Daily Cyclist Thread
The Daily Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

This is what's left of a bicycle in a driveway after the LA fires rolled through.

My boyfriend got me a bike for Christmas! My first bike!
I just learned how to ride a bike 3 months ago with his grandpa’s old bike, and now I have my own! It’s incredibly comfortable, I don’t have to lean over the bike, and the seat is so big and comfy. And the basket rules

After cycling on and off my whole life, I completed my first half century today! Unfortunately my watch died 30 miles into the ride so it doesn't count.

It's very cold out there Red. Can we do it? Yes we can.
Freezing conditions in the UK this week. I didn't realise how much I hate the trainer.

Swinger bike in progress
I had two child bikes laying around, so i decided to make a swingbike out of them. The main fun, as you can see, that the frame "swings" on a fork bearing in front of the seat. I tried it, it is actually pretty easy to use, and can do some crazy tight turns, and surprising angles. (If you are crafty, look it up on YouTube, the head angle, and the "swing" angle is important to get right!) I recommend it to every thrill seeking bicyclists, it is great fun!

Was this a good deal?? 2019 Cinelli Semper
galleryPicked up my first real bike today. 2019 Cinelli Semper 59cm with Tiagra groupset and Omega FSA cranks/chainrings, TRP Spyre C disc brakes, Kovee comp saddle, and Toseek stem (don't know the wheelset).
Total was $640 from facebook. Another $200 for my LBS to tune, order new thru-axle, and put on the gatorskin tires + tubes I got.
Plan on getting new lights(looking for good rear "light bar" looking light), maybe new saddle, maybe new bar tape.
Lmk your thoughts and if this was a good deal. Also any ideal upgrades for the future. Thanks!

what 700 tire size is fastest?
i am an old man. back in my day, i rode on 700x20 tires at 125 psi because we believed narrow is faster. these days, you whipper snappers have figured out that narrow does not mean faster. so my question is..... assuming the same brand and model of tire, which 700 size is fastest? i am guessing 700x28? throw an old geezer a bone, will ya?

Helmet question for my fellow baldies
I recently bought a new helmet with much better ventilation than my previous one, but I'm worried about leaving a helmet patterned burn / tan. Should I be? I usually wear a hat for sweat but was hoping the improved ventilation would mean I didn't need to.

Needing gravel bike recommendations
Basically exactly what the title says. It’s been years since I’ve been on a bike and really like what I’ve seen and heard about gravel bikes. Have around $800 to spend and hoping someone can recommend some decent gravel bikes or point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Seeking some suggestions for trainers
As the title says I am looking for a trainer!
I am not a hardcore cyclist, but do cycle casually in the spring through fall for pleasure and moderate exercise.
Winters where I live can be long an tough, and I am wanting something in our place to allow for convenient cardio options.
Our space is very limited so rather than looking at stationary bikes it seems like trainers may be a good choice for a seasonal setup.
I have an old 1980s road bike that serves me well and that is what I intend to use with the trainer.
I'd appreciate any suggestions, and if you have questions that would help you guys make recommendations, please let me know!
Thanks!

Trainer compatible axle nut
My kids want to use their bikes (yes, they’re cheap, don’t judge) bikes on our trainers. Are there nuts out there that can swap with these to make them work on the trainer?

Which is the best country you've ridden in? And why?
I'll start... Tenerife was fun! 10x better than the UK anyway.. 😅

STAN bicycle airbag?
Has anyone heard about the Stan bicycle airbag by french startup In & Motion the recent year? They announced it about 2 years ago but last activity on social media I see is from 2023.
It's a combined head + vest airbag in a backpack. The head part appears to be quite similar to now out of business swedish Hovding (Hövding) whose company assets have been sold finally in 2024.
