The reason teachers want "Less Time With Students" is becasue they used to get times to do the actual prep for teaching where paid resource workers covered things like Detention, study hall, lunches, etc. They eliminated all those positions and took the time they needed to do the job their being paid for and forced them to do someone else's without any more money.
On that note, it should also be said that teachers want fewer metrics mostly because standardized written exams are really not necessarily the best way to gauge the skills and learning capabilities of all children. It's a tricky issue but ultimately, it's just outdated and we should be looking for better ways to gauge how childrens learning process can be better individualized, although it's hard with education being chronically underfunded.
