Does anybody have eyes on Don Goyo's Food Truck??

This is urgent. I need a burrito PRONTO.

Previously, he was parked at the Bend Poker Room. Circa December 2023, he moved to the Tacos El Machin restaurant. In late 2024, he was parked at Open Space Event Studios. This last location was confirmed as of ONE WEEK ago!

Reddit helped me find him last time he moved, so I'm hoping I'll get lucky again. Thank you everyone in advance

If you're burned out on the apps, maybe try Speed Dating tonight?

I'm not associated with these folks, but I did go to their last one. No matches, but it was rad meeting cool local strangers! It's like $7 bucks and the bar has NA beers, normal beers, and lots of wine.

Tin pan completely sold out for all shows??

... or is their website broken? I'm getting the "Sorry, no standalone ticket types are available for this event." message clicking through on every show from now to next week. Do they really sell out this much?

Happy New Year everyone. What could be better than browsing over a list of all of the local restaraunts that scored perfect 100's? I for sure don't know. Regardless let's get down to it!

The BEST - These are the places that scored perfect 100s. These places are really doing a good job at keeping their kitchens clean. The places that score a perfect 100 are really going all out to do things right and they deserve your support.

The WORST SCORERS: Now comes everyone's favorite part of the report - the list of Rotten Restaurants who scored worse than 85. I don't post any place that scores 85 or above even if they were the worst inspections for a particular week. 85 is a solid B and I don't want to shame them.

Country Coffee Central Oregon, Redmond, Score: 71 (12/18)

I'm going to stick these identifiers here so that when you see stuff like (mob) and (wh) you'll have some idea of what they are talking about. I'm not positive about all of these but they're probably pretty close. If you see anything I've missed or I guessed wrong please let me know.

bb - bed and breakfast?

e - fee exempt

mob - mobile

wh - warehouse

rp - recreational park

f - fixed position (a normal restaurant)

com - commissary

tf - traveler's accommodation

L - Limited Service

V - vending machines?

If you have time on your hands and want to check out the county inspection site here's the link - https://inspections.myhealthdepartment.com/or-deschutes-county

It's a very nice community resource. Kudos to the county for making it this .easy to check up on things.

Well that's it for this week. What a roaring start to the new year. I'll leave you with the obligitory bonus video and hope that you'll have a safe and satisfying week.

Walmart Bend and Spark Drivers

I do Spark, which if you don't know is Walmart's own version of Instacart, and I had an issue with a Bend Walmart employee and am checking to see if anyone else has been experiencing any problems.

I logged into Spark for the first time since before Christmas yesterday morning. I went to customer service to get the Spark bags and they said they had been moved to self checkout, I shopped the order and decided I would get them when I did the Scan and Go. I get up to Scan and Go and see the bags so I grabbed a good stack of about 10-15 bags so that way I was ready for the next order that came up. Out of nowhere, a lady I'd never seen at self checkout comes up to me and asks if I'm Spark, I said yes and showed her the Exit Pass since I'd already scanned the QR code. She taps my phone screen to see the order in full, then proceeded to rip all but 2 of the paper bags I had just grabbed out of my hand and said for the order I was doing I didn't need more than 2 bags for it.

I politely explained that customer service has always given me a good sized stack of bags so I could start shopping for the next order as soon as I got back to the store so I wouldn't have to wait in line at customer service just to get more bags, for me it's about being efficient, work smarter not harder, that sort of thing. She then snapped at me saying "Per the terms of Spark, you are only allowed the number of bags the order calls for." The app always gives an estimate of how many bags to use, so depending on how you bag the order you're shopping for you could end up using more bags or less bags. I checked all the training stuff and articles on Spark and there is nothing about a limit on bags, only where to find them and tips on how to bag orders so the lady at self checkout was in the wrong and making up her own rules or something.

Today I was talking to a friend who also does Spark and she mentioned that she had a problem with 3 Walmart employees telling her she couldn't have ANY bags for the order she was shopping for, the asset protection lady that was checking her Exit Pass asked her where her bags were so my friend told her no one at self checkout would let her have any for some reason so the AP associate went over and grabbed a handful of bags for my friend.

Have any other Spark Drivers had problems the last few days? I almost called the store to talk to a manager about the way the lady I dealt with handled the whole thing, because touching my phone and ripping bags out of my hand was just not ok, weather I'm Spark or a customer in general, but decided not to because I didn't want to run the risk of being deactivated for complaining against her.

TLDR; Bend Wamart associates are being sticklers about the Spark bags and I'm curious if it's just me or if others have experienced the same issues.

Contractor really stiffing employees

My son works for a man who told his employees they have Two weeks off during the holidays. No pay. Announced right before Christmas. Meanwhile he won’t text back his employees to let them know when work continues. Meanwhile, he’s living large with a massive home all decked out in thousands of Christmas lights. No merry Christmas to any of his employees. These are the hardest working men who have families to support. I hope they all quit on him.

Why does this subreddit still use the generic "r/" for the logo?

The circle Bend would be perfect for the logo. Or a white Subaru with googly eyes.

Stupid fog is back!

Hey everyone! It looks like the fog has returned! Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that Enviro Shuttle does rides to/from Portland for $275. I know that's not the cheapest but it's better than being stuck at PDX or RDM hoping to fly out tomorrow.

Overnight Price Hikes Across Town

I get that business need to increase prices to adjust to inflation and overhead costs, but yikes; it was feeling pretty steep today.

Anyone else feeling the squeeze?

Today: 36% increase for dog food and supplies at local pet shop, 7% for same bag of groceries I bought last week (non/sale items only), $1.60 more for the same sandwich, and % 10 for otc meds.

Changes on Greenwood

While waiting for the light to change at 3rd and Greenwood, I noticed a new record shop called Vinyl Stop (I think) next to the diving store.

But the big surprise for me was seeing City Thrift completely empty!! Anyone know if they’re moving somewhere else? Or what’s going into that big space next? It has so many rooms!

Transplant friendly?

Hey there. My wife and I have almost moved to bend like 3 times since we met 10 years ago. Currently living in an Idaho ski town and the schools here absolutely suck. Never thought we would value a good education until having kids. Every now and then we heavily consider moving to bend/surrounding communities again. How much hate do transplants get for moving to the bend area? Or is everyone a transplant at this point (lol)? Pretty much all of our friends here are transplants now and we used to live in Colorado and were amongst transplants there as well. Mostly considering the move to bend like so many other people for the the access to outdoors. We also have some friends who live in the area. But I also need to be somewhere warmer for health reasons and also now for the quality of schools.

Bring on the negative or positive vibes, I anticipate there being some hate for another yuppie family considering a move to this beautiful area. Thank you!

Airline friendly pet carrier

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m headed to Seattle on Saturday to pick up my new little girl! The airlines have really strict carrier dimensions. I have gone to every pet store in Bend looking for something compatible but cannot find anything. Alaska’s dimensions are 17” L x 11” W x 9.5”H for soft-sided carriers and 17x11x7.5 for hard-sided. I’m hoping one of you lovely Bend redditors has a compatible carrier I could borrow for a day. I’m headed up and coming back on the same day, so I could have your carrier back to you by Sunday. Thanks so much in advance!

Heads Up - Fog at RDM

Just a heads up that as of 8:27pm it’s 200 feet vertical visibility and 0.2 miles visibility. As of 8:55pm the Alaska Airlines flights from PDX and SEA are circling and a business jet just did a missed approach.

If you’ve got early flights, keep an eye on things…

9:08pm Update AS 2046 originally from SEA (4:01) diverted to PDX earlier, just tried again and is going back to SEA. AS 924 from SEA is still circling near Madras.

9:47pm Update - United 1588 from DEN circling over Millican east of Bend. AS 924 from SEA is diverting back to SEA. AS 2065 from LAX is just passing Bend.

10:45pm Update - United 1588 from DEN is diverting to PDX. AS 2065 from LAX is diverting to PDX. AS 2058 from PDX just canceled. It's not looking good for the late flights.

Tomorrow AM expect delays and cancellations.

Does anyone have experience working for Purelight Power?

Their entire interview process seems like a massive scam or scheme of some sort when their opening video compares themselves to Starbucks, Amazon, and Apple and the first step in the interview process is an "opportunity night".

Just doesn't smell right. Has anyone worked for them?
