Watch out for card skimmers!
Got my card number stolen somehow. Which I only use locally on Cape. My dad sent a story about how they had found one at a Gulf gas in Cotuit during the summer. Along with some at atms on Cape. Thankfully, I noticed and locked my card before anything major was charged. But, they still got a couple thru that I've disputed.
I'm in Centerville. So anyone living in the area or working. Keep am eye on those gas pumps or pay inside. Same for atms. Also keep an eye on your accounts. As a safe practice that also saved me. I have my banks app. So I can transfer money for free between checking or savings. I keep almost all of it in savings and only transfer to checking what I need when I'm about to purchase. This prevented charges from going thru due to lack of funds because it was mostly in my savings, not checking. So for anyone with that ability, consider it. Last note, the first fraudulent charge that happened was for just a penny. I'm guessing you test to see if the card worked. So if you see a charge like that come thru that you aren't expecting, take precautions. Best wishes and hope no one else has gotten screwed.
Edit: I posted and had to delete because there was personal info in one pic. Fixed that now. Sorry for anyone who clicked on previous post before I deleted.

Comcast Price changes starting next week include bumping NESN, NBC Sports Boston to higher-priced cable tier starting next week Jan 14
CAN WE HATE COMCAST ANY MORE THAN WE ALREADY DO???
From Globe.com By Chad Finn
Subscribers to Xfinity’s basic cable television package in New England are going to need to change their game plan if they want to keep watching the Celtics and Bruins.
Comcast — Xfinity’s parent company — has reached agreements with NESN and NBC Sports Boston to move the channels from its Popular TV (or basic) package to its Ultimate TV (or premium) level of service beginning Tuesday, Jan. 14.
The shift means a $20 price bump per month in order to watch Celtics games on NBC Sports Boston, plus Bruins, Fleet, and (come spring) Red Sox games on NESN. Xfinity lists the Popular and Ultimate TV tiers at $60 and $80, respectively, but that excludes fees, including a $15 regional sports network fee.
“We’re pleased to have reached agreements with NBC Sports Boston and NESN and appreciate them working with us to continue offering their networks in a way that reflects the changing video marketplace for local sports and provides our customers with a choice,” said an Xfinity spokesperson in a statement.
The spokesperson said most of Xfinity’s customers already have the Ultimate TV package. As of the end of 2023, Comcast/Xfinity had approximately 920,000 cable subscribers in Massachusetts, down from 1.05 million in 2022, per Mass.gov.
Xfinity plans to send emails informing customers of the decision.

No RTE For Eastham, Unfortunately
Wow, wealthy, older people oppose something that would help the working class. What a shock. Remember, it's OK to "sow division" so long as it negatively impacts the working class and not the wealthy. Bunch of pricks.

Where can I get my car blessed by a priest?
I know this is probably the most common asked question on this page but I am desperate at this point. I have had car troubles ever since I can remember but its with all three cars I have had since I started driving. I fix something, everything goes great for 1-2 months, then something else comes up. I swear I have paid more in car repairs than the actual value of my car. Unfortanetly, I don't just have the money to buy a new car. I was talking with one of my patients at my job, and one woman suggested that I get my car blessed by a priest. To some it may sound silly (or not) but my father suggested this to me as well early 2024. At this point I am willing to try anything, so if you know any priests at any local church here on the cape that are willing to do this or if they have done it in the past comment below. Seriously any help is appreciated, I just feel so out of options.

PSA: Be prepared for disaster
These new fires around Los Angeles are truly unbelievable. When I see these disasters, they always bring me to thinking about being prepared. You should have a small reserve of supplies anyways like flashlight, batteries. Winter storms can knockout power as we know.
Do/buy a little bit as we head into hurricane season. Hurrican BOB was 34 years ago in 1991. Are we overdue? I do not know but in case the Atlantic is warming this could increase the chance. Hurricanes | Ready.gov
And a fire can happen at any time at home. Especially important if you have kids so they know what to do. 7 Ways To Prepare For A Home Fire | American Red Cross How to Prepare for a House Fire: 12 Steps (with Pictures)
Make sure smoke detectors and CO2 detectors are installed and working. If you are a renter these are required by law for landlord to install. The RED CROSS will install for FREE up to3 smoke alarms Home Fire Campaign | Massachusetts Region | American Red Cross
If you rent, try and have renters' insurance. Yes another cost but just in case.
If you own do a yearly check your policy is up to date.
There are many tech gadgets these days depending on your budget. A small combo battery radio, some hand crank, some solar and will charge cellphone. Portable power banks etc.

Upstairs or downstairs at Ciro & Sals?
Four of us are going for the first time and I’m wondering which level to make reservations for. Bonus points if you’ve got a favorite table.

How to not go insane during the off season on Cape Cod!
So, you've found yourself on Cape Cod during the off season...what is there to do when it's pitch black at 4:30pm in December?
Well, let's be real, compared to other urban areas, Cape Cod does not offer much to keep the year-round folks entertained, especially the younger residents. But there is still enough here to keep from going insane!
Therefor, you must broaden your horizon and be open to different things you wouldn't normally have thought of as "fun."
For example, if you asked me 5 or 10 years ago what I thought about joining a bowling league, I would have laughed it off as lame. Well, here I am, participating in a bowling league and having a blast.
In other words, you basically have to see what is on the Cape and adjust your hobbies and expectations accordingly.
This list of ideas will be purely from my experience. I am not trying to recreate Yelp, anyone can google "things to do on Cape Cod". I'm just offering my perspective as a local, hopefully this doesn't count against Rule #5 here. I will most certainly miss some awesome places or ideas, and I would ask for my fellow r/CapeCod locals to chime in!
TLDR: try different stuff than what you're used to.
Here's a quick list of things that keep me from going insane in the off season. Some of these can be weekly, monthly, daily...it's up to you!
Join a league or club: look for something you wouldn't normally think of. Lookup the local Community/Recreation Center websites for your nearby Towns. Check their schedule, you'll often find an intriguing activity every few months. For example, ice skating at Barnstable Rec, pickleball weekly games, co-ed sports, bowling leagues, book club, yoga...etc. Start with a library or Town website.
Play games! Tabletop games are a great way to connect with friends and meet new people. There are two amazing locations, Vanguard in Barnstable and Darkwater in Mashpee. Check their website, Facebook, or Discord for info on game leagues. They also have open board game nights where you can show up as a group or solo and get paired with other people to try out new games! (I'm a nerd so this is my #1 go-to)
Attend a live event: comedy show, play, cape symphony, etc...Barnstable, Wellfleet, Cotuit...etc all have great shows throughout the year! The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce is a good resource for a list of events, though be sure to still check with your local places as not everything is listed with the Chamber. Check out Improv Cape Cod, you won't be disappointed!
Several restaurants have weekly trivia night or karaoke! Even if you don't sing, go and support a friend!
Bundle up and hike. Personally, I think hiking in the off season is superior than in the summer. No bugs! There are plenty of amazing conservation areas and trails throughout the cape. Try to go somewhere new every time and work your way down/up Cape.
Volunteer. Yeah I know it sounds lame, but plenty of organizations need help year-round. Look to Town websites for volunteer events like beach cleanups, or "The Big Fix". Even if it's just once a year!
Keep an eye on museums. There are a few museums that try to stay active with seasonal events. Like the Nye Museum in Sandwich (bet you never heard of it!). For Halloween, they had a "Mystery/Unexplained" event that sold out, which involved a tour of the museum and focused on historic oddities and curiosities of old times. Check out the Audubon or Museum of Natural History for events too.
Go off Cape! Boston and Providence are only around an hour away. You should still get out and experience real civilization. My recommendation is to take the commuter rail from Kingston, or the Red Line from Quincy Adams (right at the Braintree split) into Boston. It's way cheaper than trying to find parking, and much less stressful of a commute. The MBTA system in Boston will get you close to pretty much all the good stuff.
Alot of looking for things to do involves alot of searching on your end. No one place has a list remotely close to what is out there, so you will basically have to think "hmm what types of places would host an event" and look it up to see if they have anything you find interesting.

Free Fitness Classes
Does anyone know of any fitness classes being offered free of charge? I'm looking for anything: strength, cardio, stretching, one offs, community classes, special events ect. I've been exercising at home with YT videos and I need something to help me work on my form and generally motivate me this winter.
