Visiting cape cod

I came on here earlier to ask a question about transportation but now i’m back with another question some of the people i’ve talked to have said going to Cape cod the first week of may is a bad idea since everything is closed but our vacation time only allows us to go the first or second week of may. Is there really an actual difference between the two. A friend of mine who goes to martha’s vineyard said the second week of may is way better. any insight

Keep your New Year's Health Resolution on the Cape

Someone messaged me about the dating thread. I have been a lifelong athlete, so I'd like to offer my heartfelt advice to anyone out there who wants to improve their health (and dating prospects, if applicable).

Step 1 Log Your Food. My Fitness Pal, Lose It!, and my personal favorite Chronometer are outstanding apps to get your calorie situation under control. Do not underfeed yourself. You need calories for activity. Nutrition alone is 80% of the battle. A kitchen scale is very helpful.

If you don't know where to start calorically, talk to a pro. Never starve yourself.

Try to get your carbs down.

Step 2 Start Walking. AllTrails and Trailforks will have you adventuring! There are so many gorgeous hikes on Cape Cod. Start small. Just walk 1 mile a day and build from there. Tired? Take it easy and/or add 100 more calories.

Step 3 Get People Involved. Accountability is huge. My mind is geared around athleticism, but it takes time for your brain to crave health. Find a buddy. Maybe it's a mentor. Maybe you are the mentor. Tell everyone you know that you want a hike buddy. Follow up.

Step 4 Throw out the Scale. Recomposition doesn't necessarily mean gains or loses of weight. It means changing the distribution of fat and muscle and flushing bloat. Your belt will tell you that you are progressing.

Step Five Avoid Burnout. Walking is pretty easy especially if you add in audiobooks! Libby is a free app from the library. You can learn as you go.

Step Six. Water, water, water! Get a few waterbottles and keep them full in a few places you typically are throughout the day.

Step Seven. Gear? If you need it and have the budget, gadgets these days are cool. They won't make you exercise, but you can track things. Seeing progress is motivating. The only thing that's non-negotiable is walking/hiking shoes.

Feeling good mind, body, and spirit is a wonderful place. Whether you have a partner or not, you can inhabit your body with grace, strength, and confidence.

As individuals age, it is crucial to stay active, limber, and retain muscle. Resistance bands are typically advised for older folks. Exercises that use your own body weight are also helpful. Not everyone is comfortable in a gym, but weight lifting is great! Figure out a way to incorporate it.

Here's one: Reach under your bed and get something that is under there in the exact middle. Do this once a week. Sounds weird, but it's a very good quick dynamic exercise.

There are some amazing athletes that live on Cape Cod. I see fit people into their 80s here all the time!!!

We have the National Seashore, the Cape Cod Rail Trail, tons of smaller conservation sites, the Canal, so many places to get outside and get moving. We are blessed. Bring your camera.

IF YOU ARE IN RECOVERY FOR ED: work with your supports to find the best way for you. Some people cannot log food without starting to starve.

This post is general advice. I am not your doctor, coach, therapist, lawyer, drinkin' pal, or spirit guide. Do what works for you.

Jewish deli (foods) on Cape? Where to buy

I miss Piccadilly Deli at Tucker Town Square in Hyannis. (Where GOL is now). They had a great deli counter you could get chicken liver pate, good pastrami, and tongue with swiss.

Is there anywhere that sells tongue or pate?? TIA!

I know the groceries carry fair pastrami and some have liverwurst. Where's an authentic soaked in juices hot pastrami sandwich?

Doctors - looking for recommendations

Looking for a few recommendations. I am moving back to the cape with my husband to be closer to my family again. I know finding healthcare is a nightmare, so I want to work on getting on waitlists now. Any recommendations for primary care doctors in the upper/mid cape area?

Bonus if you want to throw any good dentists, gynecologists, and a vet for the pup in there too!

Looking for Roomates but want to get to know you first!

Edit- I NEED to get to know you first before even considering. It's closer to west maine, one of the streets down pitchers I just don't want to DOX myself LOL or get murdered hahahah if that helps get an idea. I don't think our street is bad, but it's definitely not anywhere across from the mall or hiromar or something(LOL) apologies if you live there but everyones getting shot there for some reason @.@ I've lived here for 10 years and it's been safe here. Our neighbors are nice. The worst thing that happens down my road is someone on the street is doing construction for something lol. Or in the summer, sometimes you can hear the melody tent since we are fairly close(which sometimes IS awesome ngl.) xD Also no one that does drugs, please. If you smoke weed not the end of the world, but not in the house. Not just because partners dad and I would boot u if you smoked in the house, but it also literally flares one of my chronic illnesses and causes awful symptoms, so please none of that. We aren't looking for people whose entire lives revolves around pot either. Please.

We ARE looking for someone LONG term. If you're someone who is sexist or a jerk or just is super jugemental like, we aren't SNOWFLAKES but idk some people that contacted me were creepy pervs I looked at their profile and it was a nightmare so LOL You'd be sharing the bathroom downstairs with another roomate we get(which might be our buddy chris, just waiting to hear from him on the 18th, he's a great guy, served in the army, loves football, has worked with heavily disabled children, and is a gamer. We are looking to get someone in hopefully by the end of february but looking now!

Hi!! Me and my partner are 32/33 and looking for another roomate on cape! You would be living in the downstairs next to another room our friend chris might move into(If not him there WILL be another roomate in the other room!) Both people downstairs would share a bathroom, we share the upstairs bathroom(the upstairs is just our bedrooms and our bathroom :p)

One room is unfurnished the other has closet/large bed! looking for 600 a month with utilities--no pets please. (well like, large cat/dog pets kinda pets) lizards and fish or snakes or whatever is fine if you take care of them, just not ones that roam freely/ or birds(noisy lol)

But we were told my my partners dad(house owner) that we are renting out to that we need to find people we trust/ so It's crucial we vibe well/get to know eachother first before discussing possibility of moving in!

Just dm to ask questions we can get to know eachother a bit better and from there if we vibe I can see if you me and my partner can meet up and maybe show you the place to see if you are interested!

We are introverted nerds/gamers and we pretty much keep to ourselves. On the 18th we'll hear from our friend chris if he is moving in the other room, so if he is we can have you guys meet up to see if you are okay with eachother/comfortable sharing a bathroom!

Not sure if this okay to post/ cape cod hyannis, 40 min walk from mall! DM for more info/so we can chat! Feel free to go over any habits/ pet peeves or concerns with us too :p

Cape Cod or Montreal/Quebec City?

Hi Everyone. We live in Texas and leave in the summer for a couple of weeks due to the heat. We have a trip planned this summer in which we will be in Meredith, NH, Portland, ME, and then in Barnstable where we plan to stay the longest. From this line-up, we’ve only visited Portland and have been wanting to check out Cape Cod for a while now.

The lodging for this trip (as expected) is in the thousands and I’m reconsidering the trip all together or perhaps just skipping out on Barnstable and going north to Quebec City and Montreal. Do any of you prefer these areas in Canada over Barnstable? It’d save us a significant amount of money if we were to make this swap. Heck it’d cost the same amount for us to head to Spain with our children and be gone for the same amount of time.

Home for winter break

Hey everyone, I am home for winter break from college. I go back in a few weeks but it has felt kind of lonely being on the cape in the winter when most things to do out here are seasonal. Is anyone else feeling like this? Or does anybody have any recommendations for places to go/things to do on the Cape for people in their 20s? I do not really drink so something besides that?

Any suggestions for a post funeral lunch spot near the National Cemetery in Bourne? I did do a search and the last time this came up was two years ago and I know restaurants can change a lot in that amount of time.

Just 3 or 5 people so we do not need a function room after a late morning funeral at the National Cemetery. Nothing to casual. It’s on a Friday in January. Willing to go as far as Hyannis as there is a store there my husband wants to go to while we are on the cape. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have been to Sav on in Yarmouth Port on 6A, you have likely had the privilege of coming across one the best mechanics around, Zee.

Unfortunately, he past away from the big c. Thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones. Zee was a guy who always had a big smile on his face. A man of character. You will be missed sir.
