Which multitool has the best scissors? Recommendation Request

Looking for the best multitool for use on sites that don't allow traditional knives. Need the biggest/strongest scissors instead, along with the usual multitool utility (especially the pliers). It's OK if the tool still has a knife on it, just need the scissors for actual use on site.

Check out the Roxon lineup. They've got THE BEST scissors, especially on the Phantom multitool, which also has ~18 different knife/tool options that you can hotswap. The 501U is also great if you just need scissors and any one of those same 18 knife options.

Hard to beat Roxons massive scissors, I think for detail work you can make an argument for Victorinox still but yea

The answer is Roxon, but not the modular ones because those scissors are just ok.

Roxon KS2E. Uncanny how strong they are.

victorinox undoubtedly make the best scissors on a multi tool, nothing comes close in my experience. Beautifully crafted, the fit and finish is exceptional. There are two primary models that come with a few different options and colours.

Victorinox SwissTool. Buy once, cry once. If you live in country where getting warranty return is a hassle, can't go wrong with victorinox. Do testing at shop first, though.

Don't go for Swiss Spirit X, the scissor have a small opening and inverted cutting blade. Other than that, it can cut fine..

Boker TechTools are like higher end SAK's with a hollow ground main blade, better steel and G10 scales available in different colors and stuff. I have 4 of them, the thick one has pliers and big scissors better than any of my Swiss Armies. Granted I only have a few SAK's but I've lost more than I own over my life. I ordered Phillips head bits from Boker USA to replace the corkscrews on the 2 that came with them. It fits perfectly where the corkscrew would normally go. Also I have one with GiTD scales I got from CountyComm a while back. That main blade is a slicer and it still has a decent flat head/prybar and a serrated cutter with a small flat head tip. They even make them with the punch/sewing awl. Bunch of different versions and they're usually cheap on Amazon, like 40$-50$ unless they suddenly get popular again. Then they're 70-80$

Also they are as stainless as it gets in a blade that will actually keep an edge. I literally wash them with soap and water, blow out with an electric computer duster and thats about it for maintenance. Screw on pocket clip so you can have it or not. The big one with everything is kind of the house tool for my Family and they haven't broken one yet, for like 10 years. Boker actually sent me the phillips head bits twice, on them, 1st ones disappeared in the mail. They just don't always have them, I checked back monthly until they did. Anyone that likes SAK's would like these. Only down side is no tweezers or toothpick.

I have the sanrenmu clone of one of the techtools. Despite the blade steel being better I would not say they are necessarily higher end, since the spring moves quite a bit on either the pliers or the scissors.

They are not bad for the price though.

I've seen the clones, there's one with carbon fiber or carbon maybe just carbon look scales but I thought I remembered a different brand name. Anyway I'm not personally familiar with them. But being a clone they could be anywhere from terrible to superior. I do like the Bokers though, maybe I just got a good one but the scissors fell nice and precise and the pliers don't jiggle. They aren't a replacement for a full size multitool though. But they are a lot smaller, even the thick one with the pliers and scissors. They may make even more versions but I havent looked at then in a while. I'd definitely recommend the Boker versions to friends though. And I probably have a dozen multitools from Gerbers and Sogs to a few of the higher end Leathermans.

The Roxon definitely it has genuinely a great pair of scissors.

Roxon S501U. You can change the blade out for a file or saw etc. The scissors rock. For something smaller, the best folding scissors on the market are the Roxon M3.

The Victorinox SwissTool MX Clip has the best scissors IMO. What I like about them is that they come sharp as razor blades, have zero blade play, and have a very satisfying springy-ness to the scissoring action. The only downside I can think of is that I'd like them to be 0.25'' longer.

Leatherman Surge or Free series (Arc, P2, P4).

I’ve used my Surge scissors almost every day at work for last 5 years in industrial settings. Still cuts great every time. I have been wanting a larger pair of scissors so I just ordered a Roxon. Never had one so hopefully they’re nice. They were super cheap but good reviews on this Reddit sub.

My Nextool Flagship Pro has fantastic scissors. The rest of the toolset is kind of meh, better choices could have been made IMO, but the scissors, pliers and blade are all great.

3

u/The_Inflicted Nov 18 '24

NexTool should make a version of that tool that deletes the stupid small implements with a 1/8 driver.

1

u/MaximumDerpification Nov 18 '24

Yep. I'd even settle for a better selection of integrated tools and a screwdriver that doesn't have a bottle opener molded into it making it too big to slot into screw holes (honestly this is my biggest gripe!)

Leatherman Raptor is a scissors based tool. Can't get better for pure cutting power, but they're not ideal for small tasks.

Leatherman Surge has medium sized scissors.

Leatherman Charge/wave has small scissors. Ideal for grooming etc

I recommend Leatherman still, because the company has done me well over the years and I don't want them to be outpaced by the new kids on the block.

I can also recommend Victorinox swiss army knife scissors... Imo they're the best scissors on the market for general purpose scissoring. But they're often not on pliers based tool, so that's the sacrifice. Do your research and I'm sure you'll find something that suits your needs.

(I don't trust the durability of the modular tools yet, but in time I might suggest those as well.)

Nextool mini scissor model has been great. Most of the other tools on the sailor are hot trash, though. The knife is just ok

Klein electrical scissors beat anything on a multitool. Full stop.

2

u/Navanod66 Nov 18 '24

Another vote for Roxon. S501U or KS2E

2

u/Rainboy97 Nov 18 '24

Definitely Roxon KS2E. Better than any other multitool scissors, PERIOD.

u/Fun_Resource_157 Nov 18 '24

Nextorch mt20. This thing is a beast. No way victorinox or leather man even close. U guys talking out from Ur ass.

u/New_Mutation Nov 18 '24

If you want pliers and the best scissors on a multitool, the only choice is the Victorinox SwissTool X.

1

u/NecessaryAssumption4 Nov 18 '24

Scissors, knives, tools, etc. victorinox make the best multitools

1

u/sleepdog-c Nov 18 '24

Leatherman raptor better than any other multitool

1

u/seakind Nov 18 '24

Roxon flex (modular multitool) or ks2e (look this up, when you see the scissors, you won't buy Leatherman or victorinox) And they are cheaper, but not worse

u/Meteranmen Nov 18 '24

Leatherman wingmano

1

u/Big-Ad-3838 Nov 18 '24

What about that Leatherman that actually is scissors? Like EMT Sheers with some other things and they fold up smaller than EMT sheers. Haven't looked at them for a while so I can't remember what else they do. Probably stuff like a glass breaker, seatbelt cutter and idk what else. Not sure if you're allowed a blade or not for your purpose or if it has one. Also there are knockoffs if the originals out of your price range, its been around a while now.

I was a dedicated Leatherman nut for a VERY long time, as in adopting the PST in the late 80's before it was even called the PST. I always used belt pouches so I always went for full sized tools. The Core, the Super Tool 300 and then the Surge. But I always wondered why Leatherman never made a full sized folding scissors. I would sometimes carry the full sized tool along with a Micra. I was a Micra fan for years until I found the Roxon M3.

Sadly, Leatherman is no longer the king with the surge, as several clones from China are much cheaper for exactly the same thing and offer full sized hex bits which are better than the proprietary flat bits of Leatherman. Similarly the scissors on the Micra do not cut para-cord like the Roxon M3 does. Yes, the Surge and its clones have scissors, but the handles are necessarily skinny to fold into the handle. The Roxon M3, and others I believe, have significantly wider handles and thus are much more comfortable.

Scissor wise, roxon is awesome.

I love my old Toolzall Maintenance Pro shears, they snip zip ties like nothing and have an okay knife blade as well.

1

u/DwayneAlton Nov 23 '24

Any of the Roxon tools with the larger sized scissors are fantastic. Best I’ve ever scene. So you can get a full sized multitool (80x series), a knife-sized multitool (K2), or a simple knife/scissor combo from them.
