I love how I can almost still feel the zapper in my hand and hear the clicking, after looking at this picture.

u/AbsentApe Jun 18 '23

That click and the spring going twang! Holy shit...

Nah. The Zapper is its great-great-grandadddy.

And we have come full circle. Can’t wait to see how these $2500 headsets look when they turn piss yellow…

I'm laughing like the dog in Duck Hunt.

I will 100% buy a Vision Pro if someone makes a zapper and there’s a “Time Crisis”-style game.

I wanna pew pew in the pretend place.

What’s funny about this?

Don't you get it? Both are grey and look basically the same. /s

I was wondering that too. It's perhaps something for /r/midlyinteresting or something, but it's not comedic in any way is it?

It's perhaps something for /r/midlyinteresting or something

Not even. Use in conjunction with a headset would render the Zapper completely useless.

The entire point of the Zapper was that it mattered where you aimed it, because it took its cues from the screen.

With a headset, there is no screen, which means the Zapper can't do shit.

"Hey, here's 2 pieces of gray plastic. They can't work together. They have nothing to do with each other. But they're both gray plastic." is no closer to /r/mildlyinteresting than it is to /r/funny.

To this day we still get excited to see that gun.

2

u/Lunarbutt Jun 18 '23

In AR mode you need a real gun.

"Augment this reality, bitch!" pew

u/77entropy Jun 19 '23

How do you plug these together and play goldeneye?

2

u/AssCanyon Jun 19 '23

Of course it has a dongle

Apple will never be as cool as Nintendo!

2

u/JuniorWMG Jun 18 '23

Apple never was "cool".

1

u/Jeoshua Jun 18 '23

I don't see it.

One of these is a beautiful, understated piece of audio-visual wizardry, destined to revolutionize what we think of as entertainment, for decades to come.

The other is made by Apple.

I mean it's Apple. Their design department is not known for being "opposed to inspiration"

Remember Plastic Mans Goggles?

“Halliday’s favorite first person shooter?”

1

u/janimbx Jun 19 '23

poor Jony Ive, why Apple tortures him(us)?

The people who played with that thing are the ones designing the new stuff
