tw: ed & t-1 d Mental Health

i’m a newly diagnosed t1 (2.5 months) and having a lot of issues with having to focus on food, carb counting, and keeping my blood sugar steady. i have a history of ed, and when i was diagnosed my weight dropped to around 114. i’m typically around 140 or so and muscular.

does anyone else struggle with their body image after getting diagnosed and taking insulin? i’ve gained back 30 pounds since my hospitalization and while i know it’s healthy and my body is taking in nutrients now, my brain is very upset at me for it.

things i’m doing to help: i’m looking for therapist options, but haven’t found anyone for what i need yet. i’ve seen a couple nutritionists, but they are all telling me i’m doing amazing and plan great meals etc. i don’t feel like i’m doing amazing.

i’ll take any advice, book recs, social media account suggestions, etc that you think may help. :( thank you!

I have anorexia as well as T1. It's been hard. You should ask your Endo for a referral/suggestion as to where to go. My Endo sent me to a diabetes trainer and a dietician that is in the same office as the trainer. We've all been working together to keep me out of treatment for the 4th time. I also have a therapist that deals with EDs and I've taught her the ropes of T1 so she understands what I'm talking about and my struggles

your team sounds great! i may need to look for a new endo as mine has been just ok. she’s not super responsive and when i’ve come to her with issues/questions she usually just orders labs or sends a referral to another dept - like nutrition. the trainer sounds really helpful - i’ll definitely ask about that!!

thank you so much and hey i’m proud of us for working on all this at once! it’s a lot.
