Well first he denounces the alt right fairly often, he often speaks out against racist and anti semetic groups that attack him. The same groups that made him the largest target of white supremacist groups on the alt right.

[M] How do you define alt-right and what do you see specifically as bad about them? For 99% of people I feel, alt-right is bad not for clear reasons but because it’s a proxy for fascist or racist.

To claim Ben is alt-right there first has to be a clear definition of what alt-right is. Not saying those don’t exist, but I feel most people who call out others as being alt-Right aren’t focused on what the problem with it really is.

Case in point, the Ben Shapiro bot gives out some supposedly damning quotes showing why Ben is bad news, and a few of them are just him arguing we should have free market capitalism.

Which is not to say there’s no danger in pipelines, but more that for some people it’s all too easy to imagine a person is already there. Alt-right, as “bigot” is in the eye of the beholder and for some the bar is lower than others.

[M] I guess I struggle with this, because on one hand you have people who are race realist, ultra-nationalist, anti-democracy, unabashed will-to-power, our way or the high way moralists.

And then on the other hand you have:

(in the US) a right-wing ideological movement characterized by a rejection of mainstream politics and by the use of online media to disseminate provocative content, often expressing opposition to racial, religious, or gender equality.

On the surface, I feel I'm all for racial, religious, and gender equality (as well as gender expression). But I find in practice in different places, that bar can be set differently.

When it's set too high (how high is too high?) I think it can be reasonable to do some questioning. When no questioning is allowed, it seems in my mind to broaden the definition of "alt-right" to me.

Based on context, I feel "alt-right" could describe people who would want to take away all my rights personally. Yet if one squints, it could literally describe anyone who might lean right-wing.

Those aren't (or at least I hope they aren't) exactly the same thing.
