Nice brunch/lunch spot for Saturday? 🥄food /restaurants /gastronomy
I’m coming to London tomorrow with my wife and two adult children, to visit my mother and take her out for lunch.
I’m hoping someone can recommend a nice spot we can go.
Looking for…
- nice and comfortable (not a diner)
- traditional lunch or brunch menu
- doesn’t need to be cheap but also not +$100 /person
My mother lives in the north east part of the city, so not having to drive too far south or west would be great, but would for the right place.
Thanks!
Update: Thanks a lot for everyone’s recommendations. A couple I’ve been to, but many I’ve never tried and will in the future.
Was going to do Ironwood, but they’re not open for lunch/brunch on Saturdays, so we’ll try Malibu tomorrow and save Ironwood for another time.
Regardless, I’m saving this thread for the future! I appreciate everyone’s input.

Idlewyld inn. Not inexpensive but food quality is good and atmosphere is very nice. Brunch is Sunday only but there is a lunch menu with lots of options.

Pur and simple is DELICIOUS! There’s a south and north location, it’s my favourite spot currently!

Checkout the Ironwood on Highbury and Kilally! Nice place for a brunch. Local ingredients. Nice mamosa and much better than a diner.

Cappadocia Breakfast & Cafe on Gainsborough Rd might fit the bill. Very unique and classy spot.

I agree and wanted to suggest the same, but have a feeling they'd have a long wait without a rezzo on a Sunday during the holidays.

The Bag Lady Variety is great! Very kitschy and fantastic food, large portions.

James Place is nice, but if you're on the other end of town up Wellington way, toward Exeter, you could go for Vic's, or South Side. IIRC the family that owns South Side is related to the James Place folks.

OP said their mother lives in the north east part of town which is why I recommended it

I love many of the other suggestions, but noticed many are also diners so here's a few restaurants not mentioned yet that don't have the diner vibe:
Morrissey House
Delta Armouries Grille
Family Circle
Blackfriars Bistro
Mai's Cafe
Anderson Craft Ales (ETA I think it's only Sunday they do brunch)
Apparently the airport restaurant Katana Cafe has breakfast too, but I haven't tried it yet!

Exactly south west...but worth it. Craft Farmacy does a great brunch. I haven't looked at their holiday hours though.

Many have recommended diners FYI. I would consider the Malibu a diner for sure. There are quite a few options along Fanshawe Road. Especially around Masonville mall. If you google that area you’ll see the options then you can take a look at menu’s, pictures, and prices.

Kelsey’s on Oxford/Cheapside or Archie’s on Huron/Highbury but I guess you’d call it a diner restaurant place. My family enjoyed the varied menu there but haven’t been for a couple years.
