a ticket. My highbeams also turn on the sun.

u/tiltedslim Old Hickory Dec 07 '24
But the truck guys with light bars on the front and lights on their tires that are eye level to normal vehicles? Them I hate.
I drive a Kia Soul. The tall trucks (most all of them now) are the almost the worst.
0
u/mkitchin Dec 07 '24
If people are flashing their brights at you once a day, maybe you have an issue with your car. Even with factory lights, the angle is adjustable on each light. Perhaps one of them is pointing too high. You can point them at a wall in the dark while parked on a flat ground and see if something seems off. Or maybe get them looked at at a shop.
5
u/ComprehensiveInjury7 Dec 07 '24
Fog lights?
Why in the holy hell does everyone turn these on when it gets dark? And yes, turn off the high beams when you see oncoming traffic. Let’s be civil to each other on the road (esp those of us who still have a modicum of night vision left…)
3
u/vh1classicvapor east side Dec 07 '24
Fog lights are normally at the bottom though. Do you mean the bar lights at the top of a truck?
1
u/ComprehensiveInjury7 8d ago
No no..
Every light possible is on. Fog’s are at the bottom and on a disproportionate amt of the time (ie city driving, no precip or fog). Anyone who turns on headache light rack (should be charged a criminal offense) when driving on a street w streetlights and road markers….
1
u/ericnear Goodlettsville Dec 07 '24
I use my fog lights when I need a little extra light. But I’ve also noticed that my brights are not as bright as some of these low beams they’re out there selling.
4
u/Huge-Ad-3126 Dec 07 '24
The amount of people that casually drive with their high beams on is crazy. At first I thought it was a joke but I’ve taken multiple Ubers with high beams on for the whole ride. Wild and very dangerous if you have a sedan

u/tamaith Dec 07 '24
Twice I was flashed brights tonight on my way home, I do not drive with my brights on, I promise. My regular factory installed headlights are enough and that is probably the problem in the first place, I am sorry.
2
u/Kelliente Bellevue 29d ago
Yes, this happens to me too. Brights are not on, but I get flashed. I flash my brights back to basically say hey, these aren't my brights.
They are manufacturing cars with lights the power of the sun, and the driver has no control. My car won't even let me turn lights off while the car is in drive, so if I pull up to a restaurant patio or someone's house at night, there's no way to be considerate - I'm blinding everyone until it's in park because the car won't let me do otherwise.
1
u/tamaith 29d ago
I am pretty sure it is projection lenses, meeting on a hilltop or if my car is a bit higher like on a bridge, or in a right hand corner they will get the full concentrated beam right in the face. The lights can only be so bright by law but they got efficient with them, and that is what is so strange. It is all the angle and projection going on.
Even considered getting those little old school chrome bits for them to block out the top half. I have 4 headlights, and high beams are all 4 lit up.

u/BunnyLocke Dec 07 '24
Screaming. I wear them whenever I go out instead of doing my makeup. I’m a server, I hustle tell people I’m in my Endless Summer Vacation era, and Miley is from Franklin soooooo

Sorry yes, I also, turn your brights off on the road people, and slow down

I am also of the age, and I’m IN LOVE with her! Check out Jaded music video, she looks SO beautiful, just strutting, showing her ex husband what he is MISSING! I love it. Bout’ to watch it now! Also, the song is an ABSOLUTE banger. Also River music video from this era! So slept on for real.

The solution is easy. Safety squint. It worked for Mr Magoo it can work for you too.

u/fbeemcee Dec 07 '24
I have serious light sensitivity, and I hate how bright my headlights are. (And most newer cars are the same way.) Lots of people flash me because they think I have my brights on. When my brights are on, I’m lighting up people’s yards. It’s insanity.

I bought a new car with the leds in 23 and in my neighborhood on the drive home from the dealership I got flashed by a passed. They just roll off the factory so bright it's stupid.

I don’t know but people are constantly flashing theirs at me thinking mine are on when they are not. I try to flash my brights back at them when they do that. So many people can’t even tell.

A lot of newer cars have automatic brights that come on at night when no oncoming vehicles are detected. The idiot driver has to disable them.

Ive had enough, think I’m going to get some brighter bulbs tonight. In a standard F150, factory and getting blinded still by those with tinted fucking windshield.
6k Headlights, 6k Brights and 6k fog lights. $400 pissed away to flash these fuckers back.

Hate to say it ....but a lot of them are immigrants that don't know any better. All they know, is that they can see better with their brights on, and can't understand why everyone is flashing their lights at them

Another one of these posts eh? Yeah newer cars have brighter lights. When you get a newer car you’ll stop noticing it because your lights will be brighter and still work. When I drive my old shit box it’s amazing how much worse the glare is. It sucks but it is what it is. Or you can make another post about how dumb Nashville is and get hate points
